King Charles - Benign Prostate Enlargement

King Charles will go into hospital next week for treatment for prostate enlargement.
So impressed he's made his condition public, raising awareness of men's health issues is so important.

Encouraging men to consult their GP when they have prostate problems has to be a good thing. The King can't help the problems with the NHS, so no point in trying to somehow belittle him. Millions are poured.into the health service, some of which is mismanaged. Health has become so complex and collossally expensive that it's become a bottomless purse. No one wants anyone to die and I doubt Labour will manage to do much better.

While the rich and Royals can bypass the NHS the Tories won't bother to fund it properly. Their attitude to the proles is 'they can wait; they can queue; they can die.' it's all very well Charles being commendably open about his prostate but if there's a long waiting list it doesn't make much difference.

If the RF were dethroned tomorrow, they would still be extremely wealthy and pay for private medicine as the majority of wealthy people do. So getting iffy about them going private is really rather irrelevant! I wish the King and the Princess well and hope they both recover quickly. My DH has the same procedure as the King many years ago and it was a big improvement, so the King will be fine.

Good bloke Charles, with him from day one when he was banging on about sustainability, the climate and the work of The Prince's Trust. So much derision in the press, it was awful.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Your Majesty!

Making it public is good but how many more men will be on the long, long, getting longer waiting list for treatment and how many will have turned to cancer or died whilst waiting
Everything’s fine if you re born with a silver spoon
But I wish him well and think he’s done the right thing to speak out previous generations wouldn’t have
Perhaps he can go one step further and make some speeches about helping the NHS and give the government (HIS government) a kick up the a…

There is no evidence that men with benign prostate enlargement are at a higher risk of prostate cancer than those without the condition. (Source NHS)

He’s definitely a role model, he even took time to respond to my letter

BlueBelle Thu 18-Jan-24 07:30:49

No it won’t change Nana8 but that doesn’t make it right does it?

nanna8 Thu 18-Jan-24 07:27:35

It’s the same the world over . If you can pay , you get in sooner. Not fair but that’s life I suppose. I doubt it will ever change.

Good that it’s made public. Must have been noticed if he was popping to the loo every 20 minutes. His manservant in waiting or whatever they’re called, will have been kept busy.

A friend of ours has had the same diagnosis and has been waiting for almost two years fort an operation

When my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer, the consultant told us that almost all men will have a problem with their prostate at some point, though not necessarily cancer. I'm glad the King has made his condition public. My husband was unconcerned about the examination. Although, it wasn't nice, he wanted to live. I would say to men don't die of embarrassment. As well as my husband, my brother-in-law has prostate cancer and another brother-in-law has problems due to an enlarged prostate.

Good luck to him. I can only imagine what that examination is like for men. Apparently it's no picnic. Agree a good think yo highlight getting one's prostate checked.

Much easier than the examinations we women have to go through to give birth.

I won't post my prediction 😂

Haha. It is probably the same as mine grin

Good for men that the King made his condition public. Wishing him well.

Ziplok Wed 17-Jan-24 18:23:56

I wish him well.
I don’t begrudge him having private treatment. If I could afford it, and needed treatment, I’d go privately too.

LovesBach Wed 17-Jan-24 18:18:41

If he had waited for an NHS surgery slot, someone would be one place further down the queue... I don't have private medicine these days, but don't grudge anyone who can pay - they have made their contributions to the NHS as well.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 17-Jan-24 18:11:46

Fingers crossed all goes well for HM

Of course a King should get priority treatment - we couldn't do without him...hmm !

There is always one.

Not being flippant, but don't things come in 3s? We should brace ourselves for another important Royal story.

That thought crossed my mind as well.
