New Caledonia riots and colonialism

I had t heard about this, but I am on holiday in Seville.

I listened to a piece on this a few days back. The Chinese are heavily invloved in the island.

The situation in Noumea and New Caledonia in general is not good. The Kanaks have had enough of French colonial rule and are rioting and burning buildings. The Australian airforce has managed to get a group of Australian tourists home but there are others still waiting to get out. We were due to go there this in December , it is a lovely holiday destination but I do feel sorry for the native peoples under French rule. Colonialism seems to always cause problems, sooner or later.
