Minorities at the extremes on here?
Carol Vorderman is a minor tv celeb, why would anyone sensible be influenced by her thoughts or politics.
Did she get the 50% positive for rear of the year?

Because of the strength of votes on the "Call an immediate general election" petition there will be a debate in Parliament on 29 January 2024.
So why sign another petition? Because it is our only method letting the government know the strength of feeling in the country.
The new petition is here: themovementforward.com/letter/
The Movement Forward are not a pro Labour group. They are anti this Tory government, pro Proportional Representation, and pro politics that support our communities.
Carol Vordman is supporting this. When you sign the petition there is an opportunity to go on their email list. If you are thinking if voting tactically in the GE this will be a safe site to check for your area (I will put others on as I come across them)
Don't forget, judging by their behaviour in the last election, the Tories are likely to setup rogue tactical voting sites. Googling "tactical voting" is likely to lead to one of these. It will be safer to check on a known safe site.

With the situation in the Middle East becoming increasingly unstable the last thing we need is an early election, or wasting parliamentary time with a debate on an unnecessary petition.
So government listening to people doesn't matter to you GrannyGravy13, unless they agree with you?
Very democratic.
It's irrelevant whether not people want to let parliament know how they feel DaisyAnnReturns. There has to be a general election this year and as far as I'm aware, parliament does not have the power to force the current government to call one sooner than they wish to do so.
A waste of parliamentary time.

I heard or read that the next election could be as late as early new year..2025’
In the latest YouGov poll on these things, Carol Vorderman polled 50% positive, 19% negative and 23% neutral JenniferEccles.
You make the mistake, a common one on here particularly among the minorities at the extremes, of believing everyone in the country shares your bias. They obviously don’t.
Too many petitions
I hope there's time for me to make up my mind before they call a general election. I was veering towards my old party, the lib-dems, but I'm pretty upset with Ed Davey now which leaves me in a quandary.

I cant see Ed Davey surviving the scandal.
He has to be toast I would have thought.
And come to that, I am getting more and more suspicious of anyone in higher power.
Celebrity, MP, anyone.
They are all beginning to alarm me.
I work voluntary organisation. I found out far far more than I wanted to, about people at the very top of it.
Opened my eyes.
I could now be biased.
But the more that comes to light about top people, the more alarmed I become.
Care to spill?
On another thread obvs 😂

Oh yippee, another pointless petition!
Anything supported by the likes of Carol Vorderman, and, doubtless Gary Lineker is going to fall flat, surely?
You’d be wrong there. Gary Lineker has a huge amount of support. People do listen to what he says - that’s why he’s so unpopular in some quarters.

It’s a bit rich for him to claim that he didn’t know what was going on when his brother was a senior partner with one of the company’s that were prosecuting the post masters.
There’s more to the above, ie, Money changing hands😡
Yes, I heard that. 😲
Ed Davey refused to meet with Alan Bates.
Then he joined the firm Herbert Smith Freehills, the firm relentlessly prosecuting the subpostmasters, on a consultancy basis after he lost his seat at the GE.
He was awarded a knighthood for his services to political and public services.
I cannot vote for the Lib Dems while he remains leader. There must be others who feel the same.
He really should resign asap and a new leader be appointed before a General Election is declared.

That'd be a no from me then.

I'd rather a planned one at some time this year than a rushed General Election in the immediate future.
The Lib Dem leader is in serious trouble at the moment for his role in the Post Office scandal (more is coming out about his attitude at the time and his refusal to apologise now) - we don't know if he will be forced to resign.
That would leave an important party of opposition vulnerable.
I agree, add to that the unstable middle east and ukraine.
There’s a GE taking place later this year anyway and that’s good enough for me.
Yes that's a good point about the lib dems.

Signed.
Showing a bit of solidarity with one's fellow 'ordinary people' doesn't come amiss..
I've signed the petition DaisyAnneReturns. Hopefully they will call the election in May to stop them doing even more damage between now and October. Enough is enough.

Smileless2012
Debating 'call an immediate general election' is a waste of parliamentary time IMO as there has to be one this year any way.
It's not about the debate Smileless2012. It's about the need for some people to ensure the government knows how they feel; just as some of you feel the need to ensure that other Gransnetters know how you feel.
The difference is that Parliament, at some point, will need and be able to take account of these voices as they have to with the debate. Or do you feel Parliament has no need to listen? I have a feeling there are a few of the mafia on the far-right in Parliament who would agree with that.
Yes, there will be one this year, I was hoping in May.
I will not be swayed by celebrities.
Who are the other people on the list (yes, I know I'm showing my ignorance here)? Whoever they are, they are just people with opinions.
Agree a waste of time and effort. It will happen this year, probably October.
I agree with Smileless total waste of time the election will be called by the Conservative Party at a time of their choosing no petitions will make any difference whatsoever.
