SB - “When it comes to anti Semitism, I have felt for a long time that there’s a double standard. Racism that would be called out if it were directed against any other minority is explained away or ignored when it comes to Jews. The Jewish community is our community…..”
Not forgetting that SB is a Buddhist .
It’s wrong to say Zionist but not Muslim
Why the hell are they bothered about a ceasefire? It has nothing to do with us

Why is proud Zionist uncalled for?

She did it in a very tense situation and to publicly say her husband is a proud zionist is shocking while Israel is mudering innocents.
I am not anti semitic I am and have been for a long time anti Israeli government, with good reasons.I march FOR Palestine with many people who are Jews who are also incensed by Israels behaviourpaddyann You said if she wants to convert she should keep it private. You can't back pedal from that comment. It is antisemitic since you obviously have no problem with your First Minister not keeping his (non Jewish) faith private.
No, we should not be ashamed of our faith. She should not hide it.
However, it was the announcement that her husband is a "proud Zionist" that was really uncalled for.

The SNP are justifying fuming. They’re never treated equally. The Speaker was at fault - let’s see how he feels now. He did all this with good intentions but the SNP never get a good deal.
They do do fuming very well though.
Giving in to Hamas would be like giving in to Putin.
Mmmmm, sounds like double standards to me.

I’m sure many, if not most Jews want it to end, but I suspect they want the release of the hostages first.

Presumably paddyann thinks Humza Yousef should have kept this declaration of his faith and private life private too. Or is it only Jews that need to hide their faith?

Everything crossed that the Israeli Knesset will agree the terms of a ceasefire being negotiated in Paris.
Oh, yes please.... can't cross any more than fingers but am willing them to see sense.

As far as I remember, there has been one MP killed by an Islamic extremist, one by a neo-Nazi, and several by Irish nationalists. There is also a large amount of abuse and harassment, including threats of rape and murder, aimed predominantly at female MPs. For instance, Diane Abbott, who has suffered hideous online abuse for years, is now too scared to use public transport because of the threats. An old man was prosecuted for threatening to murder Nicola Sturgeon. I believe he said he would decapitate her. Those are two examples from an avalanche of hatred fuelled by misogyny and, in many cases, racism. In many cases, judging by the sexist and racist content, the people behind the threats are white men.
It's hardly a problem confined to Islamic zealots.
I feel totally betrayed by all our politicians. To hear that they feel threatened where there is a large muslim population - well who let them in to our county in the first place? I can't imagine going to somewhere like Saudi Arabia & threatening their politicians - I'd be thrown in prison or worse.
It's time we took a long hard look at what's happening in our country & made some hardline changes. Otherwise we'll all be afraid to speak our minds at all.
What is happening in the middle east is horrifying, of course, but we could be next. Wake up Britain ( I won't call it great because it no longer is

Good post with many good points Annie1.
It takes a lot of courage for a politician to admit that they made a mistake ( not that I think he did, though). If only more politicians were so honest.
Aha, now I understand, thank you Callistrmon. I think he probably was the one, but I’d never heard him called that before.
Because I am still in bed most of the day I read every post and think this has been an excellent debate. One thing we are not talking about here: HOSTAGES. I honestly believe if Hamas released every hostage and the world demands a ceasefire then Netanyahu would be forced to stop. I wish people would pressure both parties to this. Re my views on Islam. All immigrants come to this country to look for a better life. In return they need to know that our laws and way of life are built on Judaic Christian principles and incomers must accept our way of life. Strangely I was an immigrant to Australia and it was made perfectly clear to us in a compulsory 6 week camp that we must accept the Australian way of life and not be a whinging Pom. Anyone who could not accept their way of life could leave. Imagine living in a country town with a Liverpool, accent? The other kids fell about laughing at my way of speech. Even now people ask me what part of Australia I am from!!! Can someone write about the Palestinians? I watched a programme which showed some of the justified Palestinian grievances. I saw that the men did not have beards and the women leaders did not cover their heads or wear Islamic dress. I know there are many Christian Palestinians (Bethlehem and all the celebration of the birth of Christ. ) I do not want to conflate their cause with my objection to Islam ….feminisn and all that.
BTW, I am very sympathetic to Lindsay Hoyle. I think he is a great Speaker who was genuinely trying to protect MPs. I hope my party comes to its senses and gives him full support. He is human, he made a mistake. Leave him in the chair.

I’m clearly uniformed here but please can somebody tell me what 30p Lee means?
I know who is being referred to but I don’t understand the 30p.
Wasn't he the MP who said you could make a family meal with 30p? Something like that, as he went off to eat his taxpayer subsidised restaurant meal (perhaps with subsidised wine) in the H of C.
Gruel, anyone?
