We've seen TV coverage of the French police watching boats leaving.
I'm not sure how they can stand and let them go, knowing they are hopelessly overcrowded, maybe with small children on board and about to cross a body of water which is busy with large ships, dangerous and rough st times with rips and tides.

*GNHQ REMOVING DELETED MESSAGE*
I'm really surprised at that, *Callistemon'

I didn't like that post, but that was because I think it was unnecessary to reprimand posters about their language, I always have thought that, whoever does it. But there was nothing in your post, IMO, that violated the Gnet guidelines (which I checked earlier this morning).

This debate has run its course. Nobody is going to change their view by the look of it. Once we reach the deleting stage, the thread has had its day. Everyone has to accept that other people have different views.

I agree Maddyone. It is sad though that however politely you lay out your case there are those on here who choose to use foul language or resort to name calling because they know there is nothing more they can say to improve their argument.

They really do not accept that other people have different views as you say so they resort to foul language and calling you names. Please note that those of us who disagree do not stoop to their level and do likewise. 🙂

Err says you, are you now the self appointed thread checker and stopper was there a vote I must have missed it. Threads stop naturally when people stop posting on them thank you, if this is the case this thread will stop but not because you say it has to.

I agree maddyone. The thread has changed from a discussion into an echo chamber. 👋👋👋

Latest statement in response to small boat crossings
Home Office news team, 16 July 2024 - Reactive statements
A Home Office spokesperson said:

"We all want to see an end to dangerous small boat crossings, which are undermining border security and putting lives at risk.

"The new Government is taking steps to boost our border security, setting up a new Border Security Command which will bring together our intelligence and enforcement agencies, equipped with new counter-terror-style powers and hundreds of personnel stationed in the UK and overseas, to smash the criminal smuggling gangs making millions in profit.”

No update today on the new arrivals as yet, or are they trying to keep it secret

I was surprised by that Callistemon.
Debates get polarised very quickly

So easy to bandy the word racist around. I have never met anyone who is racist, most folks are tolerant and kindly.

Most people are now well aware that the term”racist” is used to shut down discussion. Just feel sorry for people who do this and ignore them.

I agree unnecessary language but it is important to realise his relatively middle ground status, when they say "Chief Immigration Officer" you think "the boss".

By the way, this is the previously posted video of Saunders a few pages back - he doesn't allude to Starmer in it.

That’s your take on it. His title was Chief Immigration Officer and that is what he was! If people think that means “the boss” then that’s their fault.

That doesn’t excuse anybody from calling him foul names.

Richard Tice doesn’t impress me in any way.

No surprises there then. Although I think I saw on another thread Angela Rayner 😕

It's not up to me to sort out immigration, way above my pay grade, that's what we have politicians for and what a mess they have made of our country. Blair when he opened the floodgates, then Cameron who said he was going to get it down to 10s of thousands, then Johnson, Sunak although I think he at least did have a plan, now soft touch Starmer and the highly overrated Cooper.

EDITED BY GNHQ AS IT CONTAINED DELETED POST
Unfortunately, it's not just his statements. It's the fact that he's wheeled out as some kind of expert when he has never been anything of the sort. He was a middle ranking civil servant, who is at least 8 years out of touch.

*EDITED BY GNHQ AS IT CONTAINED DELETED POST*
As has been pointed out time and time again, legal immigrants far outnumber any so-called illegal immigrants. You seem to brush under the carpet the fact that the country needs those people. For a start, many of them are students, who bring into the country some £18 billion and spend even more money in the economy. If the argument about shortage of resources is to hold water, you need to think of some other way of replacing that income and finding ways of replacing the work they do.

I've met plenty of people who are racist. Some of them probably even consider themselves tolerant and kindly - maybe some of them are to their "own".
