A well conducted interview with these two candidates for President. Much, much better than any interviews our mob put on here. The future of America is in one of their hands. God help them. Both slagging each other off on a personal level, one of them lost the plot half way in and both lying through their teeth. Starmer and Sunak are a couple of pleasant, courteous gentlemen compared with them.
He's a team player in a way that Trump cannot ever be.
Biden has a good advisory cabinet.
I check in on CNN quite a lot about alternative democratic candidate. There are several - but currently agree to keep Biden.
It's interesting to note that reservations about Biden are about his age, not about his record as president, which has been stable and reasonably successful. Perhaps they feel its wiser not to present someone new given the state of affairs.
Americans voting for Biden are not necessarily wanting Biden to be their president. Their vote for Biden is a vote against Trump. Biden is the only candidate that can possibly get more votes than Trump. They will vote for anyone who has a chance of beating Trump. Anyone. (Newsom can't get more votes than Trump, yet.)
Syracute, I’m pretty sure that most people on gransnet want a Democrat President in America and were relieved when Biden beat Trump in the last election. But he just seems too physically frail to be President for another four years. I actually thought that we would never see Trump again and the thought of him being President again horrifies me. It’s the stuff of nightmares. Do you ever look at the Brandon Webber Facebook page?I’ve been following it for years.

For America to decide
But it will affect us all.
For America to decide
Sorry posted too soon. Surely the US have better than these two?
I don't believe either Trump or Biden are compos mentis. Trump is unstable and dillusional. Biden appears to be slipping into senility. I don't think either are fit to be president. Surely the US

Watch it yourself and you will know what I mean. He just wasn’t with it. I watched all of it, live, because their Timezone fits ours.
I have seen parts of it but still don’t know what you’re implying.
The Russians and Chinese must be rubbing their hands with glee. Americans think they have the best country in the world and can force their culture on the rest of us. However, right now the country is a laughing stock. Are these two contenders the best the country can come up with?
I didn't watch it, but have watched some highlights.
Biden was not able to discern between covid and Medicaid, an important subject for many Americans, struggling to speak the right words, the shuffling, the mini sleep he appeared to have, inability to continue. So I have my ideas, but whatever , he should be advised to step down, as the situation will only get worse. If he carries on, who will really be pulling his strings, a very worryng situation for the world, and especially America.
Jill Biden has not seemed to come across as the kind of First Lady to push herself to the forefront as some have. She's always been there, supporting her husband but she's not a Jackie Kennedy although I am sure she has fulfilled the rôle well.
Should the unelected spouses of the POTUS have such power and influence anyway?
I wouldn't be encouraging my husband to stand for President again either as he does not seem fit and able. He'd be 86 at the end of another term if he succeeds.
Ok chestnut - got it 😁

I agree with your point Annie.
Chestnut - I find your viewpoint cold, critical, negative and extreme, based on what?
It was a bit tongue in cheek! Based on the fact that a loving wife would put her husband's health first. 🤨
In the past elderly, frail and even allegedly alcoholic Prime Ministers (in U.K.) were elected because they did not have to “perform” and look good on TV, or be under constant media scrutiny. They still managed to do the job.
It seems to me some unsuitable leaders are elected now, because they are good performers and appeal to our shallow “celebrity” culture. I can bring to mind some.
I agree with your point Annie.

The woman did what politicians wives do in public , president of USA and it’s up to his wife to tell him to retire ?
Iam64 I don’t think it’s her job but if mr I had been so frail I’d have been wanting to encourage him to resign so we could enjoy what was left of our lives together
Maybe she is trying to finish him off. Keep pushing him until he drops. And maybe the First Lady gets some kind of generous compensation package (insurance) if her husband dies while in office. Otherwise, as you say any normal wife would put her husband's health before his (or her) ambitions.
Yes- best case scenario would be for both to step down and support younger candidates. Fingers crossed. I don’t think Trump will step down but Biden could be an ‘advisor’or whatever to a younger candidate. I think they would win easily if they did that .
Iam I agree that if my husband was that frail I’d try to advise him to step down, and in my very humble opinion that’s what Jill Biden should do. It has been said that she enjoys being First Lady and that she encourages him to stay in role. I don’t know about that but she really does need to try to persuade him to step down. Mind you, if Biden is stubborn (like my dear husband who is a lovely man but extremely stubborn) then she will be on to a hiding to nothing.
I was so very embarrassed for them both.these men are needing to step down and let others try for presidency otherwise we’ll all be heading for a 3rd world war 😱😱😱
The world press disagrees with you Syracute. If the Democrats want to beat Trump, which obviously they (and the rest of the world) hope they do, then they need another candidate pronto.
It's sad and embarrassing and intrusive to watch Biden being treated like a toddler by his wife, and for every comment being made about him, we can imagine the thoughts in Putin's mind.
Anniebach makes a point about whether Jill Biden is, or should be responsible for persuading Biden to stand down. My initial response is it’s his choice and not her responsibility. On reflection her patronising well done you answered every question did put her in the role of carer, she reminded me of the way we praised our 5 year old grandson for remembering and delivering his one sentence on stage at school
I don’t think it’s her job but if mr I had been so frail I’d have been wanting to encourage him to resign so we could enjoy what was left of our lives together
