People obviously remember what the US was like under Trump, before Biden destroyed it.

I am afraid on an open forum you are going to find things that you find rude or offensive, it's the nature of a forum such as this.

As long as people aren’t rude I don’t care what they call me - it isn’t my real name and I have no affinity to it - well apart from the fact it is related to my real Cornish name!

DAR - chill🙂

Well, that's set me puzzling 😁

One poster once told another poster off for calling me Calli but I don't mind.

It's better than being ignored.

I still can’t understand why anyone would think someone like trump is a worthy president of the USA.
If it wasn’t potentially so serious it would be laughable.

You may not, nor may I, but obviously millions did and may still do!

Sorry, DaisyAnneReturns, but posters have been addressing you as DAR for ages and you've never objected to it before.

It is not rude to reduce your long username to the initials of its constituent words, DAR, as the majority of people do with mine - I certainly don’t expect them to type it out in full. Report me for calling you DAR if you wish.

Why would I do that? "Rude" is what we see as rude. In the 10th century, it was different to the 15th century, which was different to the 20th century. What was polite when we were growing up may be seen as rude by younger people growing up in their world. It is also sometimes different two streets away from where you live. I don't feel comfortable with others choosing what to call me and have offered "Daisy" as an alternative, a kindness on your part. If you or others want to inflict your chosen name on me, there is nothing I can do, but I would rather you didn't.

Urms I would be interested in following a new thread covering the New Hampshire voting if you would like to start one.

I have just read in the FT that Haley will have to vastly over-perform the poll predictions to pull off a victory there. Trump is comfortably ahead, but of course things move very quickly in politics don’t they?

I have very mixed feelings about Donald Trump. Politically I agree with a lot of what he says but he continually lets himself down with his more extreme behaviour and views.

Love him or hate him, he’s a political phenomenon!

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 21-Jan-24 10:45:44

I understand, but unfortunately Trump dominates conversations about the election.

Urmstongran Sun 21-Jan-24 10:40:08

I understand GSM. However it’s not Trump per se but the USA election as a whole that I find interesting.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 21-Jan-24 09:49:16

I really don’t think we need another thread Urms. Only the few of us who are US citizens have any opportunity to influence what happens, and not many of us share your views on Trump.

silverlining48 Sun 21-Jan-24 09:39:19

Yes indeed , can only give my opinion, which is worth no more than anyone else’s.

Urmstongran Sun 21-Jan-24 09:29:38

That’s your opinion silverlining to which you are entitled and I fully respect it.

Just popped back to suggest we start a new thread on Tuesday as it’s voting in New Hampshire?

Nikki Haley is tipped to beat Trump. But will she? I’m not so sure. I think momentum is growing for Trump. (I genuinely don’t mean to irritate you all I’m just interested).

I am afraid that GSM can form a post in any way she likes as long as it doesnt break guidelines.

You seem to have changed tack DAR, and are now talking not about the electorate but about those MPs who support the Rwanda Bill. MPs of all hues have supported the Bill, not only Conservatives.

Germanshepherdsmum I don't see what your difficulty is in understanding that talking about those who have supported this government is going to include talking about what they are supporting.

Thank you to those who corrected the picture of who voted for the Rwanda Bill.

Can I just add that in my sub-culture it is considered "rude" (a word with a meaning as changeable as a chameleon but it always relates to time, place and culture) to call someone by a name they haven't offered you. I hadn't realised how much it happens on here - I have been guilty myself in the past, assuming if others are doing it, it's okay with the owner. The name I offer on here is DaisyAnneReturns, not DAR although Daisy would be fine. Culturally, I would consider using a name you have not been offered ("you" plural, you are not the only one) to be coercive; someone attempting to show power. I have seen it happen a lot with sales teams in an attempt to make a relationship something it isn't. Just saying smile

tRump is the worst thing that has happened to the US in as far back as I can remember.

Thanks for posting that Norah. Very interesting.

The independents being former Tory MPs who have lost the whip. Even the DUP abstained.

Perhaps GSM is depending on the 4 Independents who voted 'aye' to prove her case?

It's nanna8's turn in the barrel today!!
😂
I expect she's gone to sleep now 😴

Oh, the power of misinterpretation of people's words. Poor nanna8.

Still, at least she probably has sunshine, no biting cold wind and the threat of torrential rain..

I'm not sure where she is but there is torrential rain, floods, landslides and crocodiles in the floodwaters in parts of Australia.
A barrel could be a good idea.
