I like it.

I like it and think the face and hands are beautifully done I like the contemporary idea too but at the moment all I can see is his head popping out of a big red cloak or curtain like someone peeping out of theatre curtains on a stage
I m also not keen on red I think blues and greens for the environment would have been nicer especially for that lovely butterfly

Red makes me think of fire, destruction temper and blood

I like it, his face is so lifelike, if you look closely you can see that he is wearing his guards uniform.

Red is my least favourite colour, but it somehow goes for this portrait.

Or you could be the boy who says the king is naked Big Bertha.

I think I'm too much of a prole to appreciate it.

I thought the butterfly might be a representation of the late Queen flying away, leaving her son to be the new monarch.

Wrong again!

I like the portrait. Jonathan Yeo is a brilliant artist and to be honest I can’t imagine not liking any portrait he produces. There are so many portraits of the King and when he was Prince of Wales but this one will not be forgotten. TheKing is shown as he appears to be and that is an intelligent, thoughtful and pleasant man. The artist wanted to show this without the red uniform taking over and made the bold decision to paint red against red. He also wanted a portrait that was modern and different. Love the butterfly and it’s symbolism. Yes, really like it.

I think it’s an incredible portrait and very, very well executed. I really like it a lot.

welbeck Wed 15-May-24 02:21:00

blue would have been much better.
red looks violent.

Whethertomorrow Wed 15-May-24 02:07:27

The face and hair are good but it looks like he’s lying in a bath of red jelly with just his head sticking out!

maddyone Tue 14-May-24 23:09:57

The likeness is good but I don’t like all the red.

VioletSky Tue 14-May-24 23:08:16

That's not what I expected at all... I'm not a fan of red but I think I would have liked it if it was a different main colour

DamaskRose Tue 14-May-24 22:58:26

I like it - a lot.

Luckygirl3 Tue 14-May-24 22:56:14

It's good.

Shelflife Tue 14-May-24 22:56:06

I love it - wonderful!

MissAdventure Tue 14-May-24 22:54:37

I almost like it too.
The red on his face looks almost as if he crying blood.

merlotgran Tue 14-May-24 22:49:45

I like it but when the Newsreader said the King was wearing the uniform of the Welsh Guards I thought, How can you tell?

Calipso Tue 14-May-24 22:35:42

I think it's a brave and talented portrayal of the King. I like it very much.

Bridie22 Tue 14-May-24 22:33:52

Like it, its different and striking.

Callistemon21 Tue 14-May-24 22:29:36

henetha

I almost like it.

Oh yes, that's how I feel about it.

Unless you knew, it isn't obvious he's wearing the uniform of the Welsh Guards.

biglouis Tue 14-May-24 22:19:30

I find it a bit unsettling as red is not my favorite colour. However I like the touch of the butterfly to symbolise metamorphosis since he was still Prince of Wales when the protrait was begun.

Bea65 Tue 14-May-24 22:15:07

The red background is too disturbing IMO.. reminds me of Game of Thrones.. but the face and hands look good

keepingquiet Tue 14-May-24 22:11:19

I like that his face takes precedence and not all the usual uniform paraphenalia stuff- he seems more like a person than a king.

henetha Tue 14-May-24 22:11:10

I almost like it.

Hellogirl1 Tue 14-May-24 22:06:54

Too red

NfkDumpling Tue 14-May-24 21:44:11

I like it. The artist said he thought the red uniform would dominate the picture (which it would) to the detriment of the King's face so made the background red too. The portrait itself is brilliant.
