Yes I’m concerned, especially as I’ve heard a few commentators saying Blair and his institute are advising/guiding KS.
Blair damaged the UK irreparably and shouldn’t be anywhere near government.

I’d like to feel optimistic that things will improve I really would - I was pleased Blair got in in 97, but this feels different some how?
I’m kind of dreading the next - god knows how many years - under Labour.
Oh well.

So many of the new MP's have minority votes (more people voted against them , than voted for them). Really is about time for a proper proportional representation, single transferrable vote system,
I find it a little strange that just a two percent increase in the Labour Party vote turns from what was in 2019 a Disaster, to an incredible victory.
I feel the same. The whole system needs a shake up and it is about power. I'm sure there are some good MPs out there as our neighbouring borough has a particularly good one who is very proactive, very visible and seems to actually care but I can't say the same for all of them and voting for the party line stuff is absolute nonsense - they should vote for their constituents
Sparklefizz the idea of 16 years olds voting horrifies me. They’re still at school or college in the majority of cases. The vast majority don’t work, earn any money or pay taxes, they can’t drive, they can’t go to prison if they commit a crime, they can’t fight in a war, they can’t get married without parental consent. Not that I think they should be allowed to do any of those things, but if they can’t do those adult things, why should they be considered adult enough to vote? Apparently the girls who went to Syria to join ISIS were children, but suddenly they’re not children where voting is concerned.
Double standards!
But we seemed to be in a political rut and needed different people with different ideas in charge.
That's ok if you like the new ideas - votes for 16 year olds, etc etc
Franbern you are so right. Two percent! It’s nothing. I haven’t believed that first past the post is a democratic or fair system for years. But the two main parties like it because it gives them complete power. Unfortunately power corrupts.

No.
It was time for a change.
Of course there will be plenty to criticise and grumble about in the next few years and it would be strange if there is not.

Scaremongering.
What evidence for "when it becomes apparent that we’ve got a Corbyn inspired government, but by then it will be too late."
or
"One thing I do know for sure is that Labour will come after everyone who is reasonably comfortably off, who has a nice home in a good area, as well of course as the very wealthy."In a former life Starmer was a member of Socialist Alternatives, a magazine for the International Revolutionary Marxist Tendency, he denounced the use of "paramilitary policing", and questioned the role of the police in civil society.
Peter Hitchins, himself an ex Trotskyist does an eye opening talk on the case against Labour and Keir Starmer.
Let's see shall we.Crikey, somebody has been reading Conspiracy Theories for Beginners.
Not reading at all, listening. Just because you close your ears to all but Starmer. Let's see shall we .
I don’t though Freya, I’m not blind to his faults. I do know though that only somebody who hadn’t paid any attention to what he has done to transform the Labour Party, and how many on the left he has alienated (witness the number of independent former Labour candidates being elected) could possibly suggest something as off beam as you did.

Here the popular local LD candidate overturned a 22000 Tory majority, well done.
Nationally I’m surprised the increase in vote to Labour was so low, only a 1 or 2% swing. It’s the headbangers who voted Reform that sunk the Tory vote, it’s scary that the Tories are not hard line enough for them.
SNP who campaigned on an independant Scottish Nation totally rejected, so that settles that issue for a while.
Independence was only one of the issues SNP campaigned on, along with opposing spending cuts, increasing NHS funding, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, and rejoining the EU.
At the last election they gained many votes from people who wanted Tories out, and SNP were the best alternative, so when the polls were all in Labour’s favour they could all return to them. I am disappointed in just how much of a massacre it was, but I didn’t really expect anything else, especially after their financial problems, which were well reported.

I do have some sympathy for Sunak. He is being blamed for his party's disastrous result but the real culprits were Johnson and Truss.
Yes, they are. Plus Cameron for calling the referendum although it was on Labour's manifesto too years ago, I think.
I think Sunak is basically a decent man but perhaps not suited to being PM.
Well done Labour. Best of luck.
Nice to see Nigel Farage finally becoming an MP though. MP’s question time will certainly be interesting! 😄

I've become increasingly despairing over the last 14 years of chaotic and corrupt Conservative rule. Nothing can be as dreadful as these last 14 years.

Yes, Sunak is being blamed for more than fair share.
"I've become increasingly despairing over the last 14 years of chaotic and corrupt Conservative rule. Nothing can be as dreadful as these last 14 years." And the way they've run the elections was to try and increase the despair/hopelessness, few positives.
I also have sympathy for the Labour Party which has been left with this absolute mess to clear up.

I’m beginning to panic - 😳 worried it isn’t going to happen☹️☹️”
Oh WW I’m the same. Just can’t wait for the polls to close and we get the exit polls - but even they can be wrong!
Our Labour hearts have been broken so many times…
I feel similar. I'm fairly confident, but I won't be cracking open the champagne (alcohol free, unfortunately) until it's a done deal. I well remember the Kinnock debacle.

I really would not worry Whitewave it's pretty much a done deal if Labour don't win this election they never will.
Never voted Labour in my life but wish them well think they have quite a uphill climb.
Just watched the Alister Heath U tube reading.
Heath is seriously off his trolley.
