Another week, another Tory MP sex scandal!

Tory MP for Fylde in Lancashire has had the whip suspended for allegedly using campaign funds in connection with bribes from people he met through a Brazilian male sex worker. Brings together corruption, sex, immigration (sex worker has had his application for residency denied 3 times..perhasp that was what attracted him to a Tory MP) and ageism. Said MP rang up his 78 year old female former campaign manager at 3am seeking her to get money to ‘release him’. The Times journalist had a field day with this - but on p12 as obviously Rayner’s horrific crime has to dominate front pages.

Is it that these type of sleazy people are attracted to the political life, perhaps being in the limelight?

Or does sleaze spread like a virus?

Who knows?
I remember the shock of Keith Vaz, Labour MP.😲

Further details are beginning to be made public, including allegations he deliberately got a friend’s dog drunk so it needed vet treatment (denied says dog drunk alcohol left around after men fell asleep in the garden). Being very drunk at a last night of the proms event in Lytham, poking people and pushing. Use of party funds to pay his medical bills. The 78 year old constituency member informed the powers that be in the Conservative Party about the £6500 from party funds to pay the bad men and the 3 am phone call linked to that . It’s alleged he met up with a man via a dating so, they moved on with a couple of other men. Mr M was very drunk and vomited. £5000 demanded to clean the place up.

Sabrina the 19 year old Brazilian rent boy is in the past. These are recent concerns

Cossy I know dating apps are in common use. Grindr is not the kind of dating app people use looking fir someone to go to the cinema with / allegedly

Everyone is entitled to some privacy in their personal life even if it is on the seedy side but it is the use of campaign funds which are now 'missing' that needs investigating. If, as is thought, he has siphoned this off for the rent boy then he has to go. No question. At 76 I can remember the occasional scandal with politicians over the years but it's a tsunami of them now, especially the Tories.

Given the money that even a humble backbench MP is on, I find it odd that this silly little man had to beg a 78 year old woman (at 3am!) to siphon off several thousands of her personal funds to pay some "bad people" and it was "a matter of life or death".

Is Mr Menzies desperately skint? What does he spend his generous (taxpayer funded) salary on? Well, maybe let's not go there......

Why did his local party continue to support this man

Good question!

Can I just say there’s nought wrong with dating apps, if you’re single, gay or otherwise!

Grindr seems very dodgy. Again, that ‘gay edgy thrill’.
And that Fish one. Can’t recall the full title.
Always when some scandal/murder/exploitation is one or other of these sites.
Shudder.

Even The Telegraph:

“ A ban on smoking? Stubbing out Tory sleaze may have been the better priority”

Iam64 Thu 18-Apr-24 20:33:30

Galaxy / I didn’t feel you were having a go at me. I don’t see sec work as a life choice as some do. It’s exploitative, dangerous and damaging . I try not to be judgemental but this man isn’t fit to be an M

What amazes me most actually is the loyalty of the people around him in his constituency office. Why compromise your own integrity and sit on this for a year.

flappergirl Thu 18-Apr-24 20:09:41

You really couldn't make this stuff up could you. Ye gods, at least Angela Rayner isn't involved with drugs, kidnap, blackmail, sex workers, sexual assault and illegal immigration. The party of sleaze are determined to live up to their name aren't they. Still, I suppose they've got to be good at something.

Casdon Thu 18-Apr-24 20:08:55

It’s a bizarre story all round. According to The Times, in the early hours he called an elderly aide asking for help because "bad people" had locked him up and his office manager eventually paid over £6,000 from her personal bank account. SHE was then reimbursed using money raised by donors for local Conservative campaigning. It would make a film.

winterwhite Thu 18-Apr-24 19:54:04

We’re his constituency perhaps his relations?
And is (was) Fylde a safe Tory seat. I smell another by-election in the wind.

Galaxy Thu 18-Apr-24 19:53:44

Am not having a go at you there Iam64, I know how you feel about the subject, it's just the way this is casually being covered in general as if it was ok.

Galaxy Thu 18-Apr-24 19:46:35

Also a private life is very different to using a rent boy or any sex worker which is exploitation and in my view abuse.

Iam64 Thu 18-Apr-24 19:36:36

It is alleged that the MPs rent boy lover was a Brazilian, refused asylum 3 times I believe. Rather sordid at the very least, vulnerable to blackmail too one suspects.

His Constituency office knew a couple of years ago that he was paying a young Brazilian sex worker, including for drugs
They chose to support the MP
Personal lives are private unless you’re a public servant, vulnerable to blackmail and living a dangerously dodgy private life leaving you open to blackmail
This man is really unsuitable to be an mp

Katie59 Thu 18-Apr-24 19:24:19

Are there any honest Tory MPs, it’s a bit depressing, especially as our MP has been proved a crook and is standing again.

Reading that two Tory councillors being disciplined for racism.

vegansrock Thu 18-Apr-24 18:21:13

The talent puddle that is the current Tory party is a direct result of Johnson getting rid of the experienced remain supporting Tories of the previous era. Instead we’ve got a bunch of public school nodding dogs with dubious proclivities. Many of the few good ones aren’t standing again.

I think there might be something in that.

LizzieDrip Thu 18-Apr-24 17:45:14

Agreed Urmstogran. With all these recent MP scandals those who lose out are their constituents. I imagine these dodgy MPs haven’t been dedicating all their time & effort into the job they’re paid to do, which is supporting their constituents.

Another slime ball MP. Why do they put themselves in these sexual situations? Gay dating apps/dodgy characters etc. Some men (politicians or not) must just love the thrill of it all. The edgy danger. Getting locked in an apartment then being threatened with blackmail. Ye gods.

That said apparently Tory HQ have known about this incident for three months! Maybe they were hoping it wouldn’t blow up in their faces? Well it has and the whole shenanigans is dispiriting. Not just the bad judgement of said MP but his further lying after panicking about the mess he was in at 3am.

I’d have zero respect for this man now. I’m glad he lost the Whip but I feel sorry for his constituents on the Fylde coast.
