I heaved a sigh of relief that most of Iran's drones and missiles had been brought down without reaching Israel and it seems little damage has been done, but it seems that is not the end of it. So, what do you think is going on? Does Israel need to have a full scale war with Iran and what do you think it would achieve or is this really about keeping Netanyahu's right wing govt on side?

With its iron dome weaponry which Israel has to protect itself all drones and missiles were dealt with before they even reached Israeli territory. No deaths reported and just one, unlucky person injured.
It would be a tragedy and travesty if this incident in response to the previous Israel bombing which did kill people, was used by Israel to begin an even wider war.
So this country could stop the war started by Hamas , or could make it easier for Hamas to attack Israel

If this country stopped supplying 0.02% arms to Israel peace
would descend? The percentage may be small the goods we supply are vital to keep Israeli aircraft flying.
There's a poem about how a war is lost because of a horse shoe nail. Small pieces of essential equipment matter.
Absolutely small components keep the Israeli Air Force in the air, which was a good thing considering the bombardment from Iran over the weekend.
300 + drones and ballistic missiles.

We supply arms to Israel that's why it's more of an issue. When these threads about this war started, children were not starving, they are now. How many of you have started threads about children starving in other parts of the world? If not,why not? If these things matter to you why keep quiet or are you just trying to derail this thread?

It is reported that 729,000 children in Sudan are currently suffering severe malnutrition with over 100,000 suffering from medical complications and 98,000 likely to die.
Where’s the thread about these children?Sudan is Africa, nobody cares, it’s been written off, China exploits it and does nothing to stop the corruption and continual fighting between tribal warlords.
The current fighting in Sudan isn't between tribal warlords, but it is a civil war, so doesn't depend on other countries to supply arms or support one side or the other.
The war in Sudan is between the government and a group of dissident Arab tribes that call themselves the RSF. For some time the government had been arming the them as quasi mercenaries to fight rebels in other areas.
Because the RSF had been linked with many atrocities,
attempts were made to integrate them into the Sudanese army, but they rebelled against the government
Not quite true. Hemedti, the leader of the RSF, is hardly a tribal warlord. He's one of the richest people in Sudan and was for a time a member of the government.
Most of the population of what is now Sudan is Arab, so it's not an ethnic struggle. It's more a power struggle between the two men who staged the 2019 coup. The Sudanese people themselves aren't that much involved. After years of poor government and sanctions, the economy is in a bad way and the current instability is making things worse.
My son-in-law's cousin was attacked badly in the street in Khartoum last year for no reason, but usually the violence is between opposing forces and the general public who are unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the the wrong time.
Countries such as Egypt and Eritrea have tried to broker a peace deal, but any western involvement would be useless and possible make matters worse. Even Israel offered to hold peace negotiations.
It was a response to not letting aid get through and wanting a cease fire. Saying "this is setting a boundary. In practice most arms come from the US.

The previous thread of Palastine, speaking of the IRA didn’t derail that thread

Is there a thread on starvation in Sudan?
Or a protest march?
These other issues are important - very different specific issues on each one - need new threads? I don't see realistically how one discussion can encompass Ukraine, Sudan, Uigurs as well?
I’m sure you’re right Katie.

Yes Maddy it’s obvious, yesterday we were told the accurate number given for Gaza isn’t important no matter Hamas gives the number

If humans are the cause regardless of faith why do we have
numerous threads on Israel but so little on Ukraine ?
Annie I have asked that question before. No satisfactory answer was forthcoming.

No Annie, they have civil war there.
Are you saying that because Jewish people are ‘the cause’ of Palestinian food shortages and that is why there is so much anti feeling on here and elsewhere?
I have certainly thought that myself, despite denials.
If starving children is a cause for the world to be outraged, then since the situation is far worse in Sudan, I would have thought we would have seen weekly protests in London and several threads on Gransnet saying wrong it is that this is happening. But no, we don’t! So clearly starving children in Sudan is not a problem for many people, nor starvation elsewhere in the world. The cause of the hunger In Palestine and everything that has happened there is seen as caused by the Jews, although I would say it has been caused by Hamas and Iran, who have funded Hamas.

Are Jews the cause ?
Humans are the cause! Humans cause all problems irrespective of their faith, colour or nationality!

There wouldn’t be a problem if Gaza became an independent state, if they stopped attacking Israel but that’s not on the agenda, certainly not on Hamas agenda. The West Bank had to be taken over because Jordan could not control the attacks on Israel.
Israel won’t allow Gaza to become independent, Hamas became what they are partially due to them being a vile terrorist organisation and party due to the Israeli govt.
Both innocent Jews and Palestinians have suffered and been murdered across decades.
Are Jews the cause ?
