Well I like her! I watched pmqs as normal and she is a straight talker. Perhaps her use of ā€œpintā€ was illadvised but …….

I've just watched it and it horrifies me that Angela Raynor could be representing our country on the world stage as Deputy Prime Minister if Labour gets elected. Shocking.

As compared to the delightful Lee Anderson?

Above?

Above is someone with no sense of occasion.
(But he does speak posh)

In her high position in politics she should learn to calm down a little or she will lose respect.
I agree with everything she says but there are ways of getting a dig in without resorting to insults.
I feel these debates are getting very childish by all parties which then make you wonder who is appropriate to be in such a responsible position, they should remember they have our lives in their hands which is nothing to take lightly.

It's unacceptable to make comments about someone's appearance, no matter who they are.

This. šŸ‘
It’s about appearance not character. That’s why it’s not nice nor acceptable. Physical attributes cannot be altered (in the main).

Joseann Wed 24-Apr-24 15:30:41

Oh dear, she might think it, but saying it she doesn't really have a sense of occasion, does she?

Labradora Wed 24-Apr-24 15:28:04

"What would people be saying if Sunak had personally insulted Angela Rayner? All hell would break lose!!

When people resort to personal name-calling, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel."

Quite, Sparklefizz

Cameron once called his rival ā€œthe nothing manā€

But Casdon do you know of any ā€˜mugwumps’? A rare species. So rare I think they don’t exist! That’s the point. Why Boris would have said ā€œApologies … ā€œ etc as there was no need - there WERE no mugwumps to take offence.

But what Rayner said is different. An insult about soneone’s like of height. It’s real. So it’s unacceptable.

A world of difference!

They exist Urmstongran, it’s an American term of insult. Mugwumps were originally Republican political activists who were "sanctimonious" or "holier-than-thou" in holding themselves aloof from the party. Johnson knew exactly what he was saying, and so did Corbyn.

HousePlantQueen Wed 24-Apr-24 15:22:05

Some people just cannot forgive a working class woman "getting above her station" and it says more about them than it does about Ms Rayner.

I don't like bad language and sneering comments made by any side of the HoC but it is rather rich when Tory supporters call out someone for insults, surely calling someone scum or making comments about their size pales into insignificance compared to their beloved Johnson's "F^ck business" comments for just one example

Minister Dennis Healey once claimed that Margaret Thatcher mixed ā€œthe diplomacy of Alf Garnett with the economics of Arthur Daley.ā€

Lloyd George, who led Britain for much of the First World War, could be sharp-tongued himself, saying once of rival politician Sir John Simon: ā€œThe right honorable and learned gentleman has twice crossed the floor of the house, each time leaving behind a trail of slime.ā€

Louella12 Wed 24-Apr-24 15:13:52

Well, Angela, (who I've always liked), hit the nail on the head there.

Well said, Angela šŸ‘

AGAA4 Wed 24-Apr-24 15:13:40

I think it's a childish trait to make fun of someone's size. Belongs in the playground.
When someone uses these tactics it says more about them than those they attack.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Apr-24 15:13:19

*lack

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 24-Apr-24 15:13:06

It’s not simply the insult, it’s her inability to act like a Deputy Prime Minister and command respect on the world stage. She hasn’t got what it takes and shows no sign of trying to improve on that.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Apr-24 15:12:44

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 24-Apr-24 15:12:33

Does anyone remember a previous Deputy PM punching someone in the face?

Casdon Wed 24-Apr-24 15:05:23

Actually, although I’m no fan of either of them, I can remember Johnson calling Jeremy Corbyn a ā€˜mutton-headed old mugwump’ as well - and refusing to apologise except ā€˜to mugwumps everywhere’. Tell me that is not equally or more insulting?
As PMQ insults were Johnson’s trademark PMQ behaviour it’s a bit rich criticising a Labour politician for giving it back - but, oh no, it’s Angela Rayner so she must deserve it. Really?
As I said before, I don’t like politicians trading insults at PMQ wherever it’s coming from, but there should be some reflection on double standards here.

Spinnaker Wed 24-Apr-24 15:03:52

As we'd say in this part of the country "she's nowt more than a mouthy mare"

She makes me shudder as soon as I hear her and like a lot have already said, she would be a total embarrassment on the world stage.

MissAdventure Wed 24-Apr-24 15:03:06

They've all been like that for a long time.
Sneering and jeering, and showing off their ability to use long words.

Like a bunch of big fat spoilt children.
