Well listening to the radio this evening, I heard that not only is the Triple Lock bad, but also that if older people want to carry on working, they should do it for free and give up their offices etc.

The subject of older people working has been discussed for more years than I care to remember. The main reason given was that older people were blocking places that younger people could take, especially when it came to promotions.

Many people seem to forget that older people like us have paid through our taxes for the healthcare, education and so on, of the younger generation. In the same way that my parents and grandparents generations contributed towards my own and GNers education, healthcare etc etc.

A great many people continue to add to the welfare of the country by volunteering. From what I remember of charity shops when I lived in England they were staffed by the middle aged or elderly with a younger, employed manager.

I keep watching Molly, but there’s a curious absence of any comments on this very important issue from the new government, whilst talking about growth, investment, planning reforms, prisons …

And still nobody mentions the enormous costs of immigrants, legal and illegal, or where that money is to come from.

Watch out for its arrival on the first 100 days.

Where that money is to come from?

Older people, because we are all comfortably settled, have paid off our mortgages and should work for free (vide Moral Maze)
and are happy to pay more in tax (vide GN posts)

Best prepare for a bad financial autumn regardless of party politics then? Although jelly is now £1 a pack, so how much worse can price inflation be? Jelly was 55p not so long ago.

Labour don’t normally give tax cuts here, more the reverse. The other lot aren’t much good at giving them, either. If they do they are generally cutting back on something essential . That’s how it goes, sadly. They do manage to scrape the barrel and give themselves regular pay rises, of course.

Or possibly he decided that if he wasn’t going to win, he might as well go earlier.
As for lies . . .
Conservative lies or Labour lies, Green, LibDem or Reform. I don’t choose which ones are acceptable. I believe none of them.

I didn’t believe a word Sunak was saying during the election campaign anyway.

I always thought he called the election earlier than he needed to because he knew things were going to get worse in the autumn. He took a gamble that the electorate would believe his lies promises in July. The gamble didn’t worksmile

But a lot of this was common knowledge before the election. Quite a number of political commentators had written about this.

It doesn’t say there were never going to be any tax cuts, just not this autumn. What you’ve said is very misleading.

And this is why Labour will need to watch what they say, in private or in public, accidentally or intentionally leaked.
