Surely a set up/joke GG13? I can’t imagine Lammy could be so dim. Although he is rather too focused on race for my liking (ditto Lenny Henry).

I’m really pleased about that, he’s very skilled and experienced. I’d be sweating if I was trying to manage NHS waiting lists now, as he knows his onions.

Perhaps at last we will have a government of all the talents, often promised but never achieved. Signs are definitely promising.

It's a wait and see on that appointment for me. One mess up on tweets and the colour of the pope's smoke doesn't rule him out as capable:

Very serious immediate issues on Palestine to deal with which are going got soon emerge, but he's already made several moves to re-connect with EU allies Nato wise to work closely together, which may be crucial if Trump gets in re Ukraine.

I have no doubt if he fails there will be a cabinet shuffle.

That’s the key difference with Starmer’s way of doing things I think, if Lammy or anybody else doesn’t meet their targets or do their job well enough it will be goodbye. The cabinet will be accountable and performance managed, which is a refreshing change - and how it should always have been in my view.

Well, I hope, he will very likely become unstuck before long. I cannot understand how anyone thinks this man will hold his own against world leaders.

I do too, I think the Lib Dem’s would join the debate, not so sure about the Tories - but it would be good to offer, at least.

Ideally indeed it a "yes".

It rather depends on what kind of Tory opposition we have in terms of key areas of NHS policy, I haven't a clear idea atm of what the Tories represent, will take some sorting out time wise I think.

I'm sure that anyone with the good of the country foremost in their mind ought to want to be involved.

And you could say the same for Social Care.

Social Care is linked in with NHS in manifesto, (Wes Streeting and Bridget Phillipson) I would have like to have seen more specifics though.

In fact I believe it might be the only way forward.

The NHS, and social-care, is too important - and the organisation, re-structing, funding, etc, too important an issue to be left as a party-political-football.

He is on record as saying that POTUS Trump is KKK and an out and out racist, this might come back to bite him if Trump is re-elected in November.

He also thinks trans women (men) have can have a cervix…

...hmm, he's a bit of a loose cannon - or maybe more a toy-gun.

As Wyllow3 says, it's wait-and-see.

David Lammy has been in politics a long time and has strong views however as we moved nearer to a possible election he definitely moderated his views. I'm another who thinks we need to give him a chance to settle into the role. He's clearly not stupid, first black Briton to go to Harvard Law school and he was offered a front bench position by Blair but refused it to work as a social justice campaigner. He's another who has had his life changed by education and who understands what it is to be disadvantaged in life which gets a big tick from me as I want a government who creates a more equal society. Saturday Telegraph Money section main article was "How to save your wealth from the Labour landslide"! Don't bother to read it as it was just wild speculation and fear mongering.

The Foreign Secretary before David Cameron was James Cleverly. I honestly don't think David Lammy will be any worse.

I honestly feel a huge sense of relief. It feels like the grown ups are back in charge
