Situated in Stuttgart - Brexit defeated them.

Which is very peevish as it is a site I use.

BTW - read in a retail type news magazine that the big German brands are facing cutbacks and several are struggling.

Have you tried Country Collection and House of Bruar?

House of Bruar had terrible customer service recently and no apology.
Terrible shoe mess for my husband. Had to buy elsewhere after originally ordering with a month to spare. All very difficult as they were so slow all the time and he needed them gor a wedding.
Will not use them again.

Maybe that’s why I ve never heard of them I don’t buy classics and don’t have the money for expensive clothes but never heard anyone mention the name

Same here 😄

Used to like some things from Joules, but they’re only online now.
I often buy nice things I see when I’m abroad.
This year I’ve bought a lovely cotton cardigan in Greece, mittens and socks in Norway, and a nice tee shirt and two scarves in New Zealand. I nearly bought a really nice casual zip up hoodie in NZ too, but they didn’t have my size 😕

I’m more of a White Stuff or Monsoon type of girl. Buy almost all my underwear from M+S, and my pjs and most of my dressing gowns too. Also buy M+S’s pull up jegging/jeans from there because they fit well and are comfy.

Posted too soon -
Opened 140 years ago and still owned by the Fenwick Family.

The original Fenwicks is still going strong on Northumberland Street in Newcastle.

I've never heard of them either. I didn't realise Fenwicks was still in business either. Our local Fenwicks closed before lock down. I do miss it.

I love Peter Hahn , but then I'm an old fashioned girl , who
sometimes wears twinsets with pearls .
I bought my last twinset from the US and it was expensive .

Yes wwm, the quality was always good and I have clothes that I bought from them years ago, still going strong. Always worth paying more for quality. Cost per wear is so much better than buying fast fashion. My best black coat (not from PH) was very expensive upwards of 20 years ago but is still in great condition and is still being sold - but for a great deal more.

Fenwicks still sell online, or did last Christmas - I bought a few presents from them.

NotSpaghetti Fri 09-Feb-24 17:58:16

I'm another who didn't have a catalogue.

NotSpaghetti Fri 09-Feb-24 17:57:54

I used them too.
Lovely items and great returns if they weren't quite right.

Joseann Fri 09-Feb-24 17:56:33

Noooo! 😥

Fenwicks in New Bond Street has some of the labels like Basler and others.
But I've a horrible feeling that shop is closing too? Need to check.

Yes Fenwicks is gone - there will be nothing left!

I’m not sure about being too pricy - the quality meant that I’ve had a number of clothes for donkeys years. I always buy classic clothes and keep them for ever, so the price spread over the years I have them is very small.

I agree about the quality.
(I was just mindful of the criticism I and others have experienced on here if you say you spend a lot on your clothes!)

I've bought from them. Very good labels. They operate from down here in Devon.
I think they were maybe too pricey for the UK market.

Oldbat1 Fri 09-Feb-24 17:15:58

Never heard of this person or company.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 09-Feb-24 17:08:58

Yes, me too. I have always liked German clothes. My husband used to buy German suits years ago, very well made.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Feb-24 17:07:18

I liked Basler and a couple of other German companies - I shall see if I can get them another way.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 09-Feb-24 16:38:18

I ordered online too, after finding something I liked in the catalogue. I particularly liked their jeans - hey ho, I rarely buy clothes anyway but will throw away those few torn out pages I had been pondering on … a few £££ saved!
