The news feeds are buzzing, July 4th mentioned - ironic.

Now here's a very difficult decision to have to make. In my opinion there is absolutely no-one who has the intelligence, wisdom and strength of character to take this country forward, turn it round and build it up. I will seriously consider whether to vote or not. What a state to be in. I have no confidence in any party or any politician.

Please vote, I don’t care who for! Women sacrificed their lives to us this right AND if we don’t vote (anyone), we really do lose the right to complain. There must be one of the parties which meets the majority of your ethos and beliefs?

Shame on you ! To not vote means you have no appreciation for that right that many in other countries don’t have !

Cossy with respect I didn’t say Steve Bray supported Labour.
And I don’t appreciate being told to ‘grow up’.

With respect, Urmstongran, it was exactly what you inferred. He isn’t supported by Hugh Grant, he once played something loud somewhere at the request of HG. Which I also think is childish. Your remark was utterly childish. I don’t appreciate all the remarks constantly directed at anyone who isn’t a Tory, but we have to tolerate them in the name of democracy.

I totally agree with you Marthjolly.

The loud music being played during Richi Sunaks speech was very disrespectful.

How do you know this , Urmstongran ?

Google is your friend.

It also lists his net worth $2 million as of 2022 ( no idea why it’s in $ not £)

Yes, but Hugh Grant’s not a Labour supporter specifically, he’s just anti Tory. He’s worth £150m apparently, so he can afford to support whoever he likes.

maddyone Wed 22-May-24 18:38:25

Quelle surprise!

I’m relieved. It couldn’t get much worse. I’m not a fan of Starmer but almost anything is better than a right wing Tory party who’ve destroyed our public services.

We shall see

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-May-24 18:33:05

Quite a contrast of optics between the two leaders.

Starmer chose a prime ministerial look - stood in a panelled room in front of two union flags.

Sunak chose to get wet.

Isn’t it too late now, he’s already seen the King, because he needed his permission to dissolve parliament? Is it constitutionally even possible to oust the leader of a party once the election has been called, does anybody know?

Sorry, that was for DiamondLily.

Well off and entitled Labour supporters fund Steve Bray. 📣 The luvvie Hugh Grant for one. Nice to have spare money eh?

Please grow up! Steve Bray isn’t a labour supporter. This Welshman is a Lib Dem!

The D:Ream music being played so loudly was disgraceful and extremely juvenile. Not surprised really as this is the only way Labour behaves.

RS was absolutely drenched and then that awful music trying to drown him out but fortunately he just carried on. Had it been me I would have insisted I was not carrying on until the Police had stopped the music.
The music was nothing to do with Labour. Are you setting off the tory lie machine already?

I
Oh come off it.
Do you really think the playing of New Labours theme song wasn’t politically motivated?
Presumably you also believe in the tooth fairy, Santa Claus and Fairy Godmothers“

Steve Bray, the demonstrator, affiliates himself with the Liberal Democrat’s.

I’m sure MazieD will forgive your rudeness!

I am happy to hear that we have an election date at last.

I certainly will not be voting for Sunak!

They will not be stopped from voting. The game's afoot.

Some Tory MPs are, apparently going nuts:

“The bombshell is threatening to set the Tory tinderbox ablaze, with MPs telling MailOnline that Mr Sunak has a 'death wish' and the Parliamentary party will go 'nuts' at the prospect of charging towards a disastrous defeat.

Chair of the powerful 1922 committee Graham Brady is now said to be accepting texts from people who want to voice no confidence in the leader.

One former Cabinet minister said: 'There will be queues outside Graham Brady's door.'

Another senior backbencher told MailOnline that even if Mr Sunak goes to see the King they could attempt a coup to try to prevent the writ being moved to dissolve Parliament.”

Scottish school holidays will be on then, but stuff the Scots, eh?

What's stopping them voting , postal votes easy to arrange. Even proxy votes. Plenty of time to get sorted.

^Yes, he was the one that did all the Brexit shouting. I think he works to his own beliefs^

Yes, like him or loathe him, I, for one, am pleased to live in a country where we can protest, speak freely in public, shout loudly and play music in protest. I would absolutely not want it to be stopped!

Whilst I do totally agree, he didn’t need to play it quite so loudly for Sunak’s speech.

Great news! Shame though that it is the Scottish school holidays by then and all the Universities in the country will have finished. We have a postal vote thankfully.
General election very very much needed.

The SNP leader was grumbling about this, saying how ‘disrespectful’ of the Tories.

Why does it matter? A postal vote would suffice if on holiday.
Can’t see the problem.
