I didn’t realise it would be this early.

Blimey.

The starter gun has been fired.

DiamondLily Fri 21-Jun-24 07:53:29

My acknowledgement card said that the actual papers would be sent out next Monday.

I haven't received mine yet either, so I'm rather relieved to discover that it isn't just me! Usually I vote in person, but will be away for this one.

I am staying at my DH’s home in France for a month. Great excitement yesterday teatime: he emptied the mailbox and I’m delighted to discover that Torbay Council has fulfilled my request for a postal vote to be sent over here! I’ve voted and we shall post it today in the SAE provided! Brilliant!

I hope everyone else receives theirs on time! 🤞

Nor mine.

Grantanow Wed 19-Jun-24 08:59:40

My postal vote hasn't arrived yet.

ginny Tue 18-Jun-24 16:00:43

I can understand that winterwhite.😀
Bit of a waste of money to send an email and a letter of acknowledgment .
Fingers crossed we can get the votes back in time.

winterwhite Tue 18-Jun-24 15:05:57

Ginny, when you think, the preparation and printing of the ballot slips is a major operation that obvs can’t start until after the closing date for nominations. Then they have to be
typeset and printed with extreme care - no errors and no over- or under-printing.
But I think the closing date for return is polling day itself so with luck you’ll be OK. Have a good holiday 🌻

ginny Tue 18-Jun-24 14:12:17

We applied for a postal vote this year as we will be away from home on polling day. We had the acknowledgment letter.
We are now en route to our holiday and no voting papers have arrived.
Hopefully one of our DDs can post them to us when they arrive and we will be able to post them back in time. Why they couldn’t just post them earlier instead of sending an acknowledgment in the post. We already had an email acknowledgment.

My husband was asked to provide proof of his last British place of residence so he could vote in your elections. Seeing as how he hasn’t lived there for 50 years, he declined. One less vote for Nige.

Wyllow3 Tue 18-Jun-24 12:18:14

Not arrived yet, should I be worried?

rosie1959 Tue 18-Jun-24 11:31:51

I received mine this morning as we are on holiday polling day. Now just where to stick my x
I get the feeling from the candidates put forward that Labour don’t think they have a hope in hell of winning here they have selected a candidate that doesn’t even live in the area. They live in a city far removed from the demographic of this mainly rural farming constituency

Our postal vote forms aren't here yet.

henetha Tue 18-Jun-24 00:01:21

I like going to the polling station and standing in the little booth with my voting paper and pencil. That's when I get my gut feeling about who I should vote for.

no, i'm going to take it to a polling station in the constituency.
that is within the rules, and that is what i'm going to do.

That’s fine, it just means filling in the form each time though.

welbeck Mon 17-Jun-24 21:21:23

getting the letter is to reassure you that you are on the current electoral roll, and have registered to receive a postal ballot, which will be sent to you shortly.
if you were not on the roll, or not sure, there are a couple of days to register to vote, if you hurry.
i saw a sign about this aimed at students today.

Pittcity Mon 17-Jun-24 21:19:08

I'd vote for Count Binface if I lived in Sunak's constituency.

Bumface Mon 17-Jun-24 21:16:14

I agree we should cherish our hard won right to vote and get out there and vote.

The only trouble is, I really don't like any of them so it will have to be the least of evils.

Pittcity Mon 17-Jun-24 21:08:26

Ours have been posted.

I don't understand why we get a letter saying that our postal vote is on its way. Same as when you get an NHS letter saying that a Bowel Cancer Test is being sent to you. Such a waste of money.

welbeck Mon 17-Jun-24 20:50:22

i think i'll do belt and braces again; take my postal ballot and hand it in at any polling station.
i had to fill in a form last time, but not sure if that was because i was also delivering someone else's postal vote.
that won't apply now, sadly. she died.

Yes, you always have to fill in a form now if you hand in any postal vote.

Just post it, no point having a postal vote if you still go to the polling station.

🤷‍♀️

Dinahmo Mon 17-Jun-24 19:04:46

My proxies are in the States at the moment. With a bit of luck they sent the proxy before they went. If not they will be back, just in time to get it in

Tizliz Mon 17-Jun-24 18:43:46

We had a letter saying the postal vote papers will be sent out next week - waste of money or a reassurance that we haven't been forgotten?

I’m glad there’s the option of postal voting, but I do always like voting in person - the little booth, the stubby pencil on a piece of string, X in the box….

And I’m really glad we don’t have electronic voting, like they do in the US - I don’t think I’d trust it to be hack-proof. Plus, from all I gather from sister in the US, polling stations are proportionately quite a lot fewer compared to population numbers - presumably because of the cost of the equipment - so there are often really long queues and people having to wait for an hour or more.
I don’t know about anybody else, but we’ve never had to queue to vote.

Mamardoit Mon 17-Jun-24 16:45:49

We will go in person to vote. I'm still undecided and I don't like the idea of voting early. .
