The matter of Angela Rayner's house sale isn't going away.....

Angela Rayner is now to be investigated for breaking electoral law. It seems she has said that she married, and then lived in her ex council house for the next four years, while her husband lived in his nearby ex council house with her brother. Neighbours at her address said that her brother lived in her house alone, and that he referred to her as his landlady. This issue seems to be getting bigger by the day - surely electoral rolls show where people are registered to vote, and this should clarify the matter.

Very sad, however, the present chancellor of the exchequer managed to dodge a hefty sum of stamp duty a few years ago and the conservatives seemed to have brushed that under their somewhat threadbare carpet methinks...Just saying.

Im sure if it was a possible law breaking matter, the police would have, and maybe did, investigate the matter. Wouldn't you say.
Think Rayner has tried very hard to sweep this under the carpet, wouldn't you say ??

And mine. I expect ALL of us really.

Well put, Casdon. My sentiments exactly.

^I agree David Lammy was out of order^

Nice that we can concur occasionally Casdon. You’re not a hopeless case after all.
(Joke!)

I want honest politicians, it’s as simple as that. I’m fed up to the back teeth with rumours, backstabbing, lying, covering peoples backs inappropriately and to be frank, all that crap.

I will say no more

I can dream Casdon! Yes just speculating as one does on a Friday tea time up North….
😁

Also … listen to Mr Lammy, that pinnacle of intellectual genius. As he explained, as Rayner is in Opposition not Government, she is not judged by the same moral criteria. Don’t you just love it?
Just hilarious!

Similar to the fantasies we all have in our idle moments then - but I tend not to fantasise about politicians, they aren’t attractive enough.
I agree David Lammy was out of order. I want the people in charge to have no skeletons in their closets, I don’t care which party they represent in that respect.

Ah but I wasn’t fantasising either Casdon I said I was speculating.
😁

Thing is with Angela Rayner she has repeatedly called out anybody who she believes has not acted honestly. She does it all the time, usually yelling that she wants them to resign.

But when it comes to her own allegedly dodgy dealings it’s a different matter. 😝

I'm not rubbing my hands in glee - I would like to see reasonably honest politicians who don't try to circumnavigate the system for their own ends, and behave as if they are above the law. If Labour win the election , which looks likely, I won't take any pleasure in knowing that dishonest people are involved in running the country. The Government represent us on the world stage - known cheats, crooks and liars are hardly likely to enhance our status.

I haven't been following the story in any detail. Which laws has Rayner allegedly broken?

Me neither so I have no idea what she allegedly did.

Must take more interest.

I wish Andy Burnham would replace Keir.

Are you aware of his role in the North Staffs hospital horror.
He didn’t exactly cover himself in glory.

Some of us never forget the Mid -Staffs hospital scandal.
There are still unacceptable practices going on there and poor care.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 12-Apr-24 16:46:01

If Rayner is found guilty of whatever it is she is accused of I hope that she is immediately sacked, as we can’t possibly have another government as bad as the last one.

Labour has to be the government of the highest standards.

Have you got a hotline to Labour HQ Urmstongran, or are you fantasising? Seriously, Andy Burnham is not going to be Keir Starmer’s replacement, I bet you.

Quite honestly, I would have thought being leader of the Labour Party and/or PM is the last thing Burnham would want. He seems happy enough where he is (can't say I blame him).

Quite. He’s king of his own empire now.

Casdon Fri 12-Apr-24 16:34:41

There are at least four camps on this thread though zakouma66
1 People from the right who want to bring her down
2 People from the left who think this is a trumped up charge by the right
3 People who want to know what has happened if anything and think she should be vilified or exonerated based on the evidence.
4 People who don’t really care either way but like a chat about what’s happening.

growstuff Fri 12-Apr-24 16:32:40

I'm a bit hazy about electoral law. Do candidates have to state the address where they live? If so, my MP is in big trouble.

MissAdventure Fri 12-Apr-24 16:31:29

I'd certainly keep everyone speculating, if I was her.
Just for the sheer pleasure of knowing I was telling the truth (if I was)

How horrible we have all become. Rubbing our collective hands in glee at this.
I know very little about her but the fact that she did ,at one time, actually work for a living is a start.

Why hasn’t she even shown it to Starmer, given all the fuss? Don’t you think that someone in her position, accused of criminal offences, should do that? Starmer could then say he’d seen it and believes all was in order. If the advice exists, of course …

One of her former neighbours, interviewed by the press, called her ‘a f***ing liar’. We shall see.

Casdon Fri 12-Apr-24 16:20:17

It’s very strange that she refuses to publish the tax advice she claims to have received, and that Starmer says he hasn’t seen it.

Why? No doubt she’ll disclose it to the police, which is as it should be.
