I like it.

It was left over from Captain Tom, so past its sell-by date!

Callistemon21 Fri 17-May-24 11:57:43

I expect it was a job lot, Glorianny

After thinking about this, in my opinion the artist was happy with how he'd painted the face and hands but completely messed up painting the uniform of the Welsh Guards so scribbled all over it with the remains of the red paint.
"No-one will ever realise I messed up" he thought to himself. "They'll spend years trying to work out the symbolism of it all".

grin Along with "I have to use up all this bloody red paint!"

I don’t concern myself with cults, satanic or otherwise. There are quite enough fantasies going round at the moment and they also use words like subliminal.

“The flip made me laugh. If you ever flip a photo of yourself you look different -but so what?”

Are you seeing what so many people are commenting on? It’s not his facial image, it’s the subliminal image joining the two together.

If you’re aware of the satanic cult with its rituals/symbolism/ceremonies that permeate so much of society - you will see why so many are interpreting this portrait in this way. It has nothing to do ‘with the lives they lead’ - it is an awareness of what actually exists in the world.

“Quite demonic, full of symbolism and ‘Blood on his hands’ is what many are saying. Flipped, it shows another image

There’s always someone who will come up with that sort of comment. Goodness knows what sort of life they lead.
Had he been painted against a white or pale blue background, they’d probably have said he was cold, remote and unfeeling and equally it was full of symbolism.
The flip made me laugh. If you ever flip a photo of yourself you look different -but so what?

Different. Because we live in different times.
I like the contemporary styling.

It’s good for now, but knowing how the color red often times raises controversy, the legacy of this painting will evoke a time of unrest and turmoil.

I had a look at the painters site and was amazed at the paintings shown, I’m totally overwhelmed by the one of my secret crush Idris Elba, I’m positively drooling. I think King Charles portrait is wonderful, so powerful, and the red although at first seems too too much the more you look at it the more you see.

grannybuy Thu 16-May-24 23:30:38

The face is absolutely spot on, but at first glance, the head, standing out from the red, looks as if it isn’t attached to anything. Overall though, I quite like it.

Merrymary Thu 16-May-24 22:17:02

Oh dear - it looks like he is burning in hell!

MissAdventure Thu 16-May-24 18:21:17

It's really worth following the link to look at his other portraits.
They are stunning, and less red, generally.

I love it ! I think it is strong and the butterfly a symbol which anyone can put their interpretation on. Different and very unusual.. a modern portrait for a new era I think

MissAdventure Thu 16-May-24 17:54:54

It reminds me of the scene from the film 'Carrie'.

hideous....looks like a prediction of where he will end up.

Well, it's where someone who expresses thoughts like that might end up, that's for sure.

Grandma2002 Thu 16-May-24 17:25:36

I like it.

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Thu 16-May-24 17:15:59

I like it. It's so unlike the traditional old fashioned formal pose and is more about the face of the man. Gets a 👍from me 😊

Blossoming Thu 16-May-24 16:47:44

It hurts my dodgy eyes. 👀

SheWho Thu 16-May-24 16:17:10

Yes, it is a very good likeness, but I'm not sure about "all that red" either. However, if you look carefully - and I'm not sure if this is the artist's intention or not - but there seems to be two people in the red, one on either side of him.

Labradora Thu 16-May-24 16:10:08

I like it. I don't know why but I do.

I'm sure he will invite you to a garden party now - what a truly nasty comment.

LovesBach Thu 16-May-24 15:22:37

An unusual and striking portrait - evidently Camilla said that the artist had 'Got him'. The face is so good; thoughtful and gentle. I love it.

greenlady102 Thu 16-May-24 14:04:15

Did I say it was my prediction?
