Does Israel want full scale war in the Middle East?

I heaved a sigh of relief that most of Iran's drones and missiles had been brought down without reaching Israel and it seems little damage has been done, but it seems that is not the end of it. So, what do you think is going on? Does Israel need to have a full scale war with Iran and what do you think it would achieve or is this really about keeping Netanyahu's right wing govt on side?

Regarding the level of Gaza population - the figure quoted may be incorrect, or indeed correct.

But does it matter!?

The issue is that children are starving to death or at the least suffering from severe malnutrition, from which they may never recover.

Yes it certainly matters, so - figures of the dead doesn’t matter
because you believe some are dead ?

There will never be peace until we are not just feeding starving people but people have the means to work, feed, clothe themselves and so on. The infrastructure is now so poor after bombing this is a massive proposition.

“Almost half of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million is under 18, and the effects of starvation may follow those who survive for the rest of their lives:”

So the population of Gaza has doubled since Hamas took over, something wrong there!.

It’s seems to depend on which piece of information you believe on Mr Google, I’ve seen amounts between 800,000 right up to 2.3m

I think we should all be very concerned about the knock-on effect here in Europe. If only previous governments had stopped to consider the results of their actions when they opened the doors to all the Muslim migrants. It may be brushed over by the news sources, but there is already a lot of hostility towards those who support Israel...not just the Jews but white Britons.
There are plenty of people in the West just waiting for an excuse to launch major terrorist attacks.

I completely agree.

Reported on news last night, aid was getting through. Who does one believe

That aid is now getting through.

‘The UN’s relief agency for Palestinians said’ UNWRA in other words?
Can’t believe a word they say after their support and participation in the massacre in October their workers took part in.

This whole thing is turning into a ghastly real life game of Squid.

The media has turned its head towards the north of Israel, and all the headlines are now focused on Iran/Israel and more potential bloodshed of innocents.

Meanwhile Gaza is starving to death amongst the rubble after the aid has failed to get through.

John Kirby, Whitehouse spokesman reported yesterday that aid is now getting into Gaza on a much larger scale and quicker over the last few days.

This is what prompted my post

“Malnutrition is spreading at record pace among children, according to the World Food Programme. More than 90% of young children and pregnant and breastfeeding women are subsisting on two or fewer food groups – mainly bread – with no access to fruit, vegetables, milk or proteins.

Almost half of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million is under 18, and the effects of starvation may follow those who survive for the rest of their lives: their brains and bodies, without the nutrients needed for growth, cannot properly develop, leading to health problems such as poor eyesight and learning difficulties later in life.
The strip’s healthcare system has collapsed, and a lack of water and food has made it nearly impossible for medical staff to alleviate the symptoms of malnutrition in vulnerable people.
Jihan Abu al-Jidyan, a mother of five waiting in a long line for watery soup in Deir al-Balah, is nine months pregnant. She is severely malnourished, and it is unlikely her body will be able to produce milk when her baby arrives. Her newborn is likely to have a low birth weight, which is associated with infant mortality, and will also be at severe risk of malnutrition.

A promised surge in aid Benjamin Netanyahu promised Joe Biden after Israel’s killing of a team of international aid workers earlier this month has so far failed to materialise, charities say.

Israel has claimed that the daily passage of trucks entering Gaza has doubled since the Biden-Netanyahu call on 4 April, to about 400. The UN’s relief agency for Palestinians said, however, that after a brief peak of 246 on 9 April, the numbers of trucks crossing into Gaza had fallen the next day to 141.

Getting assistance to where it is needed most in Gaza, particularly the northern half of the territory, has been made difficult by damaged roads, a lack of fuel, a breakdown of public order and what aid agencies have described as unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles imposed by Israel.
Israeli restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid may amount to the war crime of deliberate starvation, the UN has said”.

I have the utmost sympathy for the citizens of Israel, but not with their govt.

I also empathise with the Palestinians citizens and the hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent citizens being killed.

If the Israeli govt did not want a full on war what on earth were they thinking bombing the Iranian Embassy?

There’s great right and wrongs on both sides of this atrocious situation.

Please don’t accuse me of being anti Jewish, or a terrorist supporter, as I’m neither and I know my history of both sides of this awful situation.

I pray for a full cease fire.

So have I and anyone reading your posts or mine for that matter would know we are neither anti semitic nor Islamaphobic but I am also very concerned by this Israeli government and the decisions it is making. We are, of course, in very good company as every leader in the Western world seems to be very concerned too. Unfortunately for some it is not possible to have a sensible, rational discussion without name calling of one sort or another. I do wonder if some even bother to read the whole post! Best ignored.

Jews have always been persecuted minority

Yes, they have and so have other groups, though not on the mass scale of killings and torture of Jews.

But why does that excuse the Israeli govts behaviour, some of which many Jews don’t condone??

Cossy Tue 16-Apr-24 09:20:02

Before Israel started annexing Gaza and the West Bank, in 1967, pushing Palestinians out of homes and work, I was 100% backing Israel as a haven post WW2. Since then it has become very complex indeed -

"All 2.2 million people in Gaza do not have enough food to eat, with half of the population on the brink of starvation and famine projected to arrive in the north “anytime between mid-March and May 2024,” according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification "

- this has not been solved by recent events but my sympathies still embrace the innocents caught up in events - wherever they live.

I agree 100%

Rondoallaturc I'm afraid your argument does not stack up. There are so many examples of Muslims being persecuted by other faiths or governments:
The Rohingyas in Myanmar by Buddhists
The Uygurs in China
The Crimean Muslims by the Russians and the Turkic Muslims by Stalin
In India, Modi is marginalising the Muslims etc etc
This is what creates terrorist groups not the Muslim religion and this is why what is happening to Gaza is so dangerous. The internet gives access to what is happening all over the world and you can bet Islamist extremists have contacted every persecuted Muslim group in the world offering help, training etc. Our biggest concern should be repressive governments that persecute minorities and take away people's futures so they have nothing to lose by becoming a terrorist.

Where in the UK are Muslims persecuted, they are the persecutors. Jewish people harassed and threatened on our streets, jihad threats, and flags, allowed to be tolerated by the Met, yet someone flying our flag is arrested.
We need to wake up .

Anniebach Tue 16-Apr-24 08:47:47

Strange how the alleged persecuted persecute, Jews have always been persecuted yet are expected to accept this
