This morning I saw an old friend. She was moaning because “Brexit has ruined my life”. She says she was only allowed to stay 90 days in The Netherlands. She goes in her campervan.

My son was with me and said “it’s well off old hippies like her who didn’t want Brexit.” She is 60 doesn’t work, owns a cottage by the sea here and rents out her other house in London.
It’s a tough old life.😝

Obviously life was better for your friend before Brexit with freedom of movement. Surely we all want the best life we can have and why not?

Some of us manage to achieve that and others don't. Politics of envy perhaps?

At the moment I'm envious of those who can travel as and when they wish. My DH and I are both suffering from intermittent health problems and so cannot plan a holiday. The last time we went away was pre-covid. I had planned a trip to Marseilles but had to cancel because of our health and I'm a bit pissed off about that.

However the bar our village has just reopened and we sat outside with a cold beer listening to the river and it was just like being on holiday so I am grateful.

He is generalising. 52 isn't old nor did all older people vote to leave.

I really doubt that is true.

As the vote was so close it’s not surprising there was so much angst from Remainers. When there was a vote for women bishops I think the majority had to be a certain amount and the first vote failed. If D Cameron had thought things through Brexit would not have happened as the vote was too close.

And how exactly has Brexit improved things for our fishermen? The instigator of Brexit was supposed to represent them in Brussels but didn’t bother to turn up most of the time. So if things haven’t changed and it’s cost the economy billions what was the point of it?

Regarding the definition of 'sovereignty'. I refer anyone unsure, to consult their dictionary and also to 'google' / 'wiki' the word. Afterwards, I'd ask them to re-read my 3rd&4th sentence of my o.p. again.
Here in the UK we aren't Mainland Europe. This island- as similar to the island of Ireland - has its own set of unique circumstances. Eg - for the UK- I believe the fishing rights are more important to the citizens of theUK, that the fishing rights are to the citizens of France or Germany. I believe every country should be able to be totally self-governed by the people who live there.

( Not very much In My Opinion. The country has always reflected what happened elsewhere in the whole world.
IMO the U.K. was not "the land of Milk&Honey " before the Referendum
(but probably still is, & still a 'gravy train' - for those employed in those 'Ivory towers' in Brussels & Strasbourg! ) - anymore than it's since become "the land of Milk etc"- now.
Let's contact our MP's to ask them, how things have changed - plus the reasons for that change for the better or- for the worse.
And why we should vote for their
Party next week in the same way as we did in the last General Election.

I have noticed that some on the right of the political spectrum are more humourless and somewhat frightened of change. It has been my observation over the years that they have a more narrow view of the world than any centrist or left of centre person.

Those who promoted Brexit, by creating a fear factor, thought they could make the most gains from being separated from the EU. I really don't think many gave a damn about what would happen to the country as a whole.

When Rees-Mogg was Minister for Brexit Opportunities under the Buffoon I don't recall his finding any. It's been a complete disaster.

Just to add to the farming discussion, from a purely personal viewpoint, I witnessed our French pig farmer friend being given a big grant to update all his buildings and equipment from the EU coffers. At the same time in Devon pig farms were shutting down because they couldn't afford to update their machinery in order to meet the regulations. The sausage wars were unfair in France's favour on many levels.

In fairness there are UK grants for upgrading environmental systems but the cost is still very high, the level of attention from Environment Agency and Animal Welfare Groups is high also.

Much of the Pig and Poultry industry is integrated, Livestock, Feeding, Processing and Marketing is controlled by one
company, the farmer is a contractor. Whatever you produce unless you have a branded premium product to sell the outlook is very poor. Producers in other countries don’t have the regulations, they have a big advantage

What I find amusing is the belief that all those who voted to Remain are lefties.

You will find some of the most ardent Brexiters in that demographic!

The once high profile (late) Tony Benn - reviled by some and admired by others because of his commitment to socialism - was adamant in his opposition to our membership in the EU.

The International Business Times has compiled a list of Conservative MPS - usually considered to be on the right - who voted to Remain. The list is as long as your arm - have a look!

Many are now putting the maximum into environmental schemes, there is going to be a lot more imported food, so food miles and traceability go out of the window. Together with restrictions on the fertilizers and chemicals that can be used food production is likely to fall by 30%

I live in a farming county, and also lived in a farming region of France.
Most Devon farmers I know are pleased they are out of the CAP because we are now able to set our own agricultural rules, as well as our import tarifs.
What we now need to do now in the UK is to take more advantage of those freedoms.
Meanwhile, in France, French farmers recieve around 20% of the total paid out in the year, and always have had the lion's share. I think it's around 20%, with Germany close behind. The UK received a miserable amount in comparison. My French farming friends, who have a pig farming Brittany say that subsidies account for nearly a third of income on French farms.

It did always seem that France and Germany ran the EU as if it was their own private golf club.
No wonder British farmers wanted to leave the bloc.
The hope is, yes, that the UK will take full advantage of the freedoms.Brexit is used as an excuse for anything that goes wrong, even energy bills, it makes me laugh.
