Princess of Wales has cancer

I’ve now watched Catherine’s statement. What dignity, warmth and emotional intelligence she continues to show, even at this most difficult time.
As with other posters, my children and grandchildren are similar ages to Catherine, her husband and children. So young to be dealing with such difficult issues, and with pressure from the media. In their friendship group, they also have friends in cancer treatment. Again, young, fit, healthy people with unexpected devastating diagnosis.

I really don't see why it is necessary to carp on about anything other than PW illness or perhaps our own family and friends who have also suffered similarly, on this thread.

However, let’s not pretend this is not a business with every resource imaginable. It should’ve been handled in a much better way. The palace/ PR really let Catherine down. They are the reason there is so much scrutiny.

It’s not a criticism of Catherine to say so.

I’m sure there are none who will not wish them all well.
I think social media is a lot to blame, and the palace PR folk will have limited experience of dealing with it, so maybe they’re not totally culpable.
I’m wondering if they were hoping that there would not be any need to make her illness public, but their hand was forced by social media.
(And, yes, I know it’s speculation like this to blame)

You must surely see that the palace were managing a hugely difficult situation in terms of sensitive and confidential information. The objective of protecting the children has clearly been central to their strategy. There have been so many keyboard warriors who feel they have superior knowledge of a situation of which they know nothing.

I have asked for my title to be amended although chemo is chemo whether it has already started or is about to start. Genuine mistake for which I apologise.

I am sure we all wish that the chemo goes well for Kate.

Even my DH who takes no interest in the RF was shocked by this news and we both know how difficult it was to break my cancer diagnosis to our AC and family.

And Catherine's children are so young. She must be so frightened. I so hope the damn gutter press will just leave them all alone....and if they don't then please, if you buy their rotten papers which will be full of insincere sympathy, just stop.

I send good wishes to everyone suffering from this dreadful disease. Today I took my sister who has recently been told that cancer has spread, and her oncologist told her of the next steps.

I thought it was harsh too but hey ho. I was on my Ipad as the news came through and I thought Kate said she was starting chemo soon which is what I posted.

I can’t see that it matters too much whether she has just started chemo or is soon to start it but as it seems to have upset OldFrill I have asked for the title to be amended.

A very brave girl - she is roughly the age of our children. How sad for William and the little ones - and ofcourse for her parents and siblings.

Shocking and worrying news. I thought Kate’s statement was very brave. Hopefully her treatment will be successful and not too gruelling.

And poor William having to deal with both his wife and his father being so ill as well as caring for their children.

A very dignified and upbeat statement from the Princess of Wales and very supportive of other cancer patients too. Let’s hope the cancer has been caught in the early stages and she will be restored to full health soon. A real example to us all. So sad too.

Summerlove rubbish, all that happened to a photo taken and issued in the same way as official photagraphs are, is that it was titivated and tidied before issue. This has been being done to official photos like this since photography was invented.

I have a portrait photo here at home of my sister(2) and I(4), taken when I had lost my 2 front teeth in an accident. In the portrait I have all my teeth.

Exactly my thoughts.

A younger friend (50) had major abdominal surgery in November and, just like Kate, had to wait until she was well enough to start chemo.

She had full hysterectomy, part of bowel removed, appendix removed etc and was in hospital for about the same time.

She has to have 8 x 4 hour chemo sessions and has to travel over 100 miles to get this done. She is very positive now and starting to go for short walks on some days.

I sincerely hope the Princess makes a full recovery soon.

This is what happens if you put people in this position, forgetting the rights and wrongs of a royal family it's just deeply problematic for the people within it.

I was very shocked and saddened to hear this. As someone who has had cancer I know how she must be feeling.
