Is there a logistical reason food and drink could not be supplied by Allied aeroplanes and parachutes dropping these by airlift to Gaza?

^Hamas abiding by the law^

Glorianny really…

The Geneva Convention prohibits the taking of hostages. Hostage taking is a war crime.

The rules on holding military personnel says they can be held until the end of hostilities GG13 . That's what Hamas wanted to do.
Try to stop judging every situation with prejudice.
POWs can be held until conflict ends.

Feminists are only supported by Glorianny if they’re the right kind of feminists. Much like the right kind of Jews

I always wonder about this. I find it rather strange when people speak about the right kind of Jews. I know many Jews who have been thrown out of the Labour party for being the wrong kind.
Naomi Wimborne -Idrissi talks about this and support for Palestine www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjhHhL_15Nw

As for the right kind of feminist if yours is the kind which is willing to personally insult someone because you disagree with their views you are welcome to it. I've always preferred proper discussion myself.

It does sound as though you’re dismissing the rights of military personnel to be treated properly - we all know women are at greater risk, especially military women

Of course all combatants should be treated properly. But when civilians are involved they should take precedent. The regulations which govern the treatment of prisoners of war which combatants become when they are captured says they can be held until hostilities cease. So Hamas were abiding by that law. Had Israel declared a ceasefire of course then they would have had to be released.
There is no such regulation regarding the holding of civilians who Hamas were ready to release during a temporary ceasefire.

I don't know why my post was deleted.

It was very innocuous compared to so many contentious posts on here which verge on anti-semitic.

Obviously it touched a nerve.

Someone has got their finger hovering on the report button…

^If women become combatants should they expect special treatment?^

Fewer than 4% of Israeli women soldiers are in combatant positions.

Why would you try to diminish the role of women?
They were recognised for their bravery on 7/10
Seven Israeli tank crew members from the Caracal battalion fought against Hamas terrorists[51] on October 7, 2023, continuously for 17 hours straight. 20-year-old tankers Hagar, Hila, Tal Sara, Michal, Karni, Ophir and Tamar fought against hundreds of terrorists equipped with Rocket-propelled grenades.[52] According to the IDF, the young women were the first ever female tank crews in the West to engage in active combat, lasting for 17 hours.[51] Having received an order to move out from the border with Egypt, they moved north near the border with the Gaza Strip.[51] They allegedly killed 50 militants
Women are fighting as soldiers, Should they then be treated as civilians?

Callistemon21 Thu 15-Feb-24 19:22:28

Every country in the world is a party to the Third Geneva Convention, which also confers a special mandate on the ICRC, entrusting it with a central role in the protection of the dignity and well-being of PoWs

Your disdain and disregard for women who don’t fit your world view is hard to take. So because women are in the military it doesn’t matter if their risk is higher

No disdain for women. Simply a belief in equality. If women soldiers are combatants why should they be preferred over civilians? Particularly older and less able civilians. Who is more likely to die from an injury or to succumb to starvation or thirst, a healthy young woman or an elderly man?

Can Hamas be believed ?

Glorianny Thu 15-Feb-24 18:45:20

No matter how many Palestinians are killed Hamas will not be destroyed, You cannot kill ideas. If you were a young Palestinian now, watching as your friends, family were killed and maimed would you be wanting peace with Israel? Or would you be biding your time waiting for a chance to join Hamas. If not now in a few months or years time.
This whole concept that you can kill terrorism by mass slaughter (whatever means you use ) is simply untrue.

Glorianny Thu 15-Feb-24 18:40:14

Oreo

The Israelis wanted the women out first rather than the older people or men as they knew that hamas can’t be trusted anywhere near a woman or girl.

But Israel has women soldiers. One of the unwritten rules of combat is that civilians are released first. Hamas said the women they still held were soldiers and that they wished to release old and infirm civilians first.
If women become combatants should they expect special treatment?

Cossy Thu 15-Feb-24 18:21:38

The whole situation is just bloody awful and nothing other than a complete ceasefire will resolve. How many more innocents, on both sides, need to die before this point hits home with both sides!

Iam64 Thu 15-Feb-24 18:07:58

Of course it can’t Annie, but we can bet someone will say the Israelis created Hamas
