Just that really.

Day 3 - and already so much has been put into motion.

No idle hands here!!

Primrose we can all be very confident that, if anyone in KS’s government puts a foot wrong, they’ll be out immediatelysmile

Unlike Johnson, KS won’t try to manipulate/twist/change the rules to cover any MPs’ misdemeanours.

Can we? Bit of a daft thing to do, appointing her though.
You would think they could find someone to do the job with no dodgy history or baggage behind them.

I will give them time, at the moment we have lots of talk let’s see when the plans materialise…

Their first hurdle will be the loosening of planning regulations for building on green belt, which I and many others are against.

Brown field sites should be first on the planning agenda.

At present brownfield sites are the preferred location for building but so many are very heavily contaminated - so much so that the cost of decontamination produces a negative land value and landowners are unsurprisingly not willing to pay a developer to take their land. This is something a government could address but it would come at great cost.

LizzieDrip Mon 08-Jul-24 09:59:39

Yes WW my understanding is that they’ll look at grey field sites first.

They’ve said there will be a review of the green belt, which has been supported by the head of The Countryside Alliance, who said this is long overdue.

I think this will be one of the battles they will have to face but I will wait and see how they cope over the next months/years before passing judgement.
They have a rocky road ahead of them.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 08-Jul-24 09:56:35

Whitewavemark2 I missed that, will have a look later (enforced resting, dodgy knee, exercise induced)

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 08-Jul-24 09:56:18

I think I commented on the lack of any detail in their manifesto. There was very little and the fact that various cabinet members are going to speak to various people and organisations doesn’t imho constitute a plan beyond a plan to meet those people and organisations. What transpires from talks we shall see.

Grey field sites? Aren’t they to be the first?

Ah, but only 3-4 days ago GSM was declaring that they have no plan.

😂😂😂😂

You cannot please all the people, all the time! Sometimes one cannot please some people at all ever!

It’s time for change, even my late mother, the most dedicated life long Tory, had grown tired of the state of the govt and made it clear she wouldn’t have used her vote, for the first time in her entire life as she couldn’t forgive Johnson and Liz Lettuce for the trail of destruction left behind for her grandchildren!

They’ve had 14 years to plan and weren’t distracted by having to actually do anything. Of course they have planned what they’re going to do.

Honestly GSM. Try and give them some credit!

Well, it is a true statement after all from Germanshepardsmum
They have had lots of time to plan and I expect they feel that voters need to see they’re moving swiftly before the Summer Recess.

Quite! They have had countless time to think about and plan their moves. It would be a “poor old do” (as my late Dad would say) if they started off with nothing much going on.

Cossy Mon 08-Jul-24 09:44:17

I too am impressed, looking forward to RR speech and hope that the momentum continues.

It’s only the first week, let’s give them all a chance and a bit less hand wringing, vitriol and thinking entirely if one’s self.

Having said that, I do understand that it’s a financial worry when retired, whether one has a fortune or a pittance as we have no way to adequately replace any funds “lost” for any reason.

We are stable financially, neither wealthy nor poor and in common will the majority, have worked hard for what we have, as our children are doing now. Most of our children voted Labour or Green and are all looking forward to a somewhat more equitable society.

I hope we ALL prosper, have adequate and timely healthcare and accept we need change.

Primrose53 Mon 08-Jul-24 09:44:03

Jacqui Smith Education Minister!! 🤣🤣

I hope someone in Labour reminds her not to fiddle her expenses again and definitely not include the purchase of pornographic films on her expense sheets.

Ladyleftfieldlover yes that would be a mature, thoughtful thing to do wouldn’t it.

Sadly, I don’t think there’ll be any credit given for anything this Labour government does🤷‍♀️

...erm, whilst not wishing to rain on anyone's parade, they've only just taken up office. Maybe reassess further down the line to see how their strategies are panning out and how they deal with an unexpected crisis if one were to occur.

luluaugust Mon 08-Jul-24 09:39:47

Fascinated to read their planning ideas this morning, I feel vast colonies of dormice and great crested newts are about to be discovered 😂

Certainly, so it would have been surprising if all this hadn’t happened.

but most of it must have been pre planned

Precisely winterwhitesmile

Isn’t it great to have a government that actually pre-plans what it’s going to do👏👏

winterwhite Mon 08-Jul-24 09:23:03

Well yes, but most of it must have been pre planned.

It’s very positive and a refreshing change to see how much is being done only days after the election.
There will be a meeting with the doctors today! At last .
Feeling hopeful.
