Another week, another Tory MP sex scandal!

Tory MP for Fylde in Lancashire has had the whip suspended for allegedly using campaign funds in connection with bribes from people he met through a Brazilian male sex worker. Brings together corruption, sex, immigration (sex worker has had his application for residency denied 3 times..perhasp that was what attracted him to a Tory MP) and ageism. Said MP rang up his 78 year old female former campaign manager at 3am seeking her to get money to ‘release him’. The Times journalist had a field day with this - but on p12 as obviously Rayner’s horrific crime has to dominate front pages.

Why did his local party continue to support this man

Good question!

Given the money that even a humble backbench MP is on, I find it odd that this silly little man had to beg a 78 year old woman (at 3am!) to siphon off several thousands of her personal funds to pay some "bad people" and it was "a matter of life or death".

Is Mr Menzies desperately skint? What does he spend his generous (taxpayer funded) salary on? Well, maybe let's not go there......

Everyone is entitled to some privacy in their personal life even if it is on the seedy side but it is the use of campaign funds which are now 'missing' that needs investigating. If, as is thought, he has siphoned this off for the rent boy then he has to go. No question. At 76 I can remember the occasional scandal with politicians over the years but it's a tsunami of them now, especially the Tories.

Further details are beginning to be made public, including allegations he deliberately got a friend’s dog drunk so it needed vet treatment (denied says dog drunk alcohol left around after men fell asleep in the garden). Being very drunk at a last night of the proms event in Lytham, poking people and pushing. Use of party funds to pay his medical bills. The 78 year old constituency member informed the powers that be in the Conservative Party about the £6500 from party funds to pay the bad men and the 3 am phone call linked to that . It’s alleged he met up with a man via a dating so, they moved on with a couple of other men. Mr M was very drunk and vomited. £5000 demanded to clean the place up.

Sabrina the 19 year old Brazilian rent boy is in the past. These are recent concerns

Cossy I know dating apps are in common use. Grindr is not the kind of dating app people use looking fir someone to go to the cinema with / allegedly

Callistemon21

Is it that these type of sleazy people are attracted to the political life, perhaps being in the limelight?

Or does sleaze spread like a virus?

Who knows?
I remember the shock of Keith Vaz, Labour MP.😲

We’re his constituency perhaps his relations?
And is (was) Fylde a safe Tory seat. I smell another by-election in the wind.

At the rate they're going we won't need a General Election, there'll be enough new Labour MPs elected in by-elections to form a Government.

Polititians have always had questionable ethics and morals, Harold Wilson, John Major, Jeremy Thorpe, John Profumo, John Kennedy, Bill Clinton and those are just the ones that got caught.
It was much easier to hide years ago though.

Casdon Fri 19-Apr-24 12:02:27

I’ve sussed it, this must be an SNP dead cat move - with sex, drugs and rock&roll added to the embezzlement, how dull does it make the Peter Murrell just embezzlement issue seem? (Joke!).

Anniebach Fri 19-Apr-24 12:06:34

Katie59 do tell, what was Harold Wilson and J.F.K caught doing?

Katie59 Fri 19-Apr-24 12:21:49

Wilson spent more time with Marcia than Mary, maybe thats not well known in the valleys.
Kennedy had numerous affairs during his presidency, when it comes to womanizing it makes Trump look like a saint.

But maybe it’s OK unless it’s a gay relationship

Parsley3 Fri 19-Apr-24 12:26:58

The former Labour prime minister had a secret affair with Janet Hewlett-Davies, his former deputy press secretary who was 22 years his junior, towards the end of his time in No 10. Joe Haines, Wilson's former press secretary, revealed the affair in an interview with the Times on Thursday.12 Apr 2024

I don't think he was ever caught at it though.

I wonder how many times Norma Major was told 'I'll be home late tonight. Don't bother cooking. I'll grab a curry'. grin

It’s not having an affair we’re talking about here though, is it? Consensual affairs with one other person of whatever sex are a different issue. That isn’t the case with Menzies, and certainly isn’t the case with Trump.

LizzieDrip Fri 19-Apr-24 15:26:43

Exactly Casdon. The issue is did this MP misappropriate constituency funds - not did he have affairs … gay or straight. Although his ‘associations’ do appear to have been ill-judged as they may have put him in a compromising position (if you know what I mean)! This seems to be yet another in a long line of Tory MPsmaking some very dubious life choices!

In the valleys , which valleys? There were alleged affairs allegations made after JFK had been killed.

Marcia and Harold Wilson, let me explain, Marcia worked for
Harold for 20 years, secretaries do spend much time with their
employers

Parsley3 Fri 19-Apr-24 18:05:13

Indeed, his affair was with Janet Hewlett-Davies.

So he was two timing Marcia as well a Mary, randy old sod.

Iam64 Fri 19-Apr-24 18:33:02

Wilson, Kennedy, Major all had affairs when married. The Major and Wilson marriages continued as did the Kennedy despite Jacqueline being aware of his infidelity.

Call me old fashioned and judgemental but an extra marital affair is light years away from the high risk behaviour Wragg and Menzies have demonstrated. Menzies seems to have used constituency funds to pay men he got involved with willingly, who then tried to blackmail him. Is it too much to suggest using drugs, drinking to excess , getting yourself into compromising situations where anyone knows you’re open to blackmail - is unacceptable in an MP

I’m not sure there was an affair with Marcia, didn’t they both deny that
describing an affair that would cause his wife much pain by calling him a ‘Randy old sod’ somehow diminishes the betrayal. It’s bringing it into Carry on Westminster pantomime but yes, it’s feeling like that only much darker

Brings a whole new aspect to “Yes Prime Minister”, Sir Humphrey would not have been amused

Anniebach Fri 19-Apr-24 19:11:03

Fair enough some believe everything they read on line or in
the press, but impossible to accept anything they say as truth

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 19-Apr-24 19:31:37

You seem very willing to find an excuse for a Labour politician Annie, but not for others.

Katie59 Fri 19-Apr-24 19:47:27

Annie you would know, is it true that Frances Stevenson was David Lloyd-George’s mistress for 30 yrs.

flappergirl Fri 19-Apr-24 20:11:09

Harold Wilson had (I believe) a 20 year affair with his secretary and John Major had a dalliance with Edwina. The sort of thing the latest Tory batch have been up is not in any way comparable. It's not even on the same planet.

There have been god knows how many accusations of sexual assault/rape against Tory MPs this year alone and this latest one involves drugs, alcohol, rent boys, illegal immigration, blackmail and kidnap as well as misappropriation of party funds. The funds were to "pay off the bad guys" which is what Menzies yelled down the phone at 3am.

Another poster said they won't need to call a general election at this rate. I can honestly, say that having lived for many years in Italy it would raise eyebrows even there.

Bonnybanko Fri 19-Apr-24 20:17:33

It seems to be everywhere, my local undertaker has been given community service for allegedly indecent or sex offences
