I don’t need to justify anything that I say on this forum. I live in the States. I will be voting. Will any of you?
I certainly will be voting.
People obviously remember what the US was like under Trump, before Biden destroyed it.

I would disagree with nanna8's belief that Trump would have zero chance in the UK, though. Boris Johnson got elected, didn't he?
The difference between Johnson and Trump is that I think Johnson had the intelligence to recognise when the game was up, though he played it as long as he thought he could get away with it.
There were burblings about 'witch-hunts', etc, but I don't believe Johnson would actually have encouraged physical violence... would he?

Sharp intake of breath!!
Actually, I don't think so.
He's too odd even for the British.
The USA is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

How can anyone vote for this dreadful man i really despair! He should be in jail. Same as those in this country who “loved” Johnson.
Totally in agreement

Good posts DrWatson. Would the Trump supporters on here care to return and tell us whether they have had second thoughts?
No, they're not good posts.
They are complete misinterpretations of what some posters are saying which is that the USA is a different country and that yes, unbelievable as it may be to some of us, Trump could win.
DrWatson
For Nanna8, Biden has got the Stock Market at incredible levels, the economy is fine again, unemployment is way down.
Under your hero Chump, who promised to help the 'American workers' (as if he'd know what one of them is), his activities actually made things WORSE in a number of industries, I recall a news show talking to several union leaders (the 2020 campaign), and they were all disappointed that Chump had actually let them down.
Given that, what was it, 5 people DIED in that attempted revolution at the Capitol, with Chump egging them on, if you support that sexist, bigoted fraud, you too have blood on your hands.
Where has nanna8 said she is a Trump supporter, DrWatson?
She said:
I think he has a real chance. Don’t underestimate his appeal and realise that whilst he would have zero chance in the UK or most other countries, the US is different
She lives in Australia but recognises that the USA is not like the rest of the world, especially in a political sense.
For UrmstonGran -- "such a huge win was not expected"?? Why write on a topic that you know so little about? For a couple of weeks before that Iowa caucus, the news reps from BBC, ITV and C4 (possibly Sky too) had all been reporting the local polls which had Trump so far ahead that everyone else had been spending their money (well, really that of gullible supporters) for nothing.
And so it proved. The Republican party (GOP for short) is in a complete mess re Trump, their saner folk know this, but can do little about it, as his fans are so gullible that they still lap up his assorted lies and blustering.
An ACTUAL election - against presumably lameduck Biden - will be a different matter, as the Dems election machine will highlight how well the economy is really doing, and topics like Trump's support for reducing Abortion rights (even criminalising it!) which have eroded some of his support from female voters. Plus of course, his various legal issues may well have caused him more serious problems by then (we can all hope), and there's that little matter of the attempted Revolution at the Capitol to remind voters about all over again. All it takes is a percentage point or two of voters to leave him in the 6 or 7 key states.
Ah well, it’s up to American voters to decide what they want in November.
Over & out on this topic now from me.
Thanks everyone for contributing!
Ug is in a small minority of pro-Trump GNetters and I am sure she knows this.
Unfortunately hardly any of the sensible GNetters who have pointed out how disastrous it would be, not only for the USA, but for the whole world, if Trump were to be re-elected, -actually have a vote.,

I think it's very odd to start a thread about a person who one must be aware that most people have a strong emotional distaste for. It's not as though Trump hasn't been extensively discussed in the past, the very recent past, indeed.
It feels like deliberate provocation.
Not at all. The Iowa result prompted my discussion is all. The exclamation mark was to show surprise - such a huge win was certainly not expected.
Thank you Gundy.
US reader chiming in… There is so much to read here, I’m halfway through.
It is exhausting living here right now because of our politics. Good Lord, it may get worse before the election is over. People and parties are dug in like never before.
But the world is recognizing that one individual is off-the-rails and increasingly becoming worse, more of a raging lunatic, dragging his followers like lemmings to the cliff.
Voters are not stupid, but some voters cling to conspiracies and party loyalty (just because they were raised that way - OR - married into it). I wish they STOP and THINK what another Trump presidency would mean‼️
Trump does not really care about you, the devotees - he only wants your money to build his racist dictatorship on day one.
He is an out-of-control sociopath ready to tear everything and everyone down.
We all know how Jonestown ended.
I am a former Republican and cannot stop this lunacy.
The exclamation mark in the thread title came across to me as provocative and goading.

I think Urms is more than capable of holding her own
that's not what worries me. It's a strategy that has proven time and time again to be counter productive.

I am beginning to feel very uncomfortable for Urmstongran with the pile on of other posters all because she has differing views.
Me too. I’m not a Trump supporter but some comment’s need challenging.
It’s difficult to empathise with a woman who is so vocal in her support of a misogynistic rapist.

Trump will win another election partly due to the contempt routinely expressed for those who vote for him. And then everyone will look around going oh woe is me how did that happen.
I see there are some Chump supporters on here, who are so gullible as to support the braggart's relentless spewing of bluster and fake news? And sympathise with that attempted revolution? Bizarre.
Find the UTube film of him on the Letterman show (2015 I think), it's so funny, he had his "love for American workers" totally exposed on the show, with his Exec clothing range shown to be made in those hotbeds of US employment, Taiwan & Banglasdesh, bumptious balloon & hypocrite meets expert comedy pin.
Maybe you're a fan of his obvious lies, as with this Stormy thing, at the start (and ALL THESE are on film, no fake news!) "never heard of her, affair? - certainly not", then (when pictures came out) "oh, yes, might have met her, but I see so many", followed by "payoff?, no absolutely not, why would I", and coming along a week or two later, "oh, OK, the lawyer paid her off, I knew nothing about it", then the (almost full circle, when told that was illegal), "oh, no, not the lawyer, I paid her off, my money, yes, that was it". So, he definitely, he himself, paid off the broad that he definitely hadn't met? Got all that? And that payment, that was for not having an affair, definitely not. Poor girl needed a new dress, & shoes, what's a guy to do?
He relentlessly babbles about "stolen election" - refuted by umpteen election officials round the US who are Republican supporters. He launched masses of legal challenges, all but 2 dismissed for lack of evidence, and those that went to the Supreme court, with a well-known Conservative majority, also got binned!
As for his voters, a shrewd guy called H L Mencken had a great quote, pre-war, said "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public".

Urmstongran I do hope you carefully read through all of these replies and then do some actual FACT CHECKING - do NOT take what Trump and his fans say…research for yourself…I think you’ll find that those things you praise Trump for doing actually didn’t…Tax cuts you mention …yes they happened but benefited the well off…not you (tho perhaps you are rich?) in which case yes they did benefit you….etc, etc, each and every point you made has been debunked. Apart from the fact that he’s a thoroughly nasty, immoral grifter, liar and rapist…Why would a woman even LIKE him let alone support him is a mystery to many. You’ve been taken in by misinformation, and a loud voice saying he will ‘fight’ for you! He won’t!

Trump 2024! Take America back.
Where to?
😁 Exactly …to 1940s Germany according to many of his rants and ‘policies’
