Bring Shamima Begum Home!

Yesterday I saw a film of the women and their children in a camp in Syria. Apart from two British women there were Canadians, Germans and an Australian woman. It seemed many were too scared to show their faces.
The film horrified me. Their little children are innocent. They have nothing. Then today in The Spectator I read an article which claimed we had no right constitutionally to strip Ms Begum of her citizenship and looking at a camp full of non Syrians living in appalling conditions I have changed my mind. These women all made a dreadful mistake but they are human and if an old traditionalist like William Rees Mog can speak up on Ms Begum’s plight, I realised I have felt uncomfortable purely as a woman that we should bring her home and deal with her. Do any other Grans feel uneasy on behalf of these women? Can she never be forgiven?

Absolutely not let her rot
Unfazed seeing severed heads in her bin FO

Leave her where she is. The selfless humanitarians who were beheaded by her bloodthirsty heroes of ISIS cannot return home.

valdavi Wed 28-Feb-24 19:54:16

I would be happy for her to be allowed back for all the reasons stated by OP & others & the vast amount of legal expenses spent on keeping her there in limbo could be better spent on antiterrorist surveillance here in the UK

I’m of the same mind as Iam; The Court made its decision based on information we don’t have. I accept the decision.

However, I am very uneasy about this and would feel more confident in my position if we had information about the threat posed by bringing SB back to the UK. Sadly I no longer have blind trust in government institutions.

Do ISIS show their victims compassion ?
I saw a documentary where she was being interviewed about her views and she was saying all the ‘right’ things, but a body language expert was studying her face and body movements which were showing she was lying through her teeth. What a surprise, she just wants to get back to the UK for an easy life and then she can start producing the next generation of ISIS.

larraine Wed 28-Feb-24 19:16:49

Please let's show her Compassion

yrhengastan62 Wed 28-Feb-24 18:27:34

She chose, there are consequences to the decisions we are all free to take. This wasn't just stealing sweets from the shop. The sooner younger people realise and understand the consequences the better. Leave her there and anyone else in similar circumstances.

albertina Wed 28-Feb-24 18:14:11

While I disagree with Spuddy's wording, I do agree with the sentiment behind it. You would be surprised to know what girls and women like SB get up to. We need to keep our country safe. SAFE

yellowfox Wed 28-Feb-24 18:03:35

NO! NO! NO!

Callistemon21 Wed 28-Feb-24 18:02:21

Typo, sorry. Begum

Callistemon21 Wed 28-Feb-24 18:01:13

Yazidi women and children were sold as slaves time and again by ISIS.

According to a Yazidi woman who was sold as a sex slave at the age of 13, and later escaped, Shamima Begum was friends with a slave dealer who sold girls into a life of sexual servitude, including Dila’s own sister, who has never been found since.

According to the report Dila was kidnaped, sold, raped and kept by ISIS for seven years from the age of 13.

North Press Agency. March 2023

It took the UK government 9 years to acknowledge the atrocities committed against the Yazidis by Bregum and her ilk.

Absolutely. I fully approve of what you’re saying. I’ve been often accused of being soft for a military wife (he’s retired now) but I cannot abide this girl/ woman. They want to give 16 year olds the vote so a 15 year old is more than capable of telling right from wrong

Desiree1153 Wed 28-Feb-24 17:48:51

Hi. Dutch here. He’s still in a Syrian camp too apparently. We don’t want her either. She’s from Bangladeshi parents but if she goes there she would be killed for being a member of a terrorist organisation, I read

Fflaurie Wed 28-Feb-24 17:47:53

There has to be a deterrent for would be terrorists. Treason needs to be punished for the greater good. She has to stay there now.

JuBut Wed 28-Feb-24 17:18:33

And I totally agree and support what Dr Watson has said.
I'm getting very sick of 'wokes' and wish more stood up like you smile

JuBut Wed 28-Feb-24 17:16:42

I don't want her back in this country!!! My grandson is only 5, I don't want anyone being able to train others to radicalise him and his friends in the future. She did that and I don't believe she shows ANY remorse!

DrWatson Wed 28-Feb-24 17:06:15

For Jane, Anniel, BlueBelle and Mumofbadboys (& girls?), please - ENOUGH of that emotive twaddle about "only a child".

Dictionary definition of 'child' is 'young human being below the age of puberty'. She was what, 15 when she gathered 2 friends and absconded some 2,000 miles to the Turkey/Syria border, such oh-so-typical rebellious teenager behaviour?!!

There within days she'd thrown herself under the first of three 'husbands' to start knocking out kids as presumably ISIL has an eye on future recruiting issues? Her own father, referring to her appeals to return, has pointed out that she has never actually said she's sorry. And he should know?

She's widely reported as having been an ISIL 'enforcer', also that she helped sew bombs into suicide vests - oddly enough, she didn't don one herself? I seem to recall one of her i'views in which she described ISIL's liking for hacking off innocent heads as "unfortunate", which I suppose is true, especially for the victim, of which she doubtless witnessed quite a few.

Various courts and terrorism experts have found that she should NOT be coming back, all probably better informed than Jacob Rees-Mogg, her surprise new-found supporter (a low bar I know). Also I daresay that if any of the 'bleeding hearts' on here actually asked the Kurds, Yazidis, or assorted innocent Syrian & Iraqi Muslims who suffered mass genocide at the bloody hands of this wretch and her repulsive friends, they'd likely suggest that THEY would be pleased to give her a home, six feet under an unmarked patch of sand?

If anyone on here really wants her back, then YOU sign up to have her at YOUR house, if YOU are so convinced she's all OK now. That way, if she has an ISIL flashback and decides to hack off somebody's head one night, you'll be the first to know. Or perhaps JRM would do the honours? Maybe make sure to have the neighbours check on you every day?

She made her bed, now she must ly in it.

Camille333 Wed 28-Feb-24 16:59:05

What 15 year old girl joins a bloodthirsty group ,feels nothing for severed heads in buckets, leaves her family and is oblivious to violence.Im fed up with do-gooders putting us all of us at risk and putting us last .The time for sympathy has been and gone. These people have no sympathy or allegiance to our country,we have to change and protect ourselves.

Sharmeena Begum (born 1999) is a jihadi bride who left the United Kingdom to join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in December 2014. Two months later, in February 2015, her school friends Amira Abase, Shamima Begum, and Kadiza Sultana (who collectively became known as the Bethnal Green trio) joined her in occupied Syria. Begum is one of the youngest British teenagers to join ISIL.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of this young woman, we have allowed males back into country who left to fight with ISIS, surely this is double standards?

No, double standards do not apply here
Some people even claim that Begum would be treated more leniently if she were white – overlooking the fact that the Government also removed the citizenship of Jack Letts, aka “Jihadi Jack”, for joining Islamic State. Letts is white, middle class and from Oxford
Still, never mind. Defending Begum makes some people feel good about themselves, and that’s all that really matters.
Caring, tolerant , forgiving and suitably amnesiac about the Manchester bombing or hostages beheaded on video.

Labadi0747 Wed 28-Feb-24 16:42:44

Sorry. Leave her there !!

Nanatoone Wed 28-Feb-24 16:42:23

No thanks, most of us don’t want her here, she doesn’t belong here at all. I think some people on this forum are very naive if they think she represents no danger to us, far from it I’d say.

Can't agree more! I did read if she was allowed back it would open the doors for many others. All to live at public expense, who would employ them!

She is where she should be and hopefully in time she wil be tried by the Governemtn of Syria and EXECUTED as a Terrorist. ISIS tried to take over Syria and Iraq. They lost and now the losers wil have to pay the penalty for their crimes and that INcludes Begum.

Well said!
