I’m beginning to wonder if someone on Sunak’s comms team is taking the pi**grin

Me too.
My husband said "do you think they vote Labour?"
grin

My DH is apoplectic when he sees this!

I remember having it drummed in which way to fly the Union flag, when I was a Brownie.

Me too

I wouldn't have noticed, it's the Media company they employ who sort this not the parties individually people, need to get a bit of a refund.

Amusing but not very important.

If you were a guide you would immediately know a distress signalšŸ˜„

I would take it as meant myself

*marketing

ronib - my point was that the marketin team were useless.
Obviously it's not his fault.

Why did someone think it was a good idea to plant people in hi-vis jackets or to visit the Titanic experience I wonder?

So did I, distress.
Pretty well sums things up!

I agree, many people won’t know but that’s not really the point is it - particularly from the party governing our country. I would imagine that for some people e.g. military personnel, it would be an important symbol. Particularly ironic, as flying it the wrong way round is a coded distress signal!

Of course, it’s not Sunak’s job to check this stuff - not saying it is! He’s surrounded by an entire team of aids and marketing people to make sure every little detail is correct. They’re supposed to check that daft photos, like the ones above, aren’t taken and that, if you’re going to proudly fly the country’s flag in your campaign video, it’s the right way round!

I think former Boy Scouts and girl Guides would notice. I have an 81 year-old friend whose knuckles go white every time he sees the flag wrongly flown; happens frequently.

I think there’s other things to worry about personally, it wouldn't be Richie’s job to check such things, the one assigned to the task obviously not up to the job, it’s not difficult to understand, probably same person who didn’t notice Mickey Mouse ears.. I would just make sure in future someone that does understand how things are done is employed, it doesn’t reflect on the leader however.

There’s a saying (US I believe)
ā€œDon’t sweat the small stuffā€

I’d bet 99% of the population would not have noticed and in the wider scheme of things….. ?

ronib Tue 04-Jun-24 06:31:14

I think there’s an over reaction here to fairly unimportant stuff. Rishi Sunak doesn’t have time to check every detail of the campaign so clearly someone else isn’t doing a good job.
At least Sunak doesn’t pretend….. he has always used helicopter travel presumably to save time in a very busy schedule.

NotSpaghetti Tue 04-Jun-24 06:15:24

Why are the marketing team so useless I wonder?
There are SO many errors in just a few days. Not just the rain-soaked announcement.

I think the mickey-mouse ears accident will stay with me!
And why go a stunt praising the railways into a helicopter?

I read this on Mumsnet and couldn’t quite believe it so I’ve done my research … and it’s true. The Conservative election broadcast shown this evening contains an image of the Union flag flying the wrong way round. According to a UK Armed Forces website, there is a right and a wrong way to fly the flag. When flown the wrong way it’s a coded distress sign. You couldn’t make this stuff upšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

That’s hilarious! I missed the broadcast so had to watch it just to see for myself. How embarrassing - am sure the opposition will have a field day with the coded distress signal! šŸ˜‚

I can never remember which is the right way up, but here it isšŸ˜€
If it's wrong way up it's a distress signal.
