So the UK’s ineptitude is now Southern Ireland’s Issue

Yes, in the past I’ve supported the asylum seekers, not dehumanised them, and I still do, however if I was in Southern Ireland, particularly Dublin, I would be extremely angry at the UK’s government and their utter ineptitude to “stop the boats” or as most of us would put it, to put a stop to dangerous human traffickers by allowing safe, legal access to Refugees, processing them quickly and efficiently and have a safe means to deport them if they cannot be accepted.

It is a complete sh*t show and now Eire also have to take some sort of action.

Sunak refuses to have any back, even those (& there are some) whose applications are being processed.

Whatever next? Are we, as a nation, hell bent on falling out with as many nations as we can?

Does anyone still think Brexit brought us many wins?

Cossy I normally say I'm from Northern Ireland and I'm British. The alternative would be to say I am Northern Irish. Over here if people say I'm Irish, we assume they are from the Republic.

Katie59 just one little example
If I order from Klass I have to pay £15 for delivery as Klass has a different delivery price for "Ireland" to what they charge for the UK. (which according to them is England Scotland and Wales, which is incorrect.) Even Amazon choice is more limited here.
Cost of many things are more expensive in N Ireland now than they were previously and many businesses don't deliver here any longer because of the difficulties.
Totally unfair to NI.
I see no problem with goods destined for the EU going straight to Dublin port.

Thanks Cossy.

“Cossy
Anyone born and bred in Scotland and Wakes, are British AND Scottish and/or Welsh, ditto N Ireland, doesn’t stop you being Irish does it!
Why did you miss out England?
Anyone born in England is English and also British. I normally say I’m from England if asked where I come from.”

Sorry, just an oversight, not deliberate and of course you’re correct.

If and it’s a big if the U.K. is guilty of ineptitude regarding the small boats surely France is definitely guilty.

The French Border Patrol’s watch the human traffickers overload these small dinghies knowing that they have a chance of sinking and therefore risking the lives of those on board before they reach the U.K. ?

I agree, though I suspect the French have done this deliberately! I could be wrong.

Residents of Republic and NI could move freely between countries which is what is important. And there could be an EU checkpoint for goods. I don't know exactly how it would work. But that's up to the intelligent politicians.

Which intelligent Politicians would that be?

There could be a check point for goods on the border but if anyone is determined to smuggle anything it’s easy to evade. In practice goods are at the ferry ports those destined for Eire are declared, those for NI are waved through. Despite some complaints from Unionists it works and is a hell of a lot better than the troubles in the past.

The UK does check passports of incoming passengers, Eire citizens do have freedom of movement in UK but others do not.

So in effect the asylum seekers can claim protection from the UKs policy of being sent to Rwanda

But anyone can move between UK and ROI - we can go there freely and they can come here, no need to go through NI. It’s the UKs pettiness that have affected ROI for centuries also the notion that people born/ bred in Ireland aren’t Irish - that’s petty sectarianism.

👏👏👏👏

Northern Ireland is part of UK.. How is it sectarian to say I am British? I can however choose to say I am Irish

Our NCA together with European forces smashed this network.
I listened to the whole story ( told by the operatives who were working on it) absolutely fascinating.
I would bet the bungalow that all the information they gathered then ( busting into burner phones) is being used now.
I know many here don’t believe a word written in the DM but this did really happen.

Hearing a retired Border Force officer, we have always had a common travel area with Ireland, so we can all come and go without papers. So the Irish cannot stop buses, and if they have no documents, well they can't negotiate with us a "deal". As they are in the EU, they have to do it through Brussels.
So Brussels has screwed Ireland, with their petty rules.

I agree, Aveline. We pay them handsomely to stop the boats, with little effect - save that now Belgium is also favoured. Will we have to pay the Belgians too?

Yes, you do have a very good point, but I don’t understand why our Gov handed them TWO lots of £££££ when they clearly don’t give a fig about shipping them across, imo.

Or for the French Navy escorting them into British waters.

Ignore me anyway, I'm not feeling very well. Don't know why I'm trying to post anything sensible. 😁

Oh dear, wish you better.
