This electricity is not for us, we even pay more than further south. The government need to start spreading the load and put wind turbines down motorways, solar panels over car parks where the electricity is most needed.

Recently in Almere, Netherlands, beautiful place, as you travel along the motorway wind turbines as far as the eye can see, on the edges of fields,so it doesn't interfered with the farming. Why can't they do that here? Instead of destroying good farming land, by plonking them inthe middle of the field.

Often things picked up earlier, are easier to treat, and don't always need hospital input. Many surgeries have small theatres in which minor surgeries can be done. Much better to catch earlier, than too late to help anyone. Echo cardiograms, US scans can all be done outside hospital.

Even cataract surgery is done at one of our large surgeries, so no hospital involved.

The country is in a mess and I felt inspired by Keir Starmer's speech outside Number 10.

I think we should get behind him and try to do our bit to help things get better.

I agree with you 100%. A skilled GP can sometimes pick up on problems before the patient is even aware.

I am so excited for this breath of fresh air with a human work ethic. My first female MP for my constituency is raring to go and feels honoured to represent us. That will do for me, a hard working sensible approach to local issues as well as experience in the social care sector. She will be fine .
It is refreshing to see excitement around the cabinet table but there is a long road ahead.

Farage is just like a small dog all bark no bite. He can’t challenge what the government are doing about immigration if he had no plan himself. Hopefully the people who are so passionate about immigration will finally realise over the next few years that immigration wasn’t the problem at all, but the government.

Thank goodness we are starting to calm down as a country.Keir Starmer and his government seem to have done more good things over the weekend than the squabbling Tories did in two years.It is refreshing that the right wing media are not getting leaks about Labour policies in advance.Let them do their jobs as journalists for a change.Keir is a genuine football fan,why should he not fly the flag of St George over 10 Downing Street. Let’s hope the team wins on Wednesday!

What do you suggest?

You'd have to talk to young teachers themselves rather than an old-timer like me. I would start by talking to the people at the "chalk face" rather than trying to impose ideological changes from the top by people who have hardly ever been inside a classroom themselves. I have a pretty good idea why so many are leaving, but that would be second-hand - better to find out from the "horse's mouth".

I also have a pretty good idea why teachers are leaving growstuff, but it would take almost a revolution in the ideology of those at the top to change things. As an ex teacher, I’m not sure it can be done, but I really hope it can. I wouldn’t advise anyone to go into teaching these days.

In fact, delighted to see a range of Ministers selected for their knowledge, experience and expertise in their respective fields.

I have to say, as someone who has not been a Starmer fan, my opinion is changing as a result of his speech, Reeves’ speech, and Starmer’s decisions so far.

Ha ha you mean like Minister for Further Education who fiddled her expenses and even charged for two pornographic films which were apparently for her husband. 🤣

DD2 left after a year because of the workload. She said she wanted evenings and weekends to herself. I asked her about the holidays. After a year without, she said she didn’t miss the long holidays, because they weren’t really that long anyway.
The young teacher who left our place after a couple of years said it was the workload and the straight jacket.
I don’t know what they think now.
We’ve adapted to so many changes, some sensible, some incomprehensible, plus OFSTED and league tables.
If the young ones want something better, I hope it happens.

I have had appointments with consultants on Saturdays, and 2 friends have had major surgery on Sundays. I had a booked scan at 7.30pm one evening.

Yes, this is nothing new and Labour can’t claim credit for it. Much more progress would have been made had it not been for the numerous strikes.

Indeed. Last year under the Conservatives I had a minor op at our regional hospital. doctors, nurses and assistant anaesthetists were brought up from the Portland Clinic in London to help. It was brilliant.

I also know loads of people who have had hip, knee and back surgery in private hospitals on the NHS.

I fully agree M0nica but it is rather impressive to have things properly spelled out, as it shows that thought rather than knee jerk reaction has been applied, doubtless over many months. Of course “events dear boy” will come along and disrupt their plans but at least they have clearly thought out plans for most of the really critical issues, even if we all know it is going to take years to solve the disasters of the recent past.

Using private hospitals for NHS operations goes back to Tony Blair.
