People obviously remember what the US was like under Trump, before Biden destroyed it.

I agree with Grantanow. How can so many millions find only Trump and Biden as candidates! But then I remember that many Americans haven't been out of state let alone abroad and their thinking is very blinkered. I recall that when Trump was last elected, a 'redneck' supporter said 'He's just like us.' No, he isn't!
I would add that many Americans do not support either contender and despair of what America has become today.

However, if Nikki Haley wins the nomination I will be happier voting for her.

Thank you Urmstongran A lone voice in the wilderness. Biden has indeed destroyed the USA. I should know. I live there.

I like trump and loved Borris 'oldbat' I think we all have a right to choose

I hope Nikki Haley becomes the challenger.

Santos is trying to move further right than Trump and there is no doubt that his supporters would vote for Trump if Trump is the Republican candidate.

However Nikki Haley, although still right wing by our standards, is actually more moderate than Trump. Surveys of her supporters have found that most of them would NOT vote for Trump should he be the Republican candidate. Whether they would vote Democrat or just abstain, this could be a deciding factor in keeping Trump out of the White House.

I fail to understand why any woman could support this appalling misogynist.

... here's a woman who wholeheartedly endorses his pussy-grabbing, with an invitation to grab hers...

And there were others.

Words fail me.

And yet she will be anti abortion.

And yet she will be anti abortion.

Of course.

And probably Christian - non denominational, like Trump, which allows them to extricate themselves from a doctrine that doesn't suit their agenda, if necessary... but does allow them to moralise according to that agenda.

I'm sure that female believes she's being wry and witty wearing that t shirt, but I think someone should point out to her that Trump prefers them young and her 'invitation' would have little appeal- except to his ego, of course.

The man is hideous. Barely literate, childish, pathologically narcissistic, and has not one iota of self awareness. He is also spiteful and vindictive, permanently angry - a veritable rage-machine.

Another Trump presidency, however, represents the greatest threat to global stability, because the fate of liberal democracy would be entrusted to a leader who attacks its fundamental principles. Trump's disdain for the rule of law, unwillingness to accept electoral defeat, and affinity for autocrats are anathema to free and open societies. How could NATO operate effectively under a US president who seeks to undermine it?

Nikki Haley is a real threat to Donald Trump
The former South Carolina governor is the only official to have served in his administration and emerged with her reputation intact.

I saw Trump arriving somewhere and struggling out of a car. I thought it was Biden! God help America.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 17-Jan-24 17:45:39

Three years younger…

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 17-Jan-24 17:43:44

X sometimes have photos of trump wearing trousers that an untrained toddler would be wearing after a difficult day. Don’t forget he’s only three younger than Biden and obviously overweight and unfit.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 17-Jan-24 17:40:49

Oh Dinahmo- too much information! I find it very difficult to look at him already, but now...

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 17-Jan-24 17:07:05

Nooooo! Everything else about him is bad enough …

Dinahmo Wed 17-Jan-24 17:05:31

Apparently he has to wear nappies - according to the Lincoln Project and smells. The mind boggles.

sodapop Wed 17-Jan-24 15:16:10

I think he actually does look unwell. The last pictures I saw of him he looked dishevelled and haggard. It was reported that he was also unsteady on his feet.

He is likely to win, we can pretend that's not likely if you want, not sure what that will achieve.

I expect he’ll win the Republican nomination. I think it’s far from guaranteed that he’ll win the presidency.

There are obviously many push and pull factors for both candidates in all US presidential elections - it isn’t always just ‘the economy, stupid’ (Biden should win if it was) or the unpopularity of the incumbent (GWB would have been toast in 2004, when even my staunchly conservative town had declared against him, if that was so). I think the key factors this time will include the climate (young voters pro-Biden, older voters split) and Biden’s approach to the current Israel conflict, which has proved, from polls and community activists I know, fairly divisive.

I am actually torn: I disapprove of Biden’s positioning on that issue, but I’m probably more scared of the damage Trump will do to and in the USA and wider. I could just say ‘a plague on both their houses’ and do nothing (I volunteer for Democrats Abroad). I doubt I will, as I know that overseas votes are influential, but I do think one of the biggest risks for Biden is that people - particularly young and Black voters - don’t turn out to vote.

Sorry, that was a bit of an essay!

And there was speculation that Putin was gravelly ill when he invaded Ukraine. I’m afraid that people like that seem to go on forever.

MaizieD Wed 17-Jan-24 09:00:08

IIRC peoplecwere saying that he looked ill all the way through his last Presidency. 4 years later and he's still with us. I suspect it's just wishful thinking.

The Devil looks after his own, I fear. Look at Rupert Murdoch 😆

Whitewavemark2 Wed 17-Jan-24 08:48:12

He will have fiddled that though, just as he fiddles everything else.

But I think the answer is no, I don’t think that they have to pass as medically fit - I have my doubts whether they have to pass as mentally fit!

Pantglas2 Wed 17-Jan-24 08:41:03

Am I the only one who thinks he actually looks very ill? I know the orange glow will cover a lot but surely he’ll have been passed as medically fit to stand? Not just by his own doctor but someone neutral.

Iam64 Wed 17-Jan-24 08:25:53

Curtaintwitcher - someone like Trump is the very last thing Britain needs. As for there being a conspiracy to keep Trump out of the White House 😵‍💫🐶😂.
Trump led the insurrection on Capital Hill. Dangerous man
