While desperate for the silver vote, the Tories are not exactly respecting us!

Did you, like me, find the Tory approach to the pension tax debacles insulting, claiming we’d have to cope with ‘lots of paperwork’. Oh as a 71 yr I should be so scared of lots of paperwork - or so it was implied. The tone was exceptional - obviously their elderly parents are not tech literate as so many of us are!
Now Sunak has decided that the silver voters wont’t see his behaviour in France on June 6th as disrespectful - because he said sorry…and that makes everything OK ..or did it??
The silver vote is immensely important to the Tories but I think they are taking it for granted. They assume the maturer voters will never vote Labour - unless they are those boring liberals. But for those who are true blue, do you really feel treated with respect??

I can't see why the maturer voters wouldn't vote Labour.
Many of them will have voted Labour in the past so why not now?
Perhaps Tory politicians only mix with the true-blue older people, so they have no idea about the general public.

I feel disrespected by all political parties, at present.

There are many older people that are scared of lots of paper work, when new incentives are announced, cashless society, no paper train tickets, online banking etc there is an out cry of how will the older population manage so it seems you can’t win whatever your view.

When I was at a grammar school in the 50s a lot of our teachers (especially the history teachers) were very left wing and a lot of their ideas are still implanted in my brain. I don't think it's a given that we'll all be voting Tory by any means.

It is good to see the tories behaving so badly at the moment!

!Sunak was supposed to be the PM representing Britain in France, not putting his electioneering first. Such disgraceful behaviour cannot be passed off with just sorry. But it also shows that even his advisers did not stop him and tell him it would be insulting to leave early.,
what does that tell you about their selfish and selfcentred attitude? When the King , despite coping with treatment, still made the effort to go, it was infuriating to not see the prime minister representing the british people. His party did not matter there. He was not representing just his party but all of us.
There are quite a few people who seem to have very short memories, so it is good to see the present disgraceful behaviour and attitude of Johnson et all , which should help people to remember just what this government, who think they can make rules that dont apply to them ,and to lie and cheat have done so far.
Promising jam tomorrow when we have definitely not had jam yesterday or today will not wash and thinking that we are stupid enough to believe their "promises" is both arrogant and stupid. Whatever they promise to older people now, will not compensate us for the pensions that have been put back and back, or the idea that they will now put the pension up but keep the tax threshold as it was. My hair may be white but my brain still works well and I have run communications systems and am quite capable of reading through paperwork (and also correcting the poor grammar and unclear sentences!) I was a redhead and I do not take kindly to be talked down to or insulted, Have always voted , which I personally think that we all should do, and especially women. If you dont vote I dont think you can complain about the government you get. Well I will definitely be voting and shall be putting in my two pennorth at meetings etc. I shall study seriously what the various parties are putting forward, go to local meetings where I can contribute and ask questions, but wont be watching annoying election programmes on tv , where it is either tit for tat, just being determined to just say what they want to and not answer any questions put to them. They just raise the blood pressure.
So that is my take at the moment and hope that there is a dry day on voting day to encourage everyone to vote. Hurrah for Gransnet where I can read interesting messages and add my comments.
