Just reported. Only 47. RIP.

Would probably have evidence …

silverlining48 Mon 19-Feb-24 08:13:00

They are unlikely to return his body because it would have evidence of poisoning.

Sparklefizz Sun 18-Feb-24 20:48:04

I was horrified to see a woman who was laying flowers for Navalny when some police officers came up behind her and forced her head face down into a snow drift and hold it there for a few seconds. Grrr.

The Russians haven’t got the common decency to give his family back his body. They (Putin) are beyond evil.

eazybee Sun 18-Feb-24 09:20:09

I agree with you, TwiceAsNice, but I also think if he had fled abroad he would have been pursued and poisoned. What a dreadful admission that Putin is able to do this with impunity.

TwiceAsNice Sun 18-Feb-24 09:10:56

Very sad indeed very brave man . Why are we surprised Putin is truly evil . I wish he had stayed abroad and campaigned from another country he must have known he would be killed. RIP

Good plan NanKate.

Maremia

'Yes' NanKate, and 'Yes' petra.

Security conference with all the other nodding heads.

maddyone Sat 17-Feb-24 23:56:12

What’s happening in Munich Petra?

Maremia Sat 17-Feb-24 21:36:33

'Yes' NanKate, and 'Yes' petra.

petra Sat 17-Feb-24 21:30:59

I see they’re all virtual signalling in Munich. Well put your money where your mouth is: Ukraine!!!! 🇺🇦

I doubt there will be a funeral. His body won’t be released and I suspect he’s already been cremated.

Greenfinch Sat 17-Feb-24 21:21:08

That’s a lovely idea NanKate. We don’t have many passers by so I think I will light a candle in my main room.

NanKate Sat 17-Feb-24 20:15:45

On the day of his funeral (when his body has been located !) I will put a photo of him in my front window with some flowers. Perhaps others may like to do something similar in memory of a very brave man. 💐

That's terrible silverlining48
I can't imagine what that's like on top of everything else.

silverlining48 Sat 17-Feb-24 18:19:52

Wherever tyrants rule, it takes great courage to stand against them.

Romola Sat 17-Feb-24 18:17:53

Another assassination by the Putin regime. Alexei decided to martyr himself by returning to Russia. Eventually, it is to be hoped, he will be recognised as a,secular saint in his own country.
Meanwhile, I have a feeling of dread in respect of the geopolitical situation and find myself wondering if this was how people felt in the late 1930s.

silverlining48 Sat 17-Feb-24 18:17:22

His poor mother has travelled to the prison to see her son’s body, but unsurprisingly it’s not there. No doubt it will be cremated befire anyone can do a post mortem. .

So very sad. The Russians who openly mourn him are being very brave too.

And being arrested by the brutal thugs which are the police.

sodapop Sat 17-Feb-24 14:19:16

All the Russian people seen paying their respects are brave too, they will be watched.
I agree GSM about the cremation that will be the next thing we hear no doubt.

The next thing we will hear will be that he’s been cremated. I wouldn’t be surprised if that has already happened.

Exactly my words to DH... I really can't see them giving up his body.

AGAA4 Sat 17-Feb-24 13:55:19

I do fear for his wife who has denounced Putin and his regime to the world. She is a very brave woman.

Witzend Sat 17-Feb-24 13:53:31

Aveline

It is a good suggestion Witzend. Maybe you could knit one?

I wouldn’t waste any yarn on that evil man. A bit of leftover uncooked pastry, however - the bits that would usually go out for the birds….

Iam64 Sat 17-Feb-24 13:50:22

I’ve read that older Russians are more likely to support Putin, younger people to mistrust him. It must be so scary and dangerous to actively oppose him
