Smashing glass round the Magna Carta and claiming the government is breaking the law.

Babamaman Tue 14-May-24 17:37:05

Do they use mobile phones? Wear glasses made of plastic? Put washing pods in their washing/dishwashers? And we could all go on!
Destructive hypocrits - as another grand better said “they should have been left stuck to whatever they were glued to”! Good luck needing the toilet!

Nannageddon Tue 14-May-24 18:57:18

How about protesting over the many people in this country who live in poverty especially people of their own age. People who would love a day out to visit a museum and maybe just get a warm meal.

The whole Greta thing is beyond belief. Western leaders listening rapt to the deluded ramblings of a juvenile with limited education is something I still find incredible. She’s autistic, from an acting family and just loves the attention and adoration. Her mum has written a book. Follow the money.

I agree and see a Joan Of Arc effect.

Seems to have died down quite a lot now tho Urmstongran

It’s now the Just Stop Oil people pulling stunts.I bet they feel so good and it gives them a rush.

Vandals =prison

Joan of Arc, who may also have been meurally diverse, ended up having those who supported her turn on her when she was no longer of use and she ended up being burnt at the stake.

I do hope that those around this woman, will some time soon have the wisdom to guide her and help her to to return to education and live out of the limelight and not just toss her on the wayside when they have finished exploiting her.

I don't agree with the very destructive methods that these protesters use but, as Monica says, calling these women "silly old biddies" is uncalled for.

As to the comments about whether they use mobile phones, etc., and labelling them as hypocrites if they do, I think that is equally daft. It is very difficult to operate in this world now without a mobile phone or a computer. Virtually everything is based on some device or other. Anyway, we don't know how they conduct their lives - they may well try to make as little environmental impact as possible in their everyday lives.

For anyone who has seen the film "Don't Look Up", although its premise is based on, I think, a missile hurtling towards earth which will destroy it, I think it was a very good metaphor for what is happening re climate change. People who could see the imminent danger the world was facing were given little spots on news programme, in between publicising books, films, and TV programmes, to try and warn everyone that something very dangerous was approaching fast. The end of the film was not optimistic!

Tbh, if the pics of them in the papers are anything to go by I personally thought they looked blankly confused. ("Who am I? What am I doing here? How did I get here? Where's the nurse with today's medication?")

Greta the gurning attention-seeker doesn't seem to know what she specifically wants to protest about these days - she turned up at the Eurovision to protest about the situation in Gaza and, boy, she made sure she was at the front for her photo opp.
So - what will she be protesting about next week? Which cause will she deem likely to get her max attention? Go and get a job Greta - oh, you probably can't because you threw your education off a cliff. You will just have to become a bored Trust Fund luvvie like the rest of 'em......

In my view, I find the Just Stop Oil people are just road blockers ie stopping people getting to work, especially medical staff and teachers. It is totally unnecessary and doesn't do their cause any favours. I joined in protests in my 'yoof' but it was organised protests on specific dates - and the TV people were still there.

TerriBull Wed 19-Jun-24 14:47:44

These appalling people have now sprayed orange paint over Stonehenge, England's most ancient site. I hope they are arrested, prosecuted and receive custodial sentencesangry

JudyBloom Wed 19-Jun-24 14:52:35

I agree with you TerriBull, their behaviour is truly shocking, something has to be done about them!

Smileless2012 Wed 19-Jun-24 14:55:47

They're vandals; nothing more than vandals angry.

Wyllow3 Wed 19-Jun-24 15:10:35

Appalling idea to spray powder paint even if it hoses off. Two arrested.

Some kind of peaceful demonstration instead - it would have been a good place as summer solstice people likely to be sympathetic.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Jun-24 15:17:08

Vandalism, I hope they encounter the full force of U.K. law

nanaK54 Wed 19-Jun-24 15:33:19

Outrageous I too hope that they get custodial sentences angry

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 19-Jun-24 15:35:15

So do I. Totally unacceptable criminal behaviour.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Jun-24 15:46:36

A custodial sentence definitely.
(Yes I know our prisons are overcrowded)

A fine is worthless as the organisation behind them or a do gooder will pay it for them.

Cadenza123 Wed 19-Jun-24 15:55:43

I suspect that future generations will ask why we didn't do more.

How is vandalising an ancient holy sight helping their cause?

The majority of the population is doing what it can, the U.K. is reducing its carbon footprint.

We all know who the main culprits are (Russia, China, USA) and Germany is not doing enough either.

Chestnut Wed 19-Jun-24 16:11:52

I was horrified and disturbed to think anyone would do such a thing. This is completely the wrong thing to target and shows utter ignorance.

They hosed it down but have not yet been able to remove it all. Quote: The group said it used orange cornflour paint to spray onto the stones, which it claimed would 'soon wash away with the rain'.

Well, we'll have to see. Meanwhile, give them some fluffy brushes and water to remove it and stand over them 12 hours a day while they clean it off, every bit of it.
