What on earth is it with the Tories!?

Yesterday we had the bizarre interview with the Tory chairman who answered completely different questions asked by th3 Sky reporter, who in the end gave up and stopped the interview.

Cleverly was just on BBC answering questions getting an easy ride for a few minutes, then he was asked a challenging question about how on earth they were going to pay for their proposed spend and he answered with waffle, then was challenged again and he said

“Sorry have to go I’m late for another appointment”

And he went😄😄😼

Countries like Germany (just checked) keep records of failed asylum seekers but how much sharing is done or how effective it is I don't know.

ronib Mon 17-Jun-24 11:04:10

How does any official know what the first country is that an asylum seeker has approached for asylum? As opposed to just landing there. Is there a world wide computerised process/databank?

Wyllow3 Sun 16-Jun-24 14:16:49

Thank you MaizieD

Let's be clear its now the first country they claim asylum in not the first country they arrive in

Cossy Sun 16-Jun-24 14:15:58

ANY not AMY!

Cossy Sun 16-Jun-24 14:15:35

You can google bits and pieces of Reform policy. Economically they make little sense, he is relying on the migrant issue. On that, it includes the promise that the navy will turn boats back, I'd like to hear Navy comments on this!
The immigrants are supposed to remain in the first safe country that they land in. As France is pushing them back to Italy why can't the Uk push them back to France? The taxpayer cannot afford anymore soongers.“

You are misinformed, actually on all counts!

Asylum Seekers, under International law can seek Asylum in AMY country of their own choosing.

Asylum Seekers have no recourse to publics fund or right to work until such time as they have their claims processed. They received a small allowance via the govt from the Foreign Aid.

Over 45% of people claiming benefits between the ages of 18-66 are actually in work, state pension is also counted as a benefit, do you consider Pensioners “spongers” Horrible appalling word to describe unwell and disabled people!!

After all this time and having it explained so often out come the same idiocies. â˜č

According to international law asylum seekers are not obliged to stay in the first 'safe country' they reach.

We used to be part of an EU wide agreement on asylum seekers under which we could return them to the safe country they had travelled from to the UK, but since the idiotic decision was made to leave the EU, the UK is no longer party to that agreement and is bound by international law.

Of course, many of the headbangers who voted to leave the EU don't understand the concept of 'international law' or see any reason why the UK should comply with it, but, unfortunately for them the UK is no longer in a position to do exactly what it wants in the world. That died decades ago with the British Empire.

They're a the same. Never seem to pick up on the actual points in a question. All seem to have a stock answer no matter what is actually being asked.

Can't understand why so many are out of work and we need more immigrants to fill job vacancies. When I've been out of work I've taken agency jobs like cleaning a pub, making cardboard boxes in a factory, casual waitress for banquets, washing up in a cafe etc. As long as it put food on the table and paid my bills and mortgage I didn't care. When I got a job that I was qualified for things improved but I've never claimed state benefits.
People should be made to take any job offered regardless of whether it's their trade or not. That's how it was years ago. You went to the Labour Exchange and were sent on a job where they needed workers.

Job centres do try and do this but unfortunately, unlike the old days, we cannot “match” people then call the employer and arrange an interview. Majority of jobs are now online applications

Some jobs may be suitable for just anyone but for example a shortage of ÂŁ30.000 care workers can't be filled with anyone unsuitable. The job rates are so low that it wouldn't cover someone moving to anywhere but a cheap area and if there are dependants would rely on benefit top ups.

Labour has pledged to raise Care Workers wages to ÂŁ15 an hour.

Wyllow3 Sat 15-Jun-24 18:49:11

To clarify muddled last sentence:

Help for Heroes sent out demands to all parties "what will you do" and shows the response. Ie Conservatives were responding to a call from them in issuing their policy, and so have Labour and Lib Dems.

Note: Help for Heros are asking for additional support from what all parties have offered.

Wyllow3 Sat 15-Jun-24 18:45:10

Labour has responded on the Veterans issue by asking key questions about failures of the current government to help veterans as they had in fact promised (pretty substantial promises failed:

However the Help for Heros website does reveal what :

The Independent is reporting that Farage has apparently cancelled his BBC Panorama interview with Nick Robinson.

I imagine he has flea bites from the Nazi appeasing dogs he’s whistled up.

It depends where you're talking about. In my district, the percentage of people claiming unemployment-related benefits is very low. Most of the claimants aren't long-term unemployed. Small businesses, such as shops and cafes, are forever complaining that they can't get staff. We "import" people from neighbouring districts, where housing is cheaper, but that means people have to have their own transport because public transport is dire. There are many areas where the opposite is true. Housing might be cheap, but unemployment is high and opportunities are few.

Why is it mean to try and sort out the welfare state? There are genuine people who deserve taxpayers help but there are far too many who don’t intend working for a living. We require legal immigration due to not having enough of our own people willing to do minimum wage jobs but they can get top ups from universal credit if they are not earning enough so let’s try and stop people having a free life. It’s NOT unfair for a government (and I hope Labour would agree) to try and stop wasting taxpayers money

Out of those claiming benefits, at least 45% are in low paid jobs, a further percentage are too ill or disabled to work, then we have those born with severe learning diffs, then we those temporarily out of work, finally, the very smallest percentage made up from those “fiddling” the system and those willing to accept a very substandard of living in return for doing nothing. Like benefit fraud, it really is a small percentage of people, even though people and the media and even certain govts would have you believe otherwise. Like the awful televised “benefit street”, this certainly did not represent most people on welfare benefits.

Thank you Lizziedrip for the link to the Guardian article about food banks. It tells you all you need to know about the state of this prosperous nation - a nation where the government has allowed millions of children to go hungry, to have to wear the same dirty clothes again and again, to take turns to wear shoes with other family members. What is a government for if not to care for our children and families in poverty? Lizzie I am copying and pasting your link, as it is such an important article. www.theguardian.com/politics/ng-interactive/2024/jun/11/how-britain-became-a-food-bank-nation?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

I hear that the Conservatives pledge to help veterans but Labour don’t even mention them.

Are you aware that there is actually shedloads of help already, both from the govt and the numerous charities?

It’s something that those hating migrants like to perpetuate, “look at all the homeless, helpless veteran and we are housing and clothing and feeding the *illegals‱”
