Does Israel want full scale war in the Middle East?

There wouldn’t be a problem if Gaza became an independent state, if they stopped attacking Israel but that’s not on the agenda, certainly not on Hamas agenda. The West Bank had to be taken over because Jordan could not control the attacks on Israel.

In posts above most people have been very very careful to say that its Israeli Government decisions not every Israeli citizen has wanted what is happening. I cannot see why we do not give Palestinian citizens the same thoughtfulness - a variety of views.

For me the big question is: how can we reach peace when the issue of annexation remains?

In Gaza nobody dare speak out against Hamas they control everything including the media, Gazans elected a monster who simply murdered the opposition. They are quite content to see tens of thousands of their own civilians killed as human shields to achieve the destruction of Israel.

Wars, civil wars, terrorism, diversion of aid, lack of will etc. all causes of hunger and famine.

Totally agree. Hamas is Gaza. Here’s a solution that only a simpleton like myself could suggest…” release the illegally seized hostages taken to provoke a war..resurrect all the Jewish children burned in ovens and decapitated…..resuscitate the women raped repeatedly until their pelvis ruptured.. maintain a ceasefire without continuing to send rockets into Israel. Then the Jews can forget about those 1300 butchered outside a declared war status quo just as they forgot about the 6 million butchered in places like Auschwitz. I have never been adversely affected nor do I personally know anyone affected by criminal or terrorist actions. Jews are not intrinsically violent. If only it were true of those who crusade to murder what they call “the infidels”

The famine in Gaza has been created by Hamas, instead of stockpiling weapons and building tunnels they could have developed food production and welfare. But it suited their purpose to create hardship, famine and suffering on their population, Hamas is Gaza.

Seems as if Israel gets its way ,like with the UN resolutions and the current genocide being visited on Palestinians then they will get away with anything the want..for they read Netanyahu and his government .Pushing the boundaries as far as they are allowed to .After bombing the embassy what will their next target be? Buckle up its going to be a very bumpy ride Russia will side with Iran and anyone with nukes can find themselves a target .WW111 looks a possibility unless someone clips Israels wings

Perhaps Katie re famines its not that Gaza gets too much but others not enough? The famine is part of a discussion where world-wide conflict is possible and the fate of the Palestinian peoples part of it.

I think the 800,000 is the population of Gaza City. Gaza has one of the highest fertility rates in the world. The official population in 2010 was 1.6 million, but it's increased since then.

Do we realise quite how lucky we are. As I sit here on a comfy chair, food in the cupboard, roof on the house, holidays to look forward to, trips out for lunch somewhere nice, meeting friends; it’s got it’s faults of course, but in the scheme of things we do have comparatively safe and comfortable lives and when I see what goes on in this often cruel world I thank my lucky stars.

Well said and my dear DH and I often ponder on this and despite going through some really awful times, we thank our blessings!

I think the population figure has always been just over 2 million people. Forty per cent of those are children.

There will never be peace until we are not just feeding starving people but people have the means to work, feed, clothe themselves and so on. The infrastructure is now so poor after bombing this is a massive proposition.

There will be plenty of work rebuilding Gaza, I’m sure all the critics of Israel will be queueing up to help poor Hamas if Israel does not drive them out.
