Trump has been found guilty on all 34 charges by a united jury!

Dickens Mon 03-Jun-24 17:13:31

He is vowing revenge, retaliation and retribution against his enemies.

He even suggested (according to the Guardian yesterday) that the FBI and justice department should take action against senators, judges, members of Biden’s family and even non-governmental organisations.

This is a man who once said that Hitler "did some very good things", calls his opponents vermin and says that immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country.

And some of his more 'ardent' supporters are calling for hangings, executions and civil war. It was in a reliable news outlet, I haven't researched it, but I'm sure it would not be that difficult to validate if anyone cares to research it.

Some of those Proud Boys and Patriots or whatever they call themselves are very hot-headed.

If Trump does not win the Presidency, he is not going to accept that he lost. It will be a 'deep-state' plot against him. I dread to think what might follow.

nanna8 Mon 03-Jun-24 10:03:48

It will be interesting if and when Trump is returned as President how the rest of the world would come to terms with it. A few different alliances I think. Maybe start learning Russian ! The Democrats have played into his hands, of course and it is not a good look for them.

foxie48 A few times when staying with friends their children have wanted to get into bed with us in the morning. This was back in the 70s. Being child free we weren't used to children coming into bed, plus we slept naked and we said no. It's quite possible that us saying no could have caused the children a few problems in later life! Who knows?

I agree re fathers changing nappies etc, even bathing with young daughters. Showering seems different somehow as the nakedness is displayed so prominently.

I have no idea if Biden behaved inappropriately with his daughter and make no assumptions. I do, however, find his filmed behaviour with children creepy. One incident involved a young girl he was grabbing and holding quite tightly and she looked extremely uncomfortable and quite distressed by it.

Why the people close to him allow him to carry on doing this I don’t know. It may be entirely innocent and he’s lacking awareness but it makes me uncomfortable.

My point, however, is the acceptance of such behaviour. If this was Trump there would be uproar. As I said upthread I’m no Trump supporter but the egregious bias and willingness to attack one man and turn a blind eye to another annoys me.

Looked up, why Democrats have chosen Biden.

Longish article but worth reading.

Fair enough Tickingbird I had not seen this, the previous Snopes did not verify it. I don't know if anything "inappropriate" happened and clearly neither does Ashley say it did. Just an observation though, people's attitudes to nudity are very different and we encourage fathers to care for their children. My husband did a lot of the intimate looking after of our daughter when she was little, it never occurred to us for one second that there was anything inappropriate about him changing nappies, helping with toileting, having her clamber into bed with us in the morning and seeing us get dressed. I don't think he ever had a shower with her but if he had it wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest. I suppose it's all about your views on these things and what you think is inappropriate. I do remember her having a friend to stay when she was about 6, she wanted to climb into our bed in the morning with friend but we said no. Not because anything inappropriate would have happened but because we though it was inappropriate for a child of 6 who was not our daughter to be in our bed.

Sparklefizz Sun 02-Jun-24 11:45:57

Is there nobody normal to run for president? Trump - well, no explanations needed there - and Biden who seems mentally unwell plus what’s with the hair sniffing, which I have seen for myself on film clips so it can’t be blamed on negative press.?

And not only “normal” but 20 years younger. There must be someone!

I’m not very good with links and had a bad fall yesterday and have really pulled my back so bear with me if I don’t respond for a while.

Out last night with friends who have close relatives living in the US. Relatives are very anxious about this election and genuinely concerned about a possible civil war. There are more guns in the US than people, it is an extremely dangerous mix with such polarised politics and someone like Trump in the running. He's been publicly humiliated by this trial and I think he will want revenge. Thinking about it, tbh it makes me rather worried too for the general stability of the world we live in, the US is very important in keeping some sort of power balance.

Well, it does make disturbing reading.

It must all be in the public domain. Even if all of it is true, I doubt it will make one iota of difference to those who are convinced he's going to save America, male or female.

He did once say that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose any voters. Though FACT CHECK has stressed that, although this "clumsy and crass" comment was actually made by Trump, it also generally appeared absent of its broader context, which pertained to the loyalty of his followers, and not an actual desire, intent, or interest in shooting any individuals for the sole reason that he believed it would have no effect on his popularity.

The loyalty of his followers is the pertinent point. So whether he's grabbing pussy-cats, making lewd comments about his daughter or other women- one might just as well not bother to highlight them because it will not deter his supporters. Who will insist it's all politically motivated, so therefore, can be ignored.

He's going to make America Great Again.

According to a soon-to-be-published book, Blowback: A Warning to Save Democracy From the Next Trump, the former president “regularly made lewd comments about his daughter Ivanka and fantasized about what it would be like to have sex with her.”

According to The New Republic, “’Aides said he talked about Ivanka Trump’s breasts, her backside and what it might be like to have sex with her, remarks that once led [former Chief of Staff] John Kelly to remind the president that Ivanka was his daughter,’ Taylor, who served as a Department of Homeland Security chief of staff under Trump, wrote in his book.”

Just as we can’t take at face value anything about Biden and his daughter, we can’t simply believe something similar about DT written by men with an agenda, just because we dislike him intensely.

This is true.

We need factual information that can be verified.

That link would not open for me - it didn't support Internet Explorer - fair enough, so I tried the recommended "Edge" and got the same message!

Trump supporters tend to be middle-aged or older. Forgive me for being so crass, but in California we don't see a lot of conventionally attractive young female Trump supporters--not a lot of his supporters whose genitals he would be interested in grabbing, in short.

The fact that Biden supporters are not in-your-face with bumper stickers and lawn signs may lead people to imagine that he has little support. He does, if only because many people don't approve of Trump's behavior, language, and threats, and the nonsense he spouts about Biden not being able to walk. or put a sentence together. Those claims are belied by Biden's recent State of the Union address.

Most of the time when I vote for a President I am essentially voting AGAINST the other guy--I'd vote for Noddy Holder if he was eligible and if he was the only other candidate running for President.

I have not read up on Schedule F, but I will. The election happens on my birthday this year. Will it be a happy Guy Fawkes day for me? I certainly do wonder if there will be violence if Trump isn't elected. I'm thinking "What a good time of the year to visit relatives in New Zealand!"

This stuff about Biden and his daughter is utter rubbish, it comes from an allegation that a diary stolen from his daughter Ashley contained this information. It doesn't but a meme has been circulated amongst Trump followers suggesting that it's true. It was thought to have been done to counter a comment made by Trump that he'd like to sleep with his daughter, which is well documented.

‘ If she wasn’t my daughter I’d be dating her’. That and many other Trump comments make my flesh crawl. How any woman can vote for him is beyond me sad

foxie48 don’t add to all the false stuff doing the rounds. For all his many many faults DT did not say he would like to sleep with his daughter!
He said exactly what Maybee70 said ‘if she wasn’t my daughter I’d be dating her’.

I had to look up ScheduleF - its an attempt to be able to replace what we call civill servants with political appointees.

I had to research it, too. It's alarming.

On a more basic note - I cannot understand any woman supporting a politician let alone a probable POTUS who has shown such contempt for their sex.

I saw a photo of a middle-aged woman wearing a T shirt at a Trump rally with the legend, "Mr Trump you can grab my pussy any time". Obviously, one has to be suspicious of such stuff online as photo's can be superimposed, faked, etc, so I did some research. You can actually buy similar T shirts online - though the one this particular woman was wearing looked home-made.

Such fun!

... obviously, I've still got a lot to learn about human nature...

Whilst not being a fan of Trump the glaring weaponisation of his misdemeanour into an offence potentially carrying a custodial sentence is truly disgraceful.

They’re out to get him because they’re terrified he’ll become president again.

His home was raided because he supposedly had classified documents there yet Biden had classified documents in his garage and that was glossed over.

Biden’s behaviour with very young girls is suspect to say the least and his own daughter has admitted to “taking showers with Dad (inappropriate)”. She feels she may have been sexually abused but doesn’t know who by. Imagine if this was Trump.

Love or hate the man, please show some objectivity.

It was an offence. The lawyer who originally paid off Stormy Daniels, from his own money, was eventually repaid out of campaign funds. Campaign funds come from donations by supporters. They are not allowed to be used for personal expenses unless associated with the campaign.

The following is taken from the Federal Election Committee

"Commission regulations provide a test, called the "irrespective test," to differentiate legitimate campaign and officeholder expenses from personal expenses. Under the "irrespective test," personal use is any use of funds in a campaign account of a candidate (or former candidate) to fulfill a commitment, obligation or expense of any person that would exist irrespective of the candidate’s campaign or responsibilities as a federal officeholder. "

I don't think that the payments for Stormy Daniels fall within this category.

It would be helpful if sometimes people got their facts correct.

More simply, if the expense would exist even in the absence of the candidacy or even if the officeholder were not in office, then the personal use ban applies.

Conversely, any expense that results from campaign or officeholder activity falls outside the personal use ban.

There were other things stolen that did belong to her, one was found guilty of transporting stolen goods and the other (Harris) was found guilty of theft. No evidence that the diary belonged to AB or that the entries in the diary were made by her.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 01-Jun-24 17:30:57

On Ashley’s Wikipedia page is states that two people have been found guilty of stealing her diary, one is in jail and one awaits sentencing…

foxie48 Sat 01-Jun-24 17:22:28

Tickingbird perhaps you'd like to provide evidence that the diary belongs to Ashley Biden and the allegations made are correct. Aimee Harris sold the diary to Project Veritas a right wing media group for $40,000, she had previously tried to sell it at a Trump fundraiser.
"Project Veritas has said Harris and Kurlander claimed they obtained the diary lawfully.
The group said it did not publish a story because it could not confirm the diary was authentic, and instead arranged for it to be sent to Florida law enforcement."
Reuters.

I had to look up ScheduleF - its an attempt to be able to replace what we call civill servants with political appointees.

"Three months before the end of his presidency, Donald Trump quietly issued Executive Order 13957, allowing the conversion of some federal civil service jobs to excepted service under a new classification, Schedule F.
If a position was reclassified, the president could fire its occupant at will and install a successor without going through the civil service hiring and placement process. Trump issued the order after years of complaining that a practically conspiratorial federal bureaucracy was obstructing his agenda.

His successor, President Joe Biden, rescinded the order two days after taking the oath of office in early 2021

"Many former Trump staffers and prominent supporters have echoed the theme.

Russ Vought, who led Trump’s Office of Management and Budget at the end of his presidency, has written that the federal bureaucracy currently carries out “the policy plans and preferences of a radical, supposedly ‘woke’ faction of the country,” and that the next president must show “boldness to bend or break the bureaucracy to the presidential will.”

In a recent TV interview, Sen. J.D. Vance (R–OH), rumored to be posturing for Trump’s vice president pick, was blunter: “If I was giving [him] one piece of advice, [it would be to] fire every single mid‐level bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state, [and] replace them with *our people*

Yes that is right. So bear in mind who is a civil servant in the USA - they include the security services amongst others.

It really is very worrying for people in the USA
