Tragic to hear this 45y old was found dead at his parents Cotswold out building on Sunday with a gun by his body. Such a shock to read this I had been assuming a heart attack or similar.

Condolences to all his family.
RIP Mr. Kingston.

Very sad but no one knows what goes on behind closed doors or in people's minds.

Many of us envy those in the upper classes, but one of the drawbacks is the expectations which people have of you. Sometimes you just can't live up to those expectations. I'm not saying that this is what happened in this case, but having wealth and status doesn't guarantee success.
The saddest thing about this is the publicity. Bad enough to lose a loved one in this way without it being so public.

When I first read that Thomas Kingston had died I thought how tragic to die at such a young age and a heart attack came to mind .
On reading that he'd taken his own life - I was shocked .

I've known two men , who committed suicide and both of them well educated , accomplished and relatively privileged coming from well heeled middle class backgrounds .
I'd seen both of them the day before and it shook me to the core .
One thing that they both shared : they cared deeply about other people and felt powerless to help them despite being in caring professions .

We don't know how Thomas really felt about life and what finally tipped him over the edge .
I pray for his wife and family .
RIP Thomas .

Thanks for that link, lemsip.
I wasn't sure who he was, or any of the background.

Terrible tragic, poor man.
It doesn't bear thinking about, finding your own child like that.

Very tragic, and in his parents own garden too, how they must be feeling☹️

So terribly sad.

I worked with a man who took his own life.
He was only early 40’s & left a wife & 2 young boys.

I wish we could do more for people suffering so much that they think death is the only answer. It’s so sad.

I thought it was very brave of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent to attend the memorial service. They must have been shell shocked!

Such a tragic story. I feel so sorry for his wife and family.

Unfortunately they will have the added burden of the carrion crow press speculating endlessly on why. Every word and action will be dissected and have judgement pronounced on them.

At least on gransnet we are offering only sympathy and compassion.

R.I.P. - prayers for his devastated family.

Poor man, to be in such a dark place that taking his own life was the only way. Very sad times for those who loved him.

For the family, it’s a particularly shocking way to do it.

Kingston once worked as a hostage negotiator in Iraq. Known as Tom, he read economic history at the University of Bristol before joining the diplomatic missions unit at the Foreign Office.

He was seconded to Baghdad as project manager for the International Centre for Reconciliation, based at Coventry Cathedral, in 2003. The following year, he cheated death in a suicide bombing in the Iraqi capital that killed 22 people.

a devastating tragedy for his wife and parents.

I recall reading on a news site after this happened one of his friends said what a wonderful man he was, although you didn't always know what he was thinking.
Maybe that's it, he was thinking awful things and not sharing it with anyone who could help him.
Maybe his time in Iraq took a terrible toll on him - we will probably never know why hid did it. So sad.

TerriBull Fri 01-Mar-24 16:04:38

This was very sad to read, they both looked so happy in the recent pictures, but of course no one can possibly know what inner turmoil an individual disguises. So sorry that he couldn't overcome his demons, and for his family and wife dealing with such heartbreak. .

Cabbie21 Fri 01-Mar-24 16:04:32

So very sad for all the family.
