The news feeds are buzzing, July 4th mentioned - ironic.

How do you know this , Urmstongran ?

Google is your friend.

It also lists his net worth $2 million as of 2022 ( no idea why it’s in $ not £)

Yes, but Hugh Grant’s not a Labour supporter specifically, he’s just anti Tory. He’s worth £150m apparently, so he can afford to support whoever he likes.

Urmstongran Wed 22-May-24 18:46:20

Cossy with respect I didn’t say Steve Bray supported Labour.
And I don’t appreciate being told to ‘grow up’.

rafichagran Wed 22-May-24 18:48:35

The loud music being played during Richi Sunaks speech was very disrespectful.

Marthjolly1 Wed 22-May-24 18:50:28

Now here's a very difficult decision to have to make. In my opinion there is absolutely no-one who has the intelligence, wisdom and strength of character to take this country forward, turn it round and build it up. I will seriously consider whether to vote or not. What a state to be in. I have no confidence in any party or any politician.

maddyone Wed 22-May-24 18:52:30

I totally agree with you Marthjolly.

With respect, Urmstongran, it was exactly what you inferred. He isn’t supported by Hugh Grant, he once played something loud somewhere at the request of HG. Which I also think is childish. Your remark was utterly childish. I don’t appreciate all the remarks constantly directed at anyone who isn’t a Tory, but we have to tolerate them in the name of democracy.

Shame on you ! To not vote means you have no appreciation for that right that many in other countries don’t have !

Please vote, I don’t care who for! Women sacrificed their lives to us this right AND if we don’t vote (anyone), we really do lose the right to complain. There must be one of the parties which meets the majority of your ethos and beliefs?

Yes gillgran disrespectful and extremely childish. I don't know who to vote for but it's unlikely to be Labour. I want a party of adults in government, not children.

In that case it’s unlikely to be Tory too? Have you seen the appalling way some of behave in parliament? Johnson, Rees Mogg to name just two!

Agreed. We have been subject to such negative politics for so long that it's hard to believe in change.
I suggest as time goes on not relying on headline soundbite news, but googling and looking into policy and press releases.

The D:Ream music being played so loudly was disgraceful and extremely juvenile. Not surprised really as this is the only way Labour behaves.

RS was absolutely drenched and then that awful music trying to drown him out but fortunately he just carried on. Had it been me I would have insisted I was not carrying on until the Police had stopped the music.

The music was nothing to do with Labour. Are you setting off the tory lie machine already?

I

It’s their flipping theme tune from when Blair was in. As my son said “they’re singing Things Can Only Get Better” but it didn’t. 🤣🤣

maddyone Wed 22-May-24 19:11:56

I’ve made a decision, I’m going to vote for the party that will stop the rain.

Yep, it was Tony Bliar’s New Labour theme tune

Cossy Wed 22-May-24 19:26:09

It doesn’t matter whose “theme tune” it’s attributed to, it was a lone, well known, Lib Dem protestor and absolutely nothing to do with the LP.

It was awful and very rude.

Will they stop the rain and bring out the sun?

Urmstongran Wed 22-May-24 19:28:43

Please don’t tell me what ‘I’m inferring’ Cossy. You’ve got me wrong.
And I’m not a Tory.
Embarrassing to say I voted for Blair in 1997.

Hey ho.
I’m voting Reform next. The electioneering (or any disruptive juvenile antics from Bray) will be white noise for the next five weeks.

I believe he chooses the most politically provocative pop song for every occasion, this one certainly got the attention he craves. I’ve got no objection in principle to protestors, but apparently he was playing this at 90 decibels, which is ridiculous..

Syracute Cossy Willow3. I know, I know. I am well aware of the importance of voting, and the consequences of not voting. And the sacrifices of so many who have given me the privilege of the vote. But isn't a vote for a person or party for whom I have absolutely no faith whatsoever just as much of a wasted vote. I shall be reading, watching, listening to everything relating to the coming election in the hope I can feel some hope to enable me to make a choice.

Oh well I shall be in sunny Jersey then blow the election

You have plenty of time to register for a postal vote. It's very easy or organise.

Urmstongran Wed 22-May-24 19:48:27

Oh dear things are not off to a good start for Labour …
Labour has been forced to take down a video launching its general election campaign after it was spoiled by a typo.

The short clip, posted shortly after Rishi Sunak called a national vote on July 4, contained the line “swich (sic) on GB Energy”, referring to Labour’s plan to create a new publicly owned energy company.

If you can’t make a choice spoil your ballot paper by writing ‘none of the above’ Marthjolly it sends a message that at least could be bothered to vote.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 22-May-24 19:54:43

You can always vote for your independent candidate if you really can’t vote for any of the others. Spoiling your ballot paper is just as bad as not voting.

I couldn't agree more Cossy. There is no excuse not to vote. There must be at least one or two policies of a party or independent candidate that strike a cord. Just imagine if everyone opted out. Would they step up and actually run the country? I doubt it.
