The biggest surprise in the by elections is that Reform UK trounced the Lib Dem’s!

The Lib Dems were 4th place in both by elections yesterday. Unless they input Ed Davey’s lib dem votes into a Horizon computer? Not seen much of him these days have we? I think he’s toxic for the party.

Moving on. Tory say if you vote Reform UK we are handing the keys to No.10 to Keir Starmer. Well as far as I can see that’s a given now anyway so I’m happy to vote Reform UK at the GE.

They need a boost though. More membership money or donations. Farage joining in some centre stage capacity would definitely boost their ratings.

Meanwhile the Lib Dems must be in turmoil. “We need to talk about Ed” …

PS there was very little conjecture in the article.

I'm still waiting to be told what the 'outright lie' was.

Sorry MD I've been in and out of hospital, and because, I was looking for more uplifting or positive threads or articles to keep my spirits up, I gave this one a swerve smile

To be honest, I didn't realize I was on a time limit for answering or answering at all?confused.

I think it's always wise to consider that we all have lives filled with all kinds of good and not so good time consuming incidents, and not everyone turns tail when asked a direct questioned.

Now that you have my attention I'm surprised that you didn't do a bit of a deeper dive on the items listed in the article your self, if only to counter my claim?

The lie was the repeating of a lie turned into a oft repeated slur against CO.

To be fair, that website is known for mis quoting and over emotional left leaning rhetoric or according to one critic 'telling people what they want to hear without many facts'
A more concise way of putting it is 'preaching to the converted'.

I hope you can excuse my bluntness, no doubt I will have more patience when things have improved.

Hope your having a better day than I am smile.

Well done Gordon Brown!

Maremia Mon 19-Feb-24 15:52:14

Some voters are looking at the stats, to figure out who is most likely to beat the Tories, holding their noses and voting tactically.

petra Mon 19-Feb-24 15:28:41

Gordon Brown gave the ok for our flag to be flown.
Up until 2007 our flag could only be flown on public buildings 18 days a year 😡
Thanks to Gordon 👏👏👏 it is now flown on all public buildings 365 days a year 👍

You just keep on voting for flag waving grifters, funded by dubious overseas donors.....then we will get rid of the Tories. Thank you 😊

How very sad that waving a flag is associated by some with grifting and right wing groups.

Please, anyone who loves their country, start to reclaim the flags, however you vote.
National flags are not a matter of shame as anyone from another country will tell you!

I agree Calistemon, I am angered by the grabbing of the Union flag by the right wing of politics, rather similar to the accusations of being unpatriotic which was thrown about on GN at those of us who voted to remain in the EU. It also has to be said that (to my mind anyway), that many of the out there figures of the right, people like Farage, Tice, come across as conmen and have all the trustworthiness of a second hand car dealer (with apologies to anyone in the car trade). This is a purely personal opinion

Casdon Mon 19-Feb-24 12:37:43

That’s not what the polls currently say *Nicenanny3, although of course things might change before the election.

My personal opinion is that many voters in the original Red Wall constituencies that switched to Conservative will now vote Reform. Obviously Reform is not going to win the election but hopefully a few seats, it's a new party, small acorns eventually grow into oak trees. It's hard to break the two party stronghold.

I’d encourage right wingers to vote Reform, because I’m totally in favour of wasted votes that will weaken the Tory vote, and lose them more seats whilst not giving Reform any either. Years in the doldrums ‘finding themselves’ is exactly what the Tories deserve after 14 years of treating the electorate as they have.

Afraid I , and possibly others will not vote for who you say. My vote is mine, no-one else's.

Many will though Freya8. It’s one of the biggest fears the government has regarding the next election.

Is the Reform party a break off party from the Conservatives? I hadn’t heard of it. Not sure what they believe in. I assume they were connected with Farage ?

They do have a manifesto, easily found by asking uncle Google.

No, they are not connected to the Conservative Party nanna8, they are the offspring of the Brexit Party. I’m struggling to see why there’s such a fuss about them really, they are polling in no higher numbers than the Brexit Party did. Maybe some of the disenfranchised right will vote for them at the next general election, but I can’t see them making any significant impact myself.

As Reform don’t yet have an MP in the house, who did vote against a bill to have the rules tightened on nefariousness ways of donating to parties.
It wasn’t Reform, was it 🤔

I read it,too and am puzzled by the comment that it contained an ‘outright lie’. It seemed very low key and factual to me, with no particular opinions put forward.

I've just read the Byline Times article which seems to me to be accurate having read most of the information elsewhere.

Short of removing the non dom status from the press owners who of course were pro Brexit because of the EU clamping down on tax havens I don't see what could be done about foreigners funding the right wing think tanks.

Under our undemocratic FPTP system, informed voters weigh up the situation in their constituency and in most places there are only two parties in contention.

Therefore many votes are cast against the party you dislike the most, rather than positively for the party you support.

If I had been living in either of the constituencies which just had by-elections, I would have seen that the choice was between Labour and Conservative. Although I support the Liberal Democrats, I would have voted Labour, because it is high time we kick out the corrupt, incompetent Tories.

Many well informed supporters of the LibDems or Greens would do the same. This is tactical voting.

Nope. I would tell you why not, but i honestly cannot be bothered, I am too busy looking for Brexit benefits.

Vote Reform

Grantanow Sat 17-Feb-24 09:46:22

I once voted Lib Dem and then they ratted on me and joined the Tories. Wholly untrustworthy. Never again.

This labour voter would never vote lib dem. I did it once for complex reasons grin, never again.

Same here Galaxy. Life long Labour voter here from a Labour voting family and I voted Lib Dem once, just like you for complex reasons. Learnt my lesson well and truly.
