It’s just been announced, Prince Harry has lost his appeal to have armed security provided when he is in Britain.
I’m not surprised.

Mollygo Wed 28-Feb-24 22:58:31

However even you can't dispute that he is probably more at risk than any other Royal.

Even me? What exactly do you mean by that? 🤔

Why is Harry at more risk than any other Royal? Do you have inside information?

Looking forward to their answers to that Callistemon21.

Desdemona

When he visited the UK recently didn't the British Police escort him to and from the airport?

He hasn't lost the right to security altogether if he comes here.

His security level has been downgraded and he would receive security appropriate to the occasion.

Callistemon Now Harry needs protecting from a posse of Gransnetters grin

Perhaps you could do what Glorianny and VS haven't done despite being asked Syracute and give just one example of hate that's been expressed on this thread.

Comments like this are pretty hateful

I do wonder if the ill health suffered by some members of the Royal family have been exacerbated due to stress caused by some of the things Harry has written about. As has just been pointed out on Sky News he did write about how many people he’d killed when he was in the army and also, as Rosie just pointed out, he now chooses to live in a country where every other person carries a gun. I used to be very fond of Harry, mainly because of some unpublicised charity work he did locally but I find his behaviour these days to be very distasteful.

Happy to see that Harry lost this case, this is not hatred, but just don’t want his bodyguards running around with guns in our soil. If it means he doesn’t come here it’s no loss. Is that hatred? I don’t think so, I do however, dislike backstabbing people.

I agree, Maybee

Mostly, I find it all very sad.

If elected, Trump is coming for he and Meghan, and not in a good way.

I really doubt it. Trump is just posturing.

Harry was granted his US visa by the Trump administration.

Other royals have gun protection and I suppose that is ok for you ?

Callistemon21 Wed 28-Feb-24 23:18:49

No, we certainly don't want private security people let loose in the UK. This is not the States.

The downgrade was appropriate and that is why the appeal was rejected.

nanna8 Wed 28-Feb-24 23:19:30

He’s no longer a royal, though. By his own choice.

Callistemon21 Wed 28-Feb-24 23:21:14

No longer a working royal.

Cold Wed 28-Feb-24 23:26:27

Glorianny

Callistemon21

He wants to pay for it himself but for his security to be able to be armed, as those protecting other members of the RF are

Not allowed here, it is against the law for bodyguards to carry any weapons.

Although it may well be legal in the USA.

No-one hates them, as you keep trying to assert, Glorianny, although they may dislike what they do and be weary of their shenanigans.

Of course they don't Callistemon21 .grin

As I said he will probably fly in and out of the UK occasionally, but Meghan and the children will not. Why would they? They are protected in the US. Here they would not be.
Seems a bit hard on the kids and on Charles, who probably won't see his grandkids (mind I'm not sure he'll be that bothered, he's not really affectionate is he?)

The Sussex family will get police protection if they come to the UK for royal family purposes and engagements. As we saw at the Coronation and Harry's recent UK trip. But they won't get taxpayer funded protection for private engagements such as filming for Netflix.

Even Princess Anne doesn't get full time protection despite the kidnapping attempt where 3 people were shot.

Honestly if they didn't tip off the press to get papped they would get a lot less attention. William, Kate and the children manage to go about their private lives without being photographed at airports etc

nanna8 Wed 28-Feb-24 23:27:40

Good point! As regards the guns, if anyone here in the police uses one there is a huge investigation so I am sure they wouldn’t unless it was really necessary. Not like the USA and I would think the UK would be similar.

What's hateful about asking some one to give an example of hate because the two already asked to do so haven't VS?

Yes it's fine for the specially trained British firearms police officers to provide security for working British royals. They are not for sale outside the working Royal family.

But British taxpayers do not want to provide round the clock security in California to the treacherous Prince.

Callistemon21 Wed 28-Feb-24 23:29:57

Cold everyone seems to think they have lost protection completely.
As you have said, and I have said more than once, the level of protection was downgraded, not withdrawn completely.

Callistemon21 Wed 28-Feb-24 23:31:13

Yes, of course it is. No-one would argue with that.

It is still possible for someone to acquire a gun illegally . A person with a vendetta can access a gun. The sort of aggressive views spouted here come from the tabloids that whip up this hate and you only need one unbalanced individual to create a dangerous situation . It’s totally understandable for Harry to be concerned for himself and his family .

What makes you think anyone in the UK is a "person with a vendetta" against Harry, his wife or children. Acquiring a gun illegally in the UK isn't as easy as walking into Walmart and legally buying one, and even an "unbalanced individual" would find it tough. Guns are not the problem for the UK like the USA. The UK doesn't have mass shootings. After the mass shooting at the school in Dunblane gun control in the UK was tightened to an unprecedented level. There hasn't been a school shooting in the UK since that tragedy in 1996, in that time span the USA has had lots.

Prince Harry lost his appeal as far as I am concerned with the Oprah interview.

grin

He used to be an endearing young chap, a bit dumb but full of life. He kept the dumb bit, unfortunately.

I was more annoyed when it was said that being denied the security he wants, may make it difficult for him to be close to his family maddy. Oh that will be the family he constantly berates for money!!!

His family hardly ever come here, usually just him making court appearances to which he seems addicted to.In constantly shouting about his security he makes himself a target.

Bonnybanko Thu 29-Feb-24 05:21:26

Harassing people over several comments when they were neither talking to you or about you is not ok

You should know that

VioletSky Thu 29-Feb-24 07:43:44

Especially when people aren't here 24/7 to answer such demands
