Blake told her parents (both doctors) of her trans ID when she was 12. Treatment at the Tavistock started when he was 17 but so far, I haven’t seen the detail.
I’m not suggesting all trans people have mh problems but we shouldn’t forget that some do.

One of the columnists in the Guardian has resigned after 20 years writing for them as she was outraged that poor reporting in said newspaper did not (at first) mention ‘transgender’ - just ‘woman’. The next day the newspaper did report the crime as by ‘transgender’but it was deep within the article apparently where the deviant kept being referred to as ‘she’.

Crass nonsense. PC would gone mad. Do they take us for fools?

Apparently yes, they try to. In the name of ‘inclusivity, divergence’ etc I suppose. Honestly these days it reminds me of The Emperor’s New Clothes.

I find Scarlett Blake’s crimes loathsome. But I believe trans women are women, and her crimes don’t detract from that.

He’s a male. Male crimes should be recorded as male crimes, however the perpetrator chooses to identify and whatever they believe.

He's a male with the strength to carry out such a heinous crime.
Obviously not a woman and not identifying as a cat at the time.

Totally agree Calli. I think crimes should be reported according to ‘sex at birth’ not the fashionable ‘gender choice’.

Even if Blake had undergone some kind of therapy (we are not informed if or what), he had gone through male puberty.

He also perpetrated a vile murder of a cat. Very, very cruel.

Surely the point here are the crimes this person committed, not what they identify as, one doesn’t have to have physically “transitioned” to be able to call themself male or female.

Too much is being made of this persons gender, they committed appalling crimes and should be punished accordingly. I don’t care if they go to a male or female prison, just that they are locked away for a very very long time.

We can denigrate transgenders all we like, but I hope this awful case doesn’t result in even more discrimination towards transgender people and the LQBT+ community.

I think the point Cossy, is which type of prison this person is in. There are no mixed prisons and no trans prisons, so the choice for the authorities is binary.

No-one is denigrating ^transgenders (sic) at all.

In fact, this man's actions do transgender people a great disservice.

Of course it is important that this crime should not be statistically counted as a crime by a female. It was a vicious, sexually motivated murder of a young man which required a great deal strength.

And of course he should not be incarcerated in a women's prison.

There has to be a re-consideration - a separate grouping for transgender individuals? Or does "inclusivity" mean that we have to ignore facts?

If Blake has gone through male puberty - he's a man identifying as a woman. And that does not make him a woman.

You may not care whether he goes to a male or female prison, but I guarantee most of the female prisoners and their families will not want them to have to be housed alongside this male monster. Those who don't expect themselves or their friends and families to be imprisoned often show a distinct lack of care about the safety and dignity of female prisoners.

Oh and if we are talking about discrimination, I think it is deeply discriminatory to some of the most vulnerable women in our society (on the whole crimes committed by females are very different to Male crimes) to place a man in a female prison. . I hope those who pretend that sex does not matter dont cause further discrimination towards women.

Cossy, I disagree that too much is being made. How can it be right to have newspapers (including the daily Mail) referring to this individual as female? Reports of the trial referred to the person on trial as she. Men commit many more violent or sexual offences than women. Distorting the stats has implications for our prisons and CJS.

I get where you are all coming from, however I’m still more concerned that this person is appropriately punished and locked away for the safety of us all irrespective of how they identify. I do take your very valid points though. Given the crime, whether they are in a male ir female prison he will be on a wing with prisoners having committed similar violent crimes. Whole story is just horrific!

Regardless of whether he has still got his 'bits and pieces' he remains male. A man who loses his genitalia in an accident for example doesn't magically become a woman. Born male, you'll die male no matter what happens in the intervening years.

It's also a lie. I dont want a society based on lies. I view those who take part in it in exactly the way I view Johnson.

Our women’s prisons are largely full of desperately sad women with awful histories of abuse and exploitation. Most of them don’t need to be incarcerated ‘to keep us safe’. They shouldn’t have to live alongside men like Scarlet

They have created a wing or more somewhere, not sure which estate it is housed in.
I do think people arent aware of the fundamental difference between Male and female offending, particularly sexual offending.
