MillieBoris, I live in a coastal area where ( on a clear day) I can see France. There are a range of opinions on immigration here, not just one.

Good Morning Thursday 7th May 2026
I have to comment on a new thread about some of the comments on here relating to immigrants, entering either via illegal means or via correct channels.
Those entering our country illegally, for whatever reason, make up just 1% of our overall population.
Often, but not always, they've made arduous physically and emotionally demanding journeys just to reach Europe. Often, but not always, their second language is English and sometimes they have links to the UK.
1% of our population!
Yet so much time is given to portraying them in the media as men pretending to be boys, criminals, exploiters, scroungers etc etc etc
Perhaps before swallowing all the "bad" stories about immigrants portrayed in our media, encouraged by our govt., you should, a) remember these people are human beings, b) we are here safe and sound only due to an accident of birth.
If you must "blame" someone for this situation, blame the corrupt govts from which many of these people come, blame the traffickers, blame our inept govt.
We could (not saying we should!) have housed every single asylum seeker in the last two years using the money our govt has so freely given to France and Rwanda.
Think and research before you negatively comment about immigrants.

By saying biased and bigoted I assume you mean media that you don't agree with Katie59?
No politians and media that influences the masses. Brexit is a good example, Al Jazeera a Muslim owned media reporting on Gaza, of course it is biased, propaganda has proved to be the only effective weapon Hamas has.
Try living in one of the coastal areas where immigrants seem to have taken over - occupying hotels and properties that have become slums. I have a friend who is scared to walk the streets with her dog. Whatever ‘wokish’ ideals you have this isn’t good - perhaps you have a solution???
Well said!

There is no shortage of useful idiots that can be manipulated, polititians and the media are using them all the time.
Those that believe biased and bigoted media.
This debate reminds me of ‘luxury beliefs’ defined initially as follows :-
‘A luxury belief is an idea or opinion that confers status on members of the upper class at little cost, while inflicting costs on persons in lower classes. The term is often applied to privileged individuals who are seen as disconnected from the lived experiences of impoverished and marginalized people.‘
Clearly, as with ‘virtue signalling’, the concept has been adopted by the aspiring elite and those who actually would be negatively affected by their beliefs.
Another helpful definition is that of the ‘useful idiot’. These are ‘ a naive or credulous person who can be manipulated or exploited to advance a cause or political agenda.’
If you do it legally it is very difficult. Another reason why they want to jump the queue. What about all those who are more honest and just wait and do it legally? Oh, doesn’t matter, the back door ones get sympathy and help. Something’s rotten in the state of Denmark.
I`m just hoping that Sunny get`s a proper chance, without the PCs & HRs people & all the other snowflakes that kept sticking their oars in, get`s a plane off the ground & on it`s way to Rawanda. That will really help stop them crossing the channel for the UK. It`s allready working without take off, they are heading for Ireland, even they don`t want them, like the UK the country is over crowded with people allready. I see they are savvy enough not to try & enter Northern Ireland! I hope it really happens, then it will give Barmy, Smarmy Starmer a proper run for his money when the forth coming Election goes live. If people think Labour will get the boat migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, or call them whatever you like, then they will be in for a BIG disappointment! It will be back to the Blairs Reign, the flood gates will be opened up to let anybody in again. Just make sure you get those planes loaded up & of the ground before everyone gangs up on you like ALL the other times Mr Sunak.
Can the uk take in all the folk who live under a corrupt or inept government? I
The people that live near to these hotels and blocks of flats they are living in tell a different story. They aren't political. It's not false information that they are being given somewhere to live when there are thousands of people born in the country homeless.

Does that matter? Why?
It matters because it was a requirement.
There was no question of the woman converting to his faith.
Anyway, I wasn't asking you.
Does that matter? Why?

It's much more complex than just blaming everything on politicians. Also a lot depends on where you live. I suspect that it's pretty scary living in some areas. Did you see the photos last weekend if a whole London street blocked by Muslims men praying? The luckily, aborted, plan to take over the running of schools in Birmingham a few years ago was scary. Demands for prayer room in schools etc. Other ethnic and religious groups don't do this. I think it's understandable that some people are uncomfortable with the sheer number of Muslims moving here.
Goodness me! I wonder what some of the people would do if their daughter married a Muslim?
Did your daughter have to convert to Islam growstuff?
A young man we know had to do that before he could marry his Muslim girlfriend.

Are they all convicted criminals?
Not all but some had been convicted of murder or attempted murder and at least one is a convicted paedophile.
The High Court ruled on Wednesday that a stateless Rohingya man in detention, who had previously served time in jail for child sex offences, had been unlawfully detained.

It doesn't scare me, Aveline.
I find conflating praying, a peaceful action, with being 'scared' is a bit hysterical. Are you expecting them all to leap to their feet once the prayer is over and start a massacre of unbelievers?Clearly she is!
I have a very close friend who has a property in Turkey. I’ve visited many times. I’m woken at 5:00am if I leave my window open as it’s near a beautiful mosque, listening to the gentle, rhythmic chanting. It’s rather wonderful, not at all scary. Last year the pair of us, in our 60’s, undertook a 6 day road trip around parts of Turkey, staying in very small B&Bs and very often way off the beaten track, eating lunch in tiny roadside cafes. No problems or issues or anything to be scared about. The religion of this country is not, as yet Islam. I hope it never will be, but many immigrants would wish it to be. That is totally unacceptable.
Really? Have you had many conversations with immigrants?
Are they all convicted criminals?

Thank you,I really didn’t expect someone to reply ‘detention centres and hotels’
The thread is about illegal migrants though Anniebach? Legal migrants and people who are granted asylum have been accepted by the UK. For example, those who fled Ukraine are now seeking rented accommodation after the initial family support system ended, but they pay market rent, the same applies whatever route people took to be granted asylum.
Not for life
Detention centres and hotels.
Where are migrants housed ?
