😱
Not very PC is she? Heck.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Apr-24 08:29:29

Contrary to what is written on here.

The general opinion is that Rayner wiped the floor with Dowden.

This was largely reflected in the absence of support from the backbenches.

Joseann that’s how I feel, our PM is unable to do anything about his stature.

Joseann - I’m not keen on insults directed at looks . This was clearly scripted like so many of the insults hurled during pmq

Nothing to do with snobbery for me, I just think it's verging on being hurtful.

Cross posted there with Annie and flapper girl. Good to see others challenging the criticism

Joseann Thu 25-Apr-24 08:21:27

If the remark fell off her tongue, then what other personal put-downs is she likely to come out with as deputy PM in highly charged situations?
If she planned the remark all along, doesn't that just prove her lack of confidence and her shallowness - that she has to resort to insults about personal appearance to get attention?

Personally, I don't want everyone to become desensitised to offensive personal insults referring to their bodies. It crosses a line for me.

The snobbery towards Rayner by Primrose and Curtaintwitcher to name but two, isn’t surprising even if it’s slightly dispiriting

Showing her roots, flashing her nickers (if she was wearing any ) - says more about the people commenting than it does about Angela Rayner
ā€˜Roots’ - she wasn’t well cared for, nurtured or surrounded by good role models as a child. Is that what you mean? That you can take the girl out of poverty but never take poverty out of the individual.
Angela may be a bit rough for some but she’s inspirational to others

Anniebach Thu 25-Apr-24 08:19:34

Her roots, she lived in a council house oh the shame , how can
anyone who lived in a council house be allowed to be in
parliament, oh yes her constituents voted for her

flappergirl Thu 25-Apr-24 08:11:26

Curtaintwitcher

She's showing her roots. She makes personal remarks and flashes her knickers at the opposition (actually there seems to be doubt as to whether she was actually wearing any)!
This is the woman who might be the Prime Minister very soon, if Starmer is forced to step down.

Her roots? Do you by any chance mean she's not Eton educated and from landed gentry stock. Do you feel those qualifications preclude MP's from being liars, thieves, rapists and serial adulterers to name but a few of their many vile activities. If so, your theory doesn't exactly hold water does it?

If she wasn't wearing knickers perhaps she thought she'd save the opposition the effort of ripping them off when they tried to sexually assault her, as they have with innumerable other women (and a couple of men).

But it's all perfectly acceptable because they have the right connections.

Thanks.
That's what I remembered the furore being about - the fact that she crossed her legs.

As you say, its baseless, and not real news.
Suppose it keeps the gutter press in business though.

eazybee Thu 25-Apr-24 08:02:20

I have just listened to her screeching in Prime Minister's Question time.
Oh dear.
To think this woman might be representing Britain as Deputy Prime Minister, achieved purely by Trade Union pressure.

ronib Thu 25-Apr-24 07:58:22

MissAdventure I think the rumours started around the time AR crossed and uncrossed her legs when sitting opposite Boris Johnson in the HoC.
Although I wish time and energy went into the important topics of the day….. it all feels very unprofessional.

MissAdventure Thu 25-Apr-24 07:33:47

I've never seen anything to suggest she was knickerless.
Where did that info come from?

Yet Angela Rayner isn’t fit to be deputy leader for her put down

Casdon Wed 24-Apr-24 22:47:35

My insults prize goes to Benjamin Disraeli, who I’ve always found fascinating. He was the master of the political put down, and had a longstanding dislike of William Gladstone. Among his best were:

"The difference between a misfortune and a calamity is this: If Gladstone fell into the Thames, it would be a misfortune. But if someone dragged him out again, that would be a calamity."

"Inebriated with the exuberance of his own verbosity, and gifted with an egotistical imagination."

"He has not one single redeeming defect."

The last one is particularly incisive.

How did Churchill survive ,his body lay in state for three days, have a state funeral, voted the greatest Briton, not in
South Wales

Because he was conservative? Born in Blenheim Palace ?

'My dear you are ugly, but tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be ugly': Winston Churchill tops poll of history's funniest insults | The Independent

I think the most astute one liner was actually said by Aneurin Bevan in 1948 who called the Tories "lower than vermin". What it lacked in wit, it made up for in truth.

MissAdventure Wed 24-Apr-24 22:12:30

What is it you want us not to reply to, again?

The Houses of Parliament are a theatre.

Lots had been said by politicians of all hues.

I prefer a spot of passion now and then.

Politicians used to have something about them. Now they're mainly bland, boring and absurd.

They're not terribly witty, are they Louella

Just plain rude instead.

Oh dear. She seems to lack manners.
I don’t have any time time for Sunak, but that’s beside the point.

Sparklefizz

What would people be saying if Sunak had personally insulted Angela Rayner? All hell would break loose!!

Mollygo perfectly reasonable and very true but you do know the AR lovers will not reply. šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‹

For Rayner, " when people are rude to you, they reveal who they are, not who you are" unknown.
"Insults are arguments employed by those who are in the wrong." Jean-Jaques Rousseau.
Fits well. Nothing more to say really.

Gosh, there will be many turning in their political graves tonight then.
