Cossy, apologies if I seemed to minimise the seriousness of a hysterectomy y - that wasn’t my intention.

Rosie nobody said it was an insult to take your husbands name.

Oh no need to apologise Iam64, but thank you flowers

Can we believe it? Could it be a body double? After all, it will be the first time a member of the royal family has been dishonest?

The behaviour of the press towards the Princess of Wales recently has been shocking. Some information has been given and a time limit set for her return but they have persisted in attempting to provoke speculation and are clearly haunting her neighbourhood in the hope of a photograph. They are just as disgusting as the paparazzi who contributed to Diana's death.

And she is not 'Princess Kate' and Diana was never 'Princess Diana'; both are/were Catherine/Diana, The Princess of Wales.

I had a hysterectomy some years ago and both the surgeon and the oncologist insisted on 12 weeks recovery as they wanted to be sure that I was fully fit before having radio/chemotherapy.

a sign that gransnet is flagging when people find a thread thats been still for a couple of days and open with more repetitive posting! leave it alone.

I didn't realise there was a time limit set on posts to comment?
I also don't think it's repetitive if each poster wishes to talk about their personal experiences of surgery.

Callistemon21 Thu 07-Mar-24 10:53:24

Having a hysterectomy could have psychological repercussions too, and you might need more recovery time if your job is public-facing. More especially if the eyes of the world are on you, scrutinising your every word, move, your appearance.
If that is what the surgery was.
Whatever it was, she obviously needs time to recover without intrusion.

I’m still known by the name my parents registered me when I was born. It’s no insult to refer to women this way

Maybe if they referred to her as her registered birth name Catherine Middleton it would be different. She has expressed her preference for Catherine and yet this is apparently not to be respected.
I assume you make yourself known by your birth name, not have it imposed upon you. I'm known by my married surname, my choice, I've gone by that longer than by my birth surname. It's not an insult to voluntarily take your husband's surname in preference to your father's.

good to hear you’re recovering well ronib.
Catherine hasn’t had a simple hysterectomy though has she. She’s had some kind of major surgery involving her abdomen and I’d suggest more. Women are home 24 hours after hysterectomy and don’t need 14/13 nights hospital care. Whatever she’s going through it’s clearly significant.

I’m not sure if you have had a hysterectomy (I’ve had a radical one). Despite it being very common and routine surgery it IS major surgery.

Though I had mine privately and was only in for two nights, I had to be re-admitted within a few days due to excessive bleeding.

Would you rather you hadn't started it?

I'm sure Gransnet will remove it for you if you've had second thoughts.

The Daily Fail have been printing scurrilous articles about the lady they call ‘Kate Middleton’ since the Waity Katy days.

surprised you read the daily fail as you call it.

Iam64. Quite rightly we have not had detailed information on Princess Kate’s operation but I would not like anyone to equate an unknown abdominal operation with huge problems surrounding a hysterectomy. Just saying …. The future is here - my £1.5 million robot seems to have made my recovery relatively straightforward given my age.Although I am seriously miffed about a huge ovarian cyst……

To be fair, the thread is only 2 days old and it might be the first that some who use this site have viewed it.

Why is Catherine still being called Kate Middleton?

The modern age, not always kind or generous, or respectful to people, can you imagine our late Queen being called anything other the Princess Elizabeth.
Why do people also think that its OK to shorten people's given names, I can't remember Princess Diana being called Di Spencer, ugh.
Manners cost nothing. Then again it is an American rag.

She was very frequently referred to as Lady Di in the press and by the general public.

So stupid, how many woman have to carry out walk abouts when returning to work, she is not returning to public duty,

lixy Thu 07-Mar-24 08:29:32

I hope she is properly well before she has to return to work.

Anniebach Thu 07-Mar-24 08:17:07

Most women do not have to face crowds , handshakes, smles .

I am 75 years old and had major abdominal surgery a week ago today. I am able to walk between 6 and 8,000 steps daily on days 5 and 6. The recovery time is 6 weeks and walking is highly recommended but no lifting of heavy weights or housework.
Of course, royalty will have timely access to medical care and help with the chores.
My point is that for most women recovering from a hysterectomy, the recovery process is 6 weeks and please don’t be afraid. Some young women say they are fine after 3 weeks.

It really doesn’t look like her in the picture, though.
