People obviously remember what the US was like under Trump, before Biden destroyed it.

DaisyAnneReturns no it was not a personal attack that’s not my modus operandi.

My post of 09.55.57 was a general observation and not directed at any particular poster.

Galaxy Sun 28-Jan-24 10:49:05

Yes none of us are in favour of those things strangely enough, we are trying to point out that describing the electorate whether its trump or brexit in this way is counter productive and absolutely pointless. But on it goes.

caknib Sun 28-Jan-24 10:46:05

rude? What a joke. It's pretty rude talking about grabbing pussy and enciting violence and promoting racial hatred.

DaisyAnneReturns Sun 28-Jan-24 10:37:17

Umm. Now, do I feel you are being the amorphous "rude" GrannyGravy? It certainly feels as if you have moved from discussing politics to personal attack .

Perhaps you would like help by telling me what I have missed or directing me to those posts. Although I should perhaps warn you I, and others, do have a life outside GN.

I am uncomfortable with posters calling the electorate of another country names along with making derogatory remarks regarding their IQ.

" ... along with making derogatory remarks regarding their IQ."

I can't find any other mention of IQ GrannyGravy could you quote it for me, please?

I think "uncomfortable" is the least we should feel when democracy is under attack.

ronib Sun 28-Jan-24 10:14:13

Does anyone else remember total shock when studying History o level to learn that Adolf Hitler came to power through legitimate means?

Galaxy Sun 28-Jan-24 10:13:53

It's generally about class in my experience Grannygravy, they view those people as 'less than'. I work alongside many people who voted Brexit, they are much more skilled in many areas than people on this thread.

DaisyAnneReturns Sun 28-Jan-24 10:06:35

I would say that generally, Trump's wealthy supporters are, as you say Maizie, more like Trump in motivation and more like the higher echelons of the Tory Party.

Like Trump and Johnson, those with wealth and the power that brings see themselves as deserving dominance over the rest of us. They feel a right to make themselves richer and more powerful than they should be in a democracy.

There are the 'users' and the 'used'.

Perhaps nanna8, you might be interested to read about Organisational Behavior. It's usually studied about the effective working of business organisations but applies equally to other areas of life. Its study prompted the "nudge unit" in our government. I can imagine Trump first learned how to use the money he inherited and a bullying nature in his various, often now failing, businesses.

You’re so wrong. There are many rich ,what you in your country would call ‘high class’or ‘upper’I don’t know the terms these days. I know some of them and they are rusted on Trump supporters. If it was what you say I would not be worried. Many very, very rich and successful people support him. They are not aspirational anything, they are.

I didn't say there weren't nanna8. I said Most of these followers and I believe that to be true of those attending the rallies.

I think the reason that some wealthy people support Trump is because, like the tory party in the UK, the Republican party is the party which gives them the most opportunities to increase their wealth. And many of them are equally as appalling as Trump. They're on the same wavelength.

Great Post Daisy. Covered up as fun or plain speaking, telling it as it is.

I once saw Farage with a crowd round him.

Furret Sun 28-Jan-24 08:33:21

I have faith that the American people will again reject Trump. It’s a pity Biden is seen as so old and doddery and I wish he would stand aside for a younger person.

We, standing outside and from a distance can see the farce that is Trump, but those die-hard worshipers, sheep, in the states don’t have this perspective. Fingers crossed there are sufficient free-thinkers, intelligent voters to avoid another disastrous Trump era.

What is puzzling is the vast amount of support Trump has. They can’t all be extremists, surely ? I think it is rude to call his supporters Fascists and ignorant , I think they must see something there that we just don’t. I still think Trump’s Trump card happens to be Biden.

Calling something "rude" means nothing. Contextualising it makes sense of your complaint.

You don't like these people to appear as what the majority today would consider cruel, callous and vengeful. That is what the words nazi or nazism conjure. However, it is plain that they thrive on these cruelty, callousness and revenge.

Those who seek what they see as their deserved dominance, such as Trump, Johnson, etc., understand their followers don't want to appear this way. So they make the cruelty feel good by turning it into a mass spectator sport or, as they once were called, "rallies". Trump uses the mob as a cover. The far-right MSM use popular subjects such as sports, sex or gossip to cover the "fun" to be had by being cruel, callous and vengeful

Most of these followers are aspirational working-class or lower middle-class: the archetypal users of cover-up words or actions. Their leaders understand this and have given them their necessary camouflage from time immemorial.

He is a really obnoxious individual who thinks he’s above the+law, and so far he has been. I have no idea how he gets away with it and why he is so popular.

*WWM2*. Maybe Trump’s followers will do crowd funding?
I don’t understand how anyone can be awarded that much money when there is no physical disability to nurse. No one was left on life support. Trump will appeal. Can he also declare himself bankrupt to avoid paying out?

No, he will have his assets seized. The jury decided on this high sum because even during the trial he continued to defame his victim and ignore court instructions. I suppose they were fed up with him thinking he was above the law. He has finally stopped his derogatory talk about the victim .

DaisyAnneReturns I don’t follow your line of reasoning. No soldier or Post Office worker is in line to receive compensation for millions and millions.

What do I need to check before posting my thoughts?

I don't understand how you can say that ronib.

Would you stop compensation going to soldiers who return with PTSD but luckily didn't receive a "physical disability"? Would you stop the Post Office compensating not just for the money lost but for the lives turned upside down, the loss of reputation, etc.

He has also already declared bankruptcy 6 times according to others and 4 according to him. That's how he gets out of the poor decisions he makes for companies he tells the local prople will make them rich. He often just leaves them jobless.

(Just interested, but why don't you check what you sre about to publish before you do so?)

I wondered about that, too.

This is from CNN...

During the trial, Carroll’s lawyers told the jury that Trump should be punished with a large number in damages so that it actually gets him to stop his defamatory behavior.

“The law says you can consider Donald Trump’s wealth as well as his malicious and spiteful continual conduct,” Carroll attorney Roberta Kaplan said. “Billions of dollars is just a drop in the bucket for Trump.”

That is a massive amount of money though.

I bet it will never get paid, as he must be bankrupt by now surely?
