Gorgeous George has reportedly said he wants Biden to step down … IMO he would make a great candidate… especially after the couple gaffes Biden made at the summit yesterday- ooh so bad…called Zelensky Putin and his Vice President Trump … where is Kamala Harris?

eazybee Fri 12-Jul-24 16:44:50

If Biden were to be elected could he then stand down and hand the Presidency to another Democrat? ? Is this what they are aiming for? Or would there have to be another election?

MayBee70 Fri 12-Jul-24 16:52:52

Just think, if Trump had’ve won last time we would now only have a few more months of him. Having said that he would probably have destroyed democracy in America and created a Trump dynasty ( something that he will attempt to do if he wins this time). He has to be stopped sad

I just looked it up - The first section of the 25th Amendment states that the "removal", death or resignation of the president from office means the vice-president will automatically become president.

Why is Harris so unpopular?

JaneJudge Fri 12-Jul-24 17:15:32

the Washington Job centre grin

this is on par with Monica posting about someone's husband having a gardening addiction

Biden needs to go, I actually think it's unethical

Why is Harris so unpopular?

Is it because she has deliberately been kept out of the picture and not been allowed to "shine"? I don't know, just wondering.

It was a dreadful insult to call President Zelensky by the name of his greatest enemy.

I agree.

How do you know that his wife hasn't urged him to step down. In my experience men can be very stubborn and insist the are perfectly fine.
She can't force him to hand over to someone else.

Yes, AGAA4. Some of us find it impossible just to get our husbands to the GP.

Syracuse - It may be true that Trump is a real danger but nevertheless it’s looking very likely that he is going to be the next president!

Janburry Sat 13-Jul-24 11:43:24

I think there should be an age limit to people standing for election 70 is way to old for a position of such authority, and I’m not being ageist before l get vilified

I can't imagine the US ever being accepting of a woman as POTUS. Sad but (I think) unlikely.

They need to find a way that preserves POTUS Biden’s dignity, but quickly.

I agree with you, 100%. He must go, but with dignity.

Totally agree with your comment...had my SIL nagged more about my younger brother going to see GP about his chest pain which didn't go away, he would likely still be here and not dead at 54 whilst out cycling to keep fit, when he had cardiac arrest and was found too late to save....
IMO 70 would be the cut off but some people at 80 + are remarkable ..am not patronising here but Biden am sorry to say ..past his well by date...and do think he's being delusional...think his wife maybe battling with him to go with dignity...and save the Constitution..

Biden has left it too late to retire with dignity. Time for the men in grey suits to lean on him heavily. Expect a diplomatic illness soon an better candidate being parachuted in.

I'd love Michelle Obama to stand, she'd walk it

There are all sorts of different opinions on why she is unpopular, including racism and sexism amongst others. However I've always understood that the post of Vice President is not considered very important, it's been suggested that they are rarely included in decision making. They are chosen to widen the appeal of the whole "Ticket".
I heard on the radio the other day that many believe that in the unlikely event of Biden winning the chances of him staying in post until the end of his term is also very unlikely. Thus his Vice President would probably have to step in.
I'm simply appalled that Americans will only have the choice of Trump or Biden. The idea of either of them in post is very scary.

I think he could step down with dignity, and hope he does.
As in speech "after consultation and due consideration".

Aveline Sat 13-Jul-24 14:01:54

I do think he's left it too late. Several weeks of high profile gaffes and spirited announcements that he's going nowhere leave him with no dignified way out. However, he has to go.

Rosiebee Sat 13-Jul-24 14:49:47

When Keir Starmer was being asked about Biden, he was trying to be diplomatic by saying "He was on good form". That's the phrase you'd use about an older relative - "Granny was on good form today." All the millions of folk in the USA and the choice comes down to these two elderly men neither of whom you'd trust to make decisions that could affect the whole world, not just their country.

Aveline Sat 13-Jul-24 15:00:32

Putin must be so happy ☹️

Granmarderby10 Sat 13-Jul-24 15:15:40

This is just tragic.
All the court cases and all the lawyers and all the time and money that has been spent in an attempt to slowly but surely unpick that buffoon from the fabric of politics,….

trying to make sure there isn’t a legal loophole left for this repulsive excuse for a human to hide in, and just as they are almost there…it is at risk of being hijacked by Biden himself.
This is so sad but President Biden has nothing to prove now.

As (I think) George Clooney has said Biden can’t fight time and he really really really needs to step aside soon before it’s too late.
To cling on now is displaying immense arrogance. The stakes are too high to dilly dally.

Joseann - Hugh Grant?! 😳 No thanks! Not sure about the PM but I think Martin Lewis should be the Chancellor.

Jess20 Sat 13-Jul-24 16:09:24

Loads of people get words mixed up when we age, means v little about cognitive health - but we're not running a large country 😕

I have to actually escort DP there with many threats.

This is more about Jill Biden simply encouraging Joe to listen to close aides tho. Those top people in his administration.

knspol Sat 13-Jul-24 16:58:40

It seems to me that if the Democrats stand any chance of winning then they have to replace Biden. I find the reports that his wife and family are urging him to continue are unbelievable, surely they would not want him to continue making these howlers and embarrassing himself. He deserves to be remembered for the good he has done as opposed to questions over his mental fitness.
