And the U.K. is so much the poorer for it, both economically and socially.

The "art installation" is from 2016.

Does the reality match the doom and gloom of the prediction?

Hmm, let me think.
No 😄

Thanks Callistemon213
I’ll try the Waitrose ones- they’re only £2 per packet but we don’t have one anywhere near us.
Tesco do a version too, though I’ve never seen them in our local Tesco.
It’s the £5.99 + £1 delivery that stops me buying them from Amazon.

Callistemon213 Sun 30-Jun-24 09:38:22

Yes, I'd never heard of that make but had tried other versions which were okish.

Those biscottes are yummy, Mollygo, so crunchy and buttery. Never seen them here, ever.

Available on Amazon.

Waitrose do a version but not that make, called Jacquet Toast Francais, might be worth a try.

They're really dry. The Heudebert ones are more crumbly with a raised surface, if you get what I mean?!

I think many farmers would enjoy a big whopper.

Looks like the one DGD had last night in the pub, Joseann, made from local beef 🙂 and it arrived looking very stylish with its accompaniments.

What annoys me is that the ‘give us our country back’ posters that many farmers put up in their fields encouraged others to vote leave. Even though their own union had advised them to vote remain.

Thanks Callistemon.
roughly 60 percent of farmers were in favour of Brexit bears out what I said earlier..l

Mollygo Sun 30-Jun-24 09:12:25

When we come back from France, I always bring packets of Heudebert Biscottes, so useful for a quick snack and the goûte brioche ones are a less fattening way than scones, to eat with jam and clotted cream.
I asked Booths why they didn’t stock them, and they said it was because of Brexit. That’s funny, because we’ve lived here over 40 years and they’ve never stocked them.

The good news for British producers is that we get so many different sorts of UK Brie type cheeses rather than importing.

Yes!
And the great 🐟 and 🍟 .

Callistemon213 Sun 30-Jun-24 08:56:01

Rosbif and Yorkshire pudding, Joseann 🙂

Joseann Sun 30-Jun-24 08:54:12

No, I get the message MaizieD.
Yes, I might be a food snob, but was just wondering why baked beans were chosen when they are actually native American cuisine. 🇺🇸 There's far better British examples on the 🇬🇧 shelf as I tried to illustrate.
Anyway, I've just unloaded a car full of 🇫🇷 loot from the other collection the picture shows, so I'm OK. 😋 😋

Whitewavemark2 Sun 30-Jun-24 08:46:29

Sorry

I’ll start again

The piece entitled “Brexit” can be viewed in the New York Museum of Modern Art.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 30-Jun-24 08:45:04

I should have added that the installation can be seen in the New York Art

Callistemon213 Sun 30-Jun-24 08:42:52

I get what the artist is trying to say but it's the artist who is missing the point, I think.

Or the point he/she is making is just plain daft.

Being snobbish there aren’t you?

I don't see that at all.

It's just contrasting the abundance in the EU with the lack of it in the UK post Brexit.

I'm puzzled as to why that should be thought 'snobbish'.

Snobbish because baked beans are hardly haute cuisine?!

You should see the 🇬🇧 shelf here in the local French supermarket.
Marmite
Bisto
Tea bags
Digestive biscuits
Branston pickle
Pickled onions
Hellmann's mayonnaise
Orange squash

🤣 🤣

I think that list just makes you a food snob, Joseann. 😆

Though, I may, of course, be as completely missing your interpretation of 'baked beans', as I think the indignant responses to the 'installation' are missing the artist's message...hmm

Truddles Sun 30-Jun-24 04:50:29

I cried my eyes out. I was glad Trump was then voted in as president of the USA, just because the U.K. then became only the second most stupid nation on the planet. I was very fortunate (and determined) to be able to leave. I did this two years ago, and my daughter and son-in-law and grandchildren have followed me. I feel blessed.

Joseann Fri 28-Jun-24 10:40:40

And as for the rule about not taking foods abroad, we brought 24kgs of dog food visible in the car!

Oh yes, nothing available in the shops.

I buy British if I can.
And Australian and New Zealand wines.
DH is partial to a drop of whisky made in Scotland.

The only thing in this installation that I do not buy is Baked Beans.

The rest is available in the U.K. admittedly not all the brands but there are many other brands of the pictured goods readily available.

So many wonderful and regional foods are produced in the UK, Whitewave. You have mentioned before the brand of butter you buy and I remember because I live not far from that farm, that's just once small instance.

The attempt at irony is not lost on me but it is meaningless because the thinking behind it is ridiculous.

I voted Remain btw
