Has died, aged 88.

Star of so many good films.

Wonderful actor, so sad to hear he has died. When Kate Bush asked him to be in the Cloud Busting video he was apparently amazed and delighted as he had just finished Peter Reich's memoir and had a copy tucked into his jacket pocket.

Great actor, so many good films.

I meant The Railway Man( I’d never heard of it prior to seeing it on tv; to be honest I think I watched it mainly out of being in awe of how amazing Julie’s Christie still looked).I’ve never liked Don’t Look Now.

I loved Don’t Look Now with DS and Julie Christie.

Recently the film The Railway Station Man was on TV starring DS and Julie Christie again. She is a widow living in a remote part of Ireland and he is a disabled American who moves to the disused local railway station. It is 🔥HOT 🔥 towards the end. I had never heard of it before.

It was on tv recently wasn’t it? I came upon it whilst channel hopping one night and couldn’t stop watching it.

Well I tried to watch it but it's not for me. I'm afraid that DS creeps me out so much, I'd forgotten how much! He looks sinister even when he's smiling. Thankfully I didn't reach the hot ending. 🙈

A decent man by all accounts, and a great actor. I loved the twinkle in his eye

You knew if he was in it it would be a decent film. Such a good actor.

A serious actor for sure, my best memories are of Odd Ball in Kelly’s Heroes

A great actor. RIP.

I was recently watching a re-run of Pride and Prejudice and really enjoying his interpretation of Mr Bennet.

Such a talented and enigmatic actor.

It's a sad feeling when the stars of your own era die, inevitable though it is.

RIP Mr Sutherland.

A marvellous actor. I watched him just last week in The Burnt Orange Heresy.

Don't Look Now! such a great film, one of my favourites and most memorable.

A long career especially of late.

RIP Donald Sutherland.

I loved that film and I loved him as sinister President Snow in The Hunger Games

Glorianny Thu 20-Jun-24 20:18:45

We were talking about him and "Don't Look Now" on Saturday. A great actor who aged so well. One of my long term crushes from Mash to The Hunger Games. RIP Hawkeye

Calendargirl Thu 20-Jun-24 20:16:20

I have recently read ‘Ordinary People’ the book on which the film was based, starring him and Mary Tyler Moore.

Think it won some Oscars back in the day, but don’t think DS ever won a best actor one.

Kelly’s Heroes Oddball.

He was great in that. One of my son's favourite films. As a child, he could sit and almost recite the whole thing word for word.

flappergirl Thu 20-Jun-24 19:51:11

I'm so sorry to hear this. One of my favourite actors and very much a part of 1970's culture. RIP Donald.

Anniebach Thu 20-Jun-24 19:48:36
