Who’s to say that Labour won’t raise the money? I think GEs have become much more expensive with the presidential style debates which have been conducted of late, and if expats are able to vote there will be a cost attached to getting information to them.

So we are to perpetuate a two party system, when so many voters would like to support smaller parties?

We have a bi-election next week and have been inundated with literature from the Conservatives. Never had so much and were just saying this morning it must be costing them a fortune!

I too am in a bi-election area and am getting a bit tired of picking up literature off the mat now!

I am also a bit cross because I have had a few night time visits after dark from canvassers (one just 20 minutes ago.) I am not sure how I managed to stay polite. Why go out after dark on a saturday night canvassing?

I think Labour may have already stolen a march, I notice that Keir Starmer is already doing a YouTube channel, which is sponsored. That will probably reach more people than leafleting and TV adverts these days, and more cheaply.

We don't have a by-election but we're getting stuff telling us how well our relatively new Lib Dem MP is doing. All good for the recycling bin.

Last time we had a local election, we had leaflets every day and canvassers at the door from Labour. Goodness knows how much it all cost.

Most people voted for the local candidate who would work hard for those in his ward concerned about local issues.

It wasn't the Labour candidate.

I think that cuts all ways to be fair. I am in what had previously been a Lib Dem constituency, which was being contested by the Tories, and just out of interest I saved up all the stuff from both parties shoved through my door. In the three months before the election I had 43 flyers, it was quite ridiculous. It’s where seats are the most closely contested that the parties go to town I think, and I’m not convinced it makes any difference at all to the way people vote.

I just get annoyed and say "All those trees!!"
Although they could be printed on recycled paper of course, and they're always so colourful and glossy.

I had a lovely chat with the interesting Labour canvasser, but unfortunately he wasn't the candidate.

That’s a good point Callistemon, they should print them on non glossy paper - or preferably not not at all, in my constituency at least because judging by all the comments on the community pages most people do feel it’s a waste of paper.
